Hello, i don't know if this is the appropiate place for asking it, but in ] we have had a problem of POW that has been solved, reaching a consensus. Unluckily one anonymous user who has never had the intention of reaching any consensus or to show their POW is vandalising the article. Could you please semi-protect the page so only the registered users can edit it? The vandal is only one person and anonymous, so it's probablby enough with a semi-protection. If you accuse me again of violatiing ] you are pushing too hard! You know the anon keeps vandalising the article even if a consensus was reached. On your part you are not doing anything to prevent it. The anon has edited many more times than me and another bunch of users is also reverting the vandal anon. Why am I the only warned by you? '''Is this a personal fixation against me'''? Watch yourself Toddst1... I'm thinking about opening at ] an Appeal to the Arbitration Committee against you. Are you going to block me again for asking them for help? Or will you prevent the article to be vandalize? Hi. Thank you for removal of personal attacks from the article. Now it is much better. But I feel that some problems remain.
* The article disparages its subject (now the scientific conception and its author), so it is still an attack article. So, formally, it is still subject to ''speedy'' deletion.
* Phrases like "This principle is claimed to supersede Heisenberg's Uncertainty principle. It does not.", "it is not very deep, it is a fairly trivial manipulation.", "Up to this point, the derivation is kosher; the controversy arises when Arbatsky suggests that this last form is a replacement for, or is somehow "better than" Heisenberg's uncertainty principle." are unacceptable in an encyclopedia article. (All negative phrases must be removed.)
* Phrases containing the word "I" must be removed also. They prevent other users from constructive work on the article.
* Linas ] suggestions to improve the contents of the article. Currently, I do not want to do it myself. It should be clear, that ''now'' it is not a "battle" for scientific merits of the article. It is a question of general administrative policy here. So, I would ask you to remove those phrases.
Possibly, Linas is not interested in that article at all. (?) So, you should also take into account that:
* The article was created 3 years ago, and minor changes were made later.
* Currently, the article works as search engine spam; in fact, it is not devoted to the topic claimed in the title.
* Article breaks ] and ]. All valuable and verifiable information must be transfered to regular articles, all other information must be removed.
Thank you. ] (]) 17:18, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

:::That's why we have ]. There's a similar problem going on with a bunch of catalan-related articles as well. We need to establish what the IP range that the editor(s) are using and weigh blocking that range that against the problems they are causing. Usually we need folks like yourself who are familiar with the articles, history and IP's behavior to document a case. The problem with things like this is if the non-ip editors don't respond in a constructive manner, they often end up running into problems and frequently find themselves blocked. == Reliable sources ==

What's the current thinking on onthisday.com ? It seems obvious to me that it's a mirror site, but it's been allowed as an external link on many pages. ] (]) 16:04, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
:I just replied to your query on RSN. Yeah, totally a mirror site. Yes, its use is rampant. ::I think the main sign of "decline of this project" are over the top strict admins, who do not allow any futher improvements of it by undo and accusations of other users in edit war, instead of helping and finding compromises.

Perhaps you meant it with a sense of humor, as tone can be hard to read and often gets lost in writing, especially on the internet, but unless I'm drastically misinterpreting something, may I please ask that you rethink how you speak to others? == What in the world? ==

Hello, previously I've noticed you reverting my edits and threatning me with blocking...
However, you did not provided any further suggestions or actions.
You see, I've tried to avoid citating onthisday.com, but after seeing numerous usage of it on other articles, including DOYs, I've started to use it too, and weren't reverted by anyone untill a few days ago. I want a clarification, why onthisday.com is considered as unreliable source, meanwhile it's not in the list of such, and why is there so much of citation of it?
Also, regarding that same 4th of February page, why Niagara falls ice bridge disaster isn't allowed to be in the list, while it is mentioned on ] page? Once again, I saw so much similiar cases, (when some event is too small to have it's own article, but still meantioned in other)

But my real question is, if there are rules about that not being allowed, why there are so much violations of it in, and nobody's fixing?
And why only recent edits get reverted without previous (I literally reffered to onthisday.com on the same page more than twice, but you haven't removed those edits)

