Any idea if he was born as Barry Cope? ] 00:37, 18 May 2007 (UTC)24.191.99.78

Elvis Duran was born "Elvis Bartholomew Duran" on August 5, 1964. After his parents divorced, they changed his last name to "Cope", his adopted father's last name. Upon graduating high school in 1983, he changed his name back to the original.

I went to college with Elvis and have kept up with his career over the years. We have several mutual friends he still communicates with. I added this info to the "discussion" page because I have no documentation to back it up. Feel free to contact him for confirmation. Elvis was NOT born as Barry Cope as you keep insisting.

Here is evidence that he once went by Barry Cope, maybe he was born as Elvis:
Look under KIKM and you'll see: "Barry Cope (1979-81; now "Elvis Duran" on WHTZ-New York,)"
As well on: you will see:
Barry Cope...1982 McKinney High School Graduate was a D.J. at KMMK from 1979 to 1981.
Barry is now the most popular morning D.J. in New York...Known as "Elvis Duran" on WHTZ-FM (Z100) <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">—Preceding ] comment added by ] (]) 01:26, 20 April 2010 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

I live in NYC and listen to the show every morning. Elvis always talks about being openly gay -- he doesn't talk about who he dates or anything, but he's always been openly gay for the past couple years. I was actually surprised to see this listed under "Privately Gay", I thought everyone knew.

He is openly gay. Early on in his career he did not speak about his sexuality on the air, but then (not sure of the exact year, but I suspect somewhere around 2008) he made a statement on air during one of his morning shows that "yes, he is indeed gay" and that he never intended to hide the fact. <small><span class="autosigned">— Preceding ] comment added by ] (] • ]) 18:31, 30 December 2010 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

Prod tag

I removed the prod tag as subject is award-winning morning host at high-rated station in US market #1 and article establishes these clear signs of notability. I agree it could use better sourcing but that's cause for a {{ref-improve}} tag, not speedy deletion. - Dravecky (talk) 09:39, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

High ratings and market size make the station notable, not the people working there. However, awards would certainly make this person notable but I dont see any in the article. Can you add them (with proper sources of course)? Also, that was a prod tag, not a speedy deletion request. The only way it the article would be deleted is if the prod tag stayed for more than a week.--Rtphokie (talk) 11:41, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
The article says "Elvis Duran received the Personality of the Year award in 2001 on the Radio Music Awards broadcast on ABC" but, yes, that needs proper sourcing. - Dravecky (talk) 02:52, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Okay, that should be enough referencing and notability for even the most devoted deletionist. - Dravecky (talk) 05:17, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Looks great. That effort outshines even the most devoted inclusionists. There are presidential articles with fewer references.--Rtphokie (talk) 10:54, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Sad but true. (The Dallas Stars game went into quadruple overtime tonight so I had a little time to kill during stoppages in play and intermission.) - Dravecky (talk) 10:59, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Privately Gay

I always suspected that Elvis was gay, but he never does refer to his sexuality. Today, Rihanna was on the Zoo and was explaining her hair coloring process to him. He replied with "you're telling a gay guy about fashion" or something along those lines. Elvis never had been one to promote his lifestyle and seems to keep his private life very quiet. I have heard him in the past refer to "partners" so I wanted to to gather some discussion before putting him in the LGBT category. Thoughts? 161.185.151.150 (talk) 16:59, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

If we can find some sources to back this up, sure. Other than that I would just say he was being your typical morning radio disc jockey. Mr Radio Guy !!! 02:30, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

I have heard Elvis, on the air, on multiple occasions call himself "gay." Although, he is also very upfront about wanting to leave his private life, private. Ergo, I don't forsee any "Elvis Duran" features in magazines - but would it be apt. to use these references as sources? E.g. "Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, 11/28/2009, Hour 3" - or something similar? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.105.169.106 (talk) 05:43, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
