Hello Jpbowen. I am Diannaa and I am a Misplaced Pages administrator. While normally it's okay to copy from one Misplaced Pages article to another (as long as proper attribution is provided), it's not okay to paste content from a deleted article into an extant article. That's because the attribution has been lost - the list of contributors in the article history is a record of everyone who contributed to the article, and we need that list to fulfill the "attribution" part of our Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License. Sorry but I have had to remove your addition to ] for that reason. — ] (]) 01:12, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi @], wondered if you could give your wiki thoughts on this draft: ]. I work for the Uni so I have a COI, but the Department was just launched to replace the old departments of Zoology and Plant Sciences, so I have taken content from there and been as objective as possible when creating the page. ] (]) 16:11, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
:] the issue seems to be that the department is so new that there are no adequate independent references yet. Has the opening of the department been covered in newspapers, magazines or journals? These would help. otherwise, it would be best to include information on the new department under sections in the pages on the two old departments until the new department has sufficient independent coverage. I hope this helps. ] (]) 19:13, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

This is Hamid Arabnia. Someone from Texas created a wiki biography of me (in Jan. 2009). The page was probably created with good intentions (although that person had included his own publications, photos, ... as references!). Since the text suffered from many errors, I decided to revise it (I also mentioned "in the history" that I, hamid arabnia, is changing the content of the page.) The page is correctly tagged with the message "It may have been edited by a person who has a conflict of interest with the subject matter." The page started receiving vandalism, ... Someone undid the vandalism and emptied the page. The page is also tagged with "The notability of this article's subject is in question. If notability cannot be established, it may be listed for deletion or removed. Tagged since June 2009." I noticed that you recently cleaned up the page and that is why I am sending this request to you. Can you please delete the page? I would be most grateful. I do not think I am notable. Many renowned scholars and scientists/professors in my area of specialty (who have been my mentors) do not yet have wiki pages. <small><span class="autosigned">—Preceding ] comment added by ] (] • ]) 15:25, 24 October 2009 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

:As an editor of the ] and an active research professor (I checked your home page) I believe you are eligible for a Misplaced Pages page. Just because others who deserve a Misplaced Pages page do not yet has no real relevance. I guess there are two options. I can add evidence of notability if you wish - this is what is lacking at the moment. Or you can try requesting deletion on the page. This is controlled by Misplaced Pages administrators and I am not an administrator I am afraid. I guess I will have to post a message on the 'discussion" tab of that page (requesting deletion). I hope an administrator would get to see my request on that page. :Because close paraphrasing is sometimes hard to catch yourself doing, please view the of this edit by our CopyPatrol system. If you connect your account to it, you should be able to view something called an "iThenticate" report. This highlights all the shared words that the computer spotted. It's not always very smart (it sometimes flags proper nouns and lists of names) but in this case, large amounts of the underlying sentence structure, the author's comparasions and links they made between facts, and original vocabulary remained intact.
:: Hamid, see ] for information on the Misplaced Pages deletion procedure. There has to be a vote, etc. Good luck! Your submission at Articles for creation: Nakheel Properties (September 23)
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Salimfadhley was: This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Misplaced Pages article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of organizations and companies). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Misplaced Pages. The comment the reviewer left was: It's possible that given the size of this company it does meet our notability guidelines, however the sources on this draft are of insufficient quality. If you can help improve the sourcing I would be happy to reconsider this draft. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved.- If you would like to continue working on the submission, go to Draft:Nakheel Properties and click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the window.
- If you now believe the draft cannot meet Misplaced Pages's standards or do not wish to progress it further, you may request deletion. Please go to Draft:Nakheel Properties, click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the window, add "{{Db-g7}}" at the top of the draft text and click the blue "publish changes" button to save this edit.
- If you do not make any further changes to your draft, in 6 months, it will be considered abandoned and may be deleted.