Anyway, while I'm awaiting for you response, I want to say, that from now on, thanks to you and other of "your type", since I only get revertions and warnings for trying to do something, I will never ever make any further contributions on Misplaced Pages, except undo the ones I see breaking the rules. Just like @] does, if that's the way you guys do things around here.
But unlike you, I will undo all incorrect edits, not only the recent ones, and we will see what the articles will become. — Preceding ] comment added by ] (] • ]) 14:26, 7 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi @], I wanted to follow up on your message on my talk page. Carol Leonning bio needs updating, very old info often used and incorrect -- for example she has won four Pulitzer Prize Awards -- see her Washington Post Bio for more accurate information: https://www.washingtonpost.com/people/carol-d-leonnig/ I am not able to update myself because I am her sister-in-law and have a conflict and I am not very skilled at wiki editing, but want to help because it the information on it is so incorrect. :While I was a primary contributor to her bio, that was done during a time when I had much more time available for wiki editing. I'm far, far less active these days. However, if I find myself with some time to dig in to it, I'll see what I can do.

* Following ], ] was adopted as a ].
I find it frustrating that you apparently acted by auto-pilot and issued editwar warnings to both me and User:jægermester. Firstly the editwar on ] had ended because he finally had provided quotes for some of the possibly defamatory material he was inserting and he had agreed to remove the ethnic slurs. I had done three reverts to the consensus version and after that I stopped reverting and sought help to enforce consensus from administrators. At One Ani Page I was told to go to the other where I was finally warned and the non-consensus version stayed in place. This is frustrating. Secondly I think you should have looked into the situation and seen that one version was determined by consensus by 6 editors on the talk page and another (Jægermesters) was unilaterally being pushed - you could also have lookd at Jægermester's edit history and seen that his only edits since he registered a couple of days ago have been ichanging the same politically sensistive terminology to something he likes more. In short I feel that your warnings were not a helpful remedy for the situation and I encourage you to look a little deeper into edit disputes before you take action in the future.] 12:55, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

I appreciate that ANI may have been the wrong forum but where should I have reported it at the Edit 3RRR notice board? When? Before or after reverting his edits? If I did it before then it wasn't an edit war and if I do it after then I was editwarring too. Notice that before i posted at ANI part of the issue was repetitive insertion of unsourced possibly defamatory material including inappropriate ethnic denominations in a living personj biography. This was why I found it to be a matter of urgency. He only suddenly introduced sourced and started discussing after I posted on ANI. Reliable sources

What's the current thinking on onthisday.com ? It seems obvious to me that it's a mirror site, but it's been allowed as an external link on many pages. Deb (talk) 16:04, 5 February 2024 (UTC)

I just replied to your query on RSN. Yeah, totally a mirror site. Yes, its use is rampant. It's amazing how many folks will argue that onthisday or similar pages published by AP are reliable sources. It's just another sign of the decline of this project. Toddst1 (talk) 05:16, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
I think the main sign of "decline of this project" are over the top strict admins, who do not allow any futher improvements of it by undo and accusations of other users in edit war, instead of helping and finding compromises.
@Toddst1 Do you happen to know anyone like that by a chance? Gigman (talk) 13:56, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
We don't compromise on the reliability of sources. You just proved my point. BTW, I'm not an admin. Go away now. Toddst1 (talk) 23:25, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
I just happened to randomly stumble upon this page. I have no idea who any of you in this conversation are, nor what any relevant background may be, but I just wanted to say that saying something like "Go away now" is so extremely beyond the level of civility that should be expected by any serious wikipedia editor. Perhaps you meant it with a sense of humor, as tone can be hard to read and often gets lost in writing, especially on the internet, but unless I'm drastically misinterpreting something, may I please ask that you rethink how you speak to others? How would you feel if spoken to that way? Please read Misplaced Pages:Civility. Vontheri (talk) 06:49, 2 April 2024 (UTC)

What in the world?

Hello, previously I've noticed you reverting my edits and threatning me with blocking... However, you did not provided any further suggestions or actions. You see, I've tried to avoid citating onthisday.com, but after seeing numerous usage of it on other articles, including DOYs, I've started to use it too, and weren't reverted by anyone untill a few days ago. I want a clarification, why onthisday.com is considered as unreliable source, meanwhile it's not in the list of such, and why is there so much of citation of it? Also, regarding that same 4th of February page, why Niagara falls ice bridge disaster isn't allowed to be in the list, while it is mentioned on Niagara Falls page?

