I am '''Philip L. Welch''', senior at ] double-majoring in ] and ] and planning to graduate in December of 2006. My was on ], ].

I haven't been as active of late as I have been. Part of that has been impatience with others brought on by stress, and for that I apologize. Another part has been the conscious decision to refocus my efforts on Misplaced Pages. Simply put, a lot of Wikipedians have lost their priorities. The purpose here is to build an encyclopedia and fill it with information about important academic subjects. While it's true that contemporary popular culture is a more important subject than some people may think, Misplaced Pages is significantly lacking in other areas. It is these areas we must approach.

Put simply, I take Misplaced Pages very, very seriously, and that affects my beliefs and decisions about it. Some may recall Kelly Martin's request for bureaucratship, where I reluctantly voted to oppose because she was already an arbitrator—the rationale being that separation of powers is vital to preserve the internal Misplaced Pages structures from being dominated by external groups who are hostile to our mission. Some people considered my idea paranoid—I consider their opposition myopic.

In stark terms, Misplaced Pages is one of the single most important undertakings in human history. If we do our job, future generations will look upon Misplaced Pages as the cornerstone of the information revolution. If we don't, the world will lose a tremendous resource.

And that is why I'm here.

===Addendum===

Yes, I do take Misplaced Pages that seriously.

But you can't live with such solemnity. Not on a regular basis. We're a lot more productive when we're having fun, which is why I refuse to take myself so seriously. This userpage has been home to bad jokes, as have many talk pages I have seen, and this is a good thing.

Gratuitous pirate joke:
Q. What happened when the sea pirates came to Misplaced Pages?
A. We sent them to ]rrrrrrrrrrrrr.
