:How is Chinese economic reform and Great Divergence in my editing restriction? GPM has edited it exactly twice in the past month and hasn't commented there in weeks. This is an obvious case of trip-up. First the above user invites me to comment on ANI and then blocks and topic bans me for putting an issue on ANI (this alone is extremely outrageous) Then he blocks me for <b>3 weeks</b> for the "crime" of editing an article that GPM edited 3-5 weeks ago. I saw Gun Powder Ma's {{diff|Chinese economic reform|prev|379080801|recent tag}} on ] as it happened, and seeing that it was dubious (from what I read about the Chinese Civil War), looked to the Loren 4 source to find the unsourced fact and indeed it was there. When I went to cite it, though, you had {{diff|Chinese economic reform|next|379080801|already done it}} with an aggrieved edit summary. Your assessment that it was a provocation was probably correct, though you are not flattered in the {{diff|Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents|prev|379086762|new ANI complaint}} for which GPM used that edit. My suggestion would be to not be so quick to take the bait, when uninvolved editors can easily fix it. If you had waited five minutes there, you would probably look much better (and GPM worse) to uninvolved judges. ] (]) 19:27, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

==Would you like to be a featured editor in the next ] newsletter?==
I was hoping to interview at least two editors for the next Article Rescue Squadron newsletter.

--------------------------------------
Here is the interview from our first issue to give you an idea of what it is like:

I am failing the GA nomination of the article ].
After the incredible and inspiring result of ], and all the work you put into it, would you be interested in being interviewed?

Reasons:
I could e-mail you the questions, or we could make a special page on wiki for the questions. ] 23:35, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

1) Article is unstable with too many changes made every couple of days for 8+ weeks.

2) Edit wars about this article over the past 30 day involving multiple parties.
It seems that the history of the page is split in two places, that above (which you've just changed to a redirect) and ]. I'd recommend asking an admin to merge the page histories. That way, when the article is eventually moved back into main space the history shouldn't be too jumbled. I'd do it myself, but I've not merged page histories before and now isn't the time to start experimenting. ] (]) 16:34, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
3) Person who nominated the article was banned for 3 weeks because of comments pertaining to the nominated article. (Whoever nominated the article should be present to at least answer 1 question from me, this is not a Misplaced Pages rule, it is my own. The previous 2 points above are Misplaced Pages rules and warrant failure of the article)
:Teen, you could do this yourself. ] 19:02, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
::] require admin tools (unless by "do this yourself", you mean ask rather than perform the history merge). ] (]) 20:52, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
:::Note, I deliberately did not move the article history because the point was to start a new article from scratch. Unfortunately, some people decided to ignore the suggestion and start from an already tainted position. ] '']'' 20:53, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

Please restart the GA nomination process when either a consensus is reached or the article becomes stable.

==Unblock request==
{{unblock reviewed|1=<b>Explanation:</b> I was blocked for "violating" an interaction ban put in place for an early release to a 48 hour block that the community had deemed ineffective, and even the blocking admin stated that the restriction should have been modified. . Prior to my block, I was under the impression that community discussion had overturned the sanctions; I was not given as much as a warning. In addition, even assuming that the block was correct, a three-week block for violating a restriction put in lieu of a 48 hour block is completely disproportionate and a great example of WP:GAME (the "punishment" block being ten times the length of the original block); at most, I should serve twice my original block, which I have already. For these two reasons I believe the block should be reduced or eliminated altogether. In addition, I question the actions of the the blocking admin, user:Toddst1. He has been completely one sided considering that he had completely ignored massive bouts of personal attacks and harassment from the editor I "harassed" (although I had performed no personal attacks but was restricted for posting on ANI) . even when I brought it to his attention on his talk page. He <b>advised</b> me to go to ANI . The most outrageous part is when he blocked me for <b>following his advice</b> and imposed the sanctions on me which lead to this block in the first place (I also ask for a review of my initial block and resulting sanctions which I also felt to be illegitimate, as they were imposed for going on ANI).] (]) 23:10, 21 August 2010 (UTC)|decline=] indicates that the community considers your editing with respect to China to be very problematic. == ''On Military History of China'' == == ''The Signpost'': 30 August 2010 ==
:Hi Teeinvestor,
:I'm here to ask for more information on the stirrup. You sourced Griffith when you claimed that the stirrup was invented during the Warring States and revolutionized warfare. However, according to my sources the stirrup was only invented during the Eastern Han, and that was still just something you use to get onto a horse, not something you use to ride it. Thus I don't believe that it's important enough to start a "military revolution". However, the stirrup during the Age of Fragmentation is similar to modern stirrups, and some say that this helped introduce heavy cavalry into China. Of course, I don't know what Griffith actually said so some info on this would be welcome.
:I would also like to point out how the article paints the Qing dynasty as a dynasty that had no military advancements whatsoever, and the Ming is this progressive dynasty that was bound to be technologically savvy. Although true to a degree, I would like to point out that the exact same condition is true for late Ming as well. For most sources, should the Ming have continued, it would only mirror the fate of the Qing dynasty. I would like to point out this source. http://www.oslo2000.uio.no/program/papers/m1b/m1b-dicosmo.pdf
It shows how the Qing tried to improve gunpowder weapons as well, though it inevitably lagged behind.
:Last but not least, I question the validity of the "Equipment Section", as it generalizes the Chinese army into one similar to those of the Song dynasty. However, each dynasty (or even periods within dynasties) can contain vastly different armies that simply cannot be generalized as such. For example, the "cavalry" section certainly isn't true for the Han dynasty while the Infantry section isn't true for the Warring States. In fact, the part about having weapons that could "cut through" any other weapon simply isn't technologically possible for any dynasty. The only weapon that fits the definition would be lightsabers. Any weapon, no matter how sharp or sturdy, usually cannot just "cut through" any weapon of worth.
] (]) 12:16, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
::Yet the sentence right after the quote you gave said the entire thing was "speculative". Anyway, my intention isn't to erase the fact that gunpowder technology lagged during the Qing. I just want to note that the trend already started to happen during the late Ming. I'm hoping to flesh out the article a little bit. The article seems to make some sweeping generalizations on the Equipments section. In the future I'm hoping to resolve this by putting the army makeup into the dynastic sections instead. There are also some places where there are examples labeled without sources or used suspiciously (for example, I doubt the Sun Tzu's Art of War would talk about the Tang dynasty), in which I hope you could help me with (considering the Li/Zheng source is in Chinese while it's hard for me to improve a statement that never stated its source). In the future I'm planning to add sources from Osprey, Cosmo, Needham, and Liang Jie Ming's siege weapon sight. ] (]) 4:12, 13 January 2010