Just like @Kiwipete does, if that's the way you guys do things around here. But unlike you, I will undo all incorrect edits, not only the recent ones, and we will see what the articles will become. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Glebushko0703 (talkcontribs) 14:26, 7 February 2024 (UTC)

Re: Source is not reliable

Hi @Toddst1, I wanted to follow up on your message on my talk page. As I, now, understand it, my Instagram Reel source to the claim that Tessa Violet was born on March 20,1990 violated the no original research doctrine, due to infering the year via the date of publication minus the age stated in the video. After doing some more research the topic, I have discovered that on Tessa Violet's genius profile, which has been verified as her, states that she was born on March 20,1990. Would this count as a reliable source on this matter or do I need to continue to research for a more reliable source?

Seems reliable enough to me. See WP:DOB. Toddst1 (talk) 18:15, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
@Madalyn the Rose:When I looked at it, I thought it was a social media page. Apparently it's somewhere between that and WP:USERG which is not ok. Toddst1 (talk) 04:26, 23 March 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello Toddst1,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Reminders:

Check this out! Deb (talk) 11:04, 8 July 2024 (UTC)

Yep. Editor doesn't want to hear anything . Toddst1 (talk) 23:12, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
I certainly do not want to hear anything from editors who pretend that me pasting info in a (largely unreferenced) list from an article where I already referenced that exact info (and every single other fact), as much as they may dislike it, is not at all the same as "adding unreferenced info". Especially if they go on suggesting that I should be intimidated off wikipedia or blocked for not serving their commands. I hope this clarifies it. Feel free to erase this comment, as I did with your comment, but hear this: never bother me on my talk page again. Dahn (talk) 23:23, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
WP:ANI is <- that way. Toddst1 (talk) 23:28, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
And you thought you had a block log! Deb (talk) 17:10, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
Deb, I'm not sure what full scope of the malfunction is there, but WP:SOMTP captures some of it. Toddst1 (talk) 23:54, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
Too right. WP:POINT also applies, except he thinks that adding a cn template is going to annoy us. (LOL) Deb (talk) 07:18, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

Carol Leonning wiki page needs updating, can you help?

Carol Leonning bio needs updating, very old info often used and incorrect -- for example she has won four Pulitzer Prize Awards -- see her Washington Post Bio for more accurate information: https://www.washingtonpost.com/people/carol-d-leonnig/ I am not able to update myself because I am her sister-in-law and have a conflict and I am not very skilled at wiki editing, but want to help because it the information on it is so incorrect. She is often called upon to do TV and radio interviews and they use this information and make incorrect introductions of her. Also, the photo on this site is so old; it would be better to use the official photojournalist photo from her Washington Post (online). Thank you if you are able to help make this site more accurate. MHKelley (talk) 16:34, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

Hi @MHKelley: you have a very talented and accomplished sister-in-law. And thanks for declaring your relationship and being aware of our WP:COI policies. BTW,she has only 2 "n"s in her last name: Carol Leonnig.
I'm not seeing anywhere that the Post's photo of Carol is in the public domain, so we can't use it. However, if you have a photo you took that you'd like to make available for use, we could use that.
While I was a primary contributor to her bio, that was done during a time when I had much more time available for wiki editing. I'm far, far less active these days. However, if I find myself with some time to dig in to it, I'll see what I can do.
I see you've left a note on the article's talkpage which is a great start. If you wanted to suggest any specific edits on that page, that would be a great idea. Toddst1 (talk) 19:07, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
Thank you! I have followed up with Carol to ask about a photo that she has permission to share or if the Washington Post photo is in the public domain. (Funny that I got her last name wrong, she has been my sister-in-law for more than 20 years and named one of her daughters after me so I should get it right!) I will try to leave specific edit ideas on the article's talkpage. I wasn't sure if that was appropriate but since you suggested it then it must be OK -- so I will take time to do that. Thank you so much for your help, I sincerely appreciate it. I hope to learn more and become better at Wiki editing. I used to be a journalist myself. I worked mostly in television news so I'm not the strongest when it comes to print writing/editing. I very much appreciate Misplaced Pages and its commitment to accuracy. Thank you for your contributions. MHKelley (talk) 15:52, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
@MHKelley: That's great and leaving polite suggestions with a disclaimer that you are related is the way to handle stuff like this. A lot of folks try to use wikipedia as a vehicle to puff their image or spin perception, so a lot of editors can be sensitive, but as long as the material you suggest follows WP:NPOV we should be fine. Feel free to email me directly by clicking the link in the column to the left if you want specific help or if folks aren't receptive on the talk page. I'll see what I can do. Cheers! Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team