Question
One question, are art galleries and art centers considered museums? Well I recently did an article about an art center in Al Ain. I used the museum infobox for the article, since other articles about art centers on Misplaced Pages use this infobox, an example are the articles on Arlington Arts Center and Woodruff Arts Center. Bkissin who accepted my draft placed the Wikiproject Museums banner on the talk page and placed the "Museums in the United Arab Emirates" category. I plan to do an article on the Nairobi Gallery in Kenya, and I wonder if I should place the museums infobox for that article.-Seb { 💬 Talk + 📝 Edits } 00:29, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- A museum is normally distinguished by a permanent collection of objects. The AlQattara Arts Centre apparently has "a small museum in which archaeological artifacts are stored", so would seem to qualify. —Jonathan Bowen (talk) 14:43, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Jpbowen: By the way, I found an image on Flickr that has a license compatible with Misplaced Pages, should I place this image in the article Al Qattara Arts Centre?-Seb { 💬 Talk + 📝 Edits } 21:30, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- That should be fine if you follow all the "rules"! —Jonathan Bowen (talk) 21:39, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Jpbowen: Thank you very much for adding categories to the Al Qattara Arts Center article, could you do the same for the Skifa Kahla article? Skifa Kahla is a fortification in Mahdia, Tunisia. In the Al Qattara Arts Center article I added two sources in Arabic, they explain a little about the construction of the Al Qattara fort, its construction dates back to the Iron Age.-Seb { 💬 Talk + 📝 Edits } 17:11, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
- I added categories and did some tidying. —Jonathan Bowen (talk) 18:21, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
IGI Global
You appear to have a close connection to the subject on Misplaced Pages that raises concerns about a conflict of interest. In keeping with Misplaced Pages's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged.Anyone with a conflict of interest must avoid or exercise great caution when:
- editing articles related to you, your family or colleagues, your organization or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with,
- participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors,
- linking to the Misplaced Pages article or website of your organization in other articles (see Misplaced Pages:Spam);
- and you must always:
- avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.
Note that you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Misplaced Pages:Paid-contribution disclosure. Even if you are not being paid, you are expected to disclose any close connection with the subject of the article, using the connected contributor template.
For more details about what constitutes a conflict of interest, please see Misplaced Pages:Conflict of Interest. Thank you.Deb (talk) 16:11, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
- For information, I have published with IGI Global in the past, but not since 2011, ten years ago. I am unlikely to again with the controversy around the company. I have never been paid by IGI Global and I have never paid them any money (e.g. for publication). I do not know anyone in the company and I have not contacted them since 2011. In my recent edits of Draft:IGI Global, I have added a "Controversy" section with references, that I believe makes the company "notable" in Misplaced Pages terms. In the past, some Misplaced Pages editors have been actively hostile to the company, accusing it of being a "vanity publishing" company and using this as a reason for it to be removed from Misplaced Pages. However, given that I have never paid any money to the company, this is not my experience. In any case, this is orthogonal to arguments for or against whether it should be on Misplaced Pages. In fact, I believe the number of independent references generated by the controversy means that it should be on Misplaced Pages. And I believe that the fact that I have not been in contact with the company for ten years means that I am sufficiently independent for there not to be any serious WP:COI. —Jonathan Bowen (talk) 12:47, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: IGI Global (November 28)
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Mhawk10 was: This submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources. Please rewrite your submission in a more encyclopedic format. Please make sure to avoid peacock terms that promote the subject. The comment the reviewer left was: The "controversy" section reads as if it were written by IGI Global's PR team as a way to pre-empt serious critique rather than if it were written by a neutral observer. There are very good journal articles about this; cite those and write a good section that actually handles the serious criticisms of the business, such as that available at the link provided by Bonadea. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved.- If you would like to continue working on the submission, go to Draft:IGI Global and click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the window.

Hi, I noticed you did some editing at Exhibition catalogue (thank you!). Virtual Library museums pages and deleted article Virtual Museum of Computing
Sorry but I have had to remove your addition to Virtual Library museums pages for that reason. — Diannaa (talk) 01:12, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

Dept of Biology
Hi @Jpbowen, wondered if you could give your wiki thoughts on this draft: Draft:Department of Biology, University of Oxford. I work for the Uni so I have a COI, but the Department was just launched to replace the old departments of Zoology and Plant Sciences, so I have taken content from there and been as objective as possible when creating the page. 48jkb35m (talk) 16:11, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
- @48jkb35m the issue seems to be that the department is so new that there are no adequate independent references yet. Has the opening of the department been covered in newspapers, magazines or journals? These would help. otherwise, it would be best to include information on the new department under sections in the pages on the two old departments until the new department has sufficient independent coverage. I hope this helps. 86.187.225.140 (talk) 19:13, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

Greetings!
Hi there Prof. Bowen. I came across a bunch of documents with your name on them, outlining microprocessors, their pinouts, and instructions sets -- all formatted neatly in ASCII and with scripts to create PostScript and PDF outputs. These have come in handy many times over the last few years as I work with some vintage equipment, and when I found out who you actually were I had to stop by and say hello, and thanks for your excellent work from circa 1985!
Cheers, MrAureliusRTalk! 18:45, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