After a brief intermission over the Northern hemisphere summer season and the Southern hemisphere's mid-winter, ''Positively Economics'' is back. In recent weeks it has been my privilege to work on countering ] with a couple of articles on the economic history of Uganda. Indeed, with English in the ascendancy when it comes to second languages, many other audiences too.

Both of the new creations made the front page via the ] section for newly-created or significantly expanded articles. Somehow the fact that Tenmei was banned and now needs a mentor does not surprise me. I've never met anyone who could rant so incessantly about the same topic for hours on end. He could write a book with all the space he used! Lol.

As for Comparisons between Rome and Han, I like the current suggestion that the article should be about the modern academic ''study'' of the comparison between these two civilizations. I've made that clear on the incubator talk page. Speaking of Rome and Han, I've recently set my sights on rewriting the article for the ], truly the key player between Han and Rome. You can take a look at the notes I've started to compile at ]. To me it seems very strange that the existing contemporary sources for the subsequent ] are so much richer and abundant than those of the Parthian era. Much of Parthian history has been preserved via external sources, such as through Greek (i.e. ]), Roman (including Greek Romans), and Chinese historians (mostly ]'s descriptions of the diplomatic exchanges between Han and Parthia). It's a damn good thing the Parthians minted a different coin for each king (complete with a raised, ]), otherwise the chronological succession of each ruler would be hazy at best.

===How about this===
http://literaturesotherlanguages.blogspot.com/2010/01/prejudice-against-pidgin.html
{{quotation|"Going even further with respect to the situation in northern China, ] theorized that during the Qing (Manchu) dynasty (1644-1911), the language of the capital was not Chinese but rather a pidgin made up of Manchu and Chinese elements, as well as a few elements from Mongolian and other minor languages. Furthermore, he suggested that modern Beijing dialect was a descendant of that pidgin. Though this theory is impressionistically persuasive, the major obstacle in accepting it is the lack of solid empirical evidence.}}

Teen, if the above theory holds, that mean the nowadays Mandarin is in fact part Manchu part Chinese, that could only means, culturally speaking, as long as we are speaking Mandarin, we are part of Manchu! ==Asian 10,000 Challenge invite==
Hi. The ] has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland ] and ]. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like ]. For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current ] which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its ]. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

* updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. Blocked for violating restriction

You are now blocked for 3 weeks for editing both Great Divergence, Economic history of China (pre-1911) and Chinese economic reform in violation of your editing restriction. Your editing restriction will remain in effect after the block has expired. Toddst1 (talk) 14:09, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

How is Chinese economic reform and Great Divergence in my editing restriction? GPM has edited it exactly twice in the past month and hasn't commented there in weeks. This is an obvious case of trip-up. First the above user invites me to comment on ANI and then blocks and topic bans me for putting an issue on ANI (this alone is extremely outrageous) Then he blocks me for 3 weeks for the "crime" of editing an article that GPM edited 3-5 weeks ago. This is outrageous. If wikipedia treats its contributers like this it won't last long.Teeninvestor (talk) 14:49, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
GPM as edited the article within one month. I will take this to ANI. Toddst1 (talk) 17:39, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Unblocked with caveats

Per the e-mail you've sent me, I've unblocked you, as long as those provisions are kept. However, remember to keep a cool head, don't act rashly, and don't interact with GPM. Avoid the controversial articles, and all of that jazz. --Patar knight - /contributions 03:09, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Are there any other areas you could would like to contribute in for a couple of months and perhaps at your RFCU offer to voluntarily take three months off editing the disputed topic and associated articles to gain experience in policies and guidelines. Off2riorob (talk) 15:12, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

I hope you don't disappear. I've always enjoyed learning new information by reading the articles you create. I thought I wrote a thank-you for Qing conquest theory but it seems I never saved the edit. Soap 23:07, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Recent actions

I saw Gun Powder Ma's recent tag on Chinese economic reform as it happened, and seeing that it was dubious (from what I read about the Chinese Civil War), looked to the Loren 4 source to find the unsourced fact and indeed it was there. When I went to cite it, though, you had already done it with an aggrieved edit summary. Your assessment that it was a provocation was probably correct, though you are not flattered in the new ANI complaint for which GPM used that edit. My suggestion would be to not be so quick to take the bait, when uninvolved editors can easily fix it. If you had waited five minutes there, you would probably look much better (and GPM worse) to uninvolved judges. Quigley (talk) 19:27, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Review of Article

Hi, before I even start to review it, please updated your references. Please look http://en.wikipedia.org/Template:Cite_book to see the proper format to reference a book; all the book references you are using are not in a proper format. Look at example 1 and example 2 on the link i posted. Article looks good tho! Cheers! Meishern (talk) 21:23, 15 August 2010 (UTC) ...i pasted the link .. not sure why didnt work before, sorry. Cheers! Meishern (talk) 13:35, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

I am failing the GA nomination of the article Chinese economic reform.

Reasons:

1) Article is unstable with too many changes made every couple of days for 8+ weeks. 2) Edit wars about this article over the past 30 day involving multiple parties.

Please restart the GA nomination process when either a consensus is reached or the article becomes stable.

Cheers! Meishern (talk) 22:12, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 3 weeks due to your continued hounding and accusations against Gun Powder Ma (talk · contribs) as evidenced in this edit summary as well as other edits. Unblock request

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Teeninvestor (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

Explanation: I was blocked for "violating" an interaction ban put in place for an early release to a 48 hour block that the community had deemed ineffective, and even the blocking admin stated that the restriction should have been modified. 1 2 3 4 5. He has been completely one sided considering that he had completely ignored massive bouts of personal attacks and harassment from the editor I "harassed" (although I had performed no personal attacks but was restricted for posting on ANI) 1 2 3. 1 even when I brought it to his attention on his talk page. He advised me to go to ANI 3. The most outrageous part is when he blocked me for following his advice to go to ANI and imposed the sanctions on me which lead to this block in the first place (I also ask for a review of my initial block and resulting sanctions which I also felt to be illegitimate, as they were imposed for going on ANI).Teeninvestor (talk) 23:10, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Misplaced Pages:Requests for comment/Teeninvestor indicates that the community considers your editing with respect to China to be very problematic. Whatever the merits of this particular block, I am not convinced that unblocking you would be a benefit to the project, except if you agree to abide by a complete topic ban from everything related to China.  Sandstein  07:40, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

From the editor

After a brief intermission over the Northern hemisphere summer season and the Southern hemisphere's mid-winter, Positively Economics is back. In recent weeks it has been my privilege to work on countering systemic bias with a couple of articles on the economic history of Uganda. Projects like these help, little by little, to open up new areas on knowledge to Western audiences. Indeed, with English in the ascendancy when it comes to second languages, many other audiences too.

Both of the new creations made the front page via the Did you know? section for newly-created or significantly expanded articles. I would encourage other editors, particularly those who like badges, to try to get more economics articles onto the front page through this and other sections. Those with a particularly competitive bent might also wish to consider signing up for the 2011 Wikicup (great for focussing the mind). - Jarry1250  18:55, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Skysmith has posted an updated list of missing economics topics. Most will need redirecting or new articles written to blueify them, so, if you can lend a hand with the effort, please do. There are some from virtually all areas of economics and hence to suit all tastes.

Project news
  • Unassessed articles:

A whole swath of articles have been added to the WikiProject recently, mainly on notable economists. They are yet to be assessed on their talk pages; this also provides a good opportunity to check and improve some of our least monitored articles.

  • Unsourced BLPs:

Before the articles about economists were added, the project had very few unsourced biographies of living people; now there are a little over a hundred. If we can clear them, however, then it is unlikely that there will be many more. Again, they represent some of our least cared-for articles, and often present good targets for cleaning up.

  • Your comments are invited in the following other ongoing project discussions and requests for help:

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Misplaced Pages:The 10,000 Challenge and Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Misplaced Pages:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoLo dicono a Signa. 03:06, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of The Han Net

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on The Han Net requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. DrStrauss talk 18:57, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. For the co-ordinators, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:35, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Misplaced Pages. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Misplaced Pages Military Historians.