Portrait of Count Stanislas Potocki by David
Hello Jonathan! I saw that you have made some really valuable contributions to WP Visual Arts and I am looking for editors interested in collaborating on Portrait of Count Stanislas Potocki, a painting by Jacques-Louis David from 1781. The article has been mostly abandoned for the last two years and I would love to bring it to GA or FA level, though due to academic writing commitments, I might be unable to do it on my own any time soon. And feel free to recommend someone else if this is not something you would be interested in participating. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Many thanks. Your contributed article, University don
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, University don. First, thank you for your contribution; Misplaced Pages relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Don (academia). Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Misplaced Pages. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Don (academia). If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.
If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Misplaced Pages looks forward to your future contributions. -- NotCharizard 13:19, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: IGI Global (November 1)
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Devonian Wombat was: This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Misplaced Pages's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Misplaced Pages, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies. The comment the reviewer left was: Concerns raised in the deletion discussion that this article does not represent the widespread viewpoint that IGI engages in "vampire press" practices do not appear to be addressed. Indeed the "controversies" section goes out of its way to discredit this mainstream viewpoint and push a minority POV. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.- If you would like to continue working on the submission, go to Draft:IGI Global and click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the window.
- If you do not edit your draft in the next 6 months, it will be considered abandoned and may be deleted.
- If you need any assistance, or have experienced any untoward behavior associated with this submission, you can ask for help at the Articles for creation help desk, on the reviewer's talk page or use Misplaced Pages's real-time chat help from experienced editors.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Applied Science University, Bahrain.jpeg
Thank you for uploading File:Applied Science University, Bahrain.jpeg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Misplaced Pages may not meet the criteria required by Misplaced Pages:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Misplaced Pages:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Proposed deletion of European Academy of Optometry and Optics
The article European Academy of Optometry and Optics has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
No secondary sources to demonstrate notability per WP:NORG
While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. AusLondonder (talk) 21:23, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

Avoiding links to dab pages
Hallo, I noticed that in creating Oxford Women Students' Society for Women's Suffrage you linked to the dab page Hyde Park. I've fixed the link. But here's a standard message I offer:
- There is an easy way to avoid linking to disambiguation pages: if you go to "Preferences", "Gadgets", and look under "Appearance" you'll see "Display links to disambiguation pages in orange" towards the bottom of the section. Select that tickbox, and whenever you Preview a page you'll be able to see whether you've accidentally linked to a disambiguation page. Thanks, and Happy Editing.
(I came to the page because it links to a page I created so I got a notification, then spotted the orange link!) PamD 19:24, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the tip, I have followed your advice! —Jonathan Bowen (talk) 10:29, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- Glad to be of use. I find it a really helpful way to get things right (or less wrong). PamD 11:00, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
August 2024
Your addition to Oxford Society for Women's Suffrage has been removed or altered, as it appears to closely paraphrase a copyrighted source. Limited close paraphrasing or quotation is appropriate within reason, so long as the material is clearly attributed in the text. However, longer paraphrases, especially if they are not attributed to their source, may constitute copyright violation or plagiarism, and are not acceptable on Misplaced Pages. Such content cannot be hosted here for legal reasons; please do not post it on any page, even if you plan to fix it later. You may use external websites or printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If you own the copyright to the text, and you want to allow Misplaced Pages to use it — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Misplaced Pages:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the copyright but have permission from that owner, see Misplaced Pages:Requesting copyright permission. Misplaced Pages takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 20:03, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- Because close paraphrasing is sometimes hard to catch yourself doing, please view the automated flagging of this edit by our CopyPatrol system.
- I've also had a look at one of your recently created articles, Gunfield. I haven't examined it thoroughly, but I am already seeing some similarities that are making me concerned. For example,
- The article:
In the 1930s, a low single-storey service space and garage with a rectangular gazebo roof was added to the front of the former chapel (later a music room), and the existing chapel window was reconfigured
- The source:

- The article:
A link to the chapel was added in 1915 by Arthur Hamilton Moberly. A three-storey loggia onto the rear garden was also built by Moberly at the same time.

- I know this isn't a pleasant message to receive, but would you consider voluntarily giving up your autopatrolled rights at Misplaced Pages:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled or by asking an administrator directly? I can ping one for you, if you'd like. I believe your new creations would strongly benefit review by the new page patrollers, so they can help prevent this issue from re-occuring. It won't have any impact on you or the way you create articles- it just allows for a second pair of eyes to ensure that Misplaced Pages can comply with its non free content policies.

- Thank you for spotting this. I am normally more careful with paraphrasing, but I think I hit the save button too early for these cases. I see that you have edited Oxford Society for Women's Suffrage. I have now edited Gunfield, based on your comments above. Let me know if you spot any more issues. I will be more careful in future! —Jonathan Bowen (talk) 15:11, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah, tell me about it- it's one of those things I think a lot of people fall prone to! And thank you for fixing the Gunfield article- I'm going to have a more in-depth look at it this weekend, but don't let me stop you from double-checking it yourself!
- That being said, recent cases of close paraphrasing issues does disqualify anybody from either holding or receiving the autopatrolled right. I've opened a thread on ANI asking for somebody to pull it. It's not a sanction, and, again, will have no impact on the way you create articles. It'll just send them through the New Pages queue for others to look at. GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 22:01, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
