The '''Jeep Wrangler''' is a series of ] and ] ] ] ]s manufactured by ] since 1986, and currently in its fourth generation. The ], the most recent generation, was unveiled in late 2017 and is produced at Jeep's ].
The '''Jeep Wrangler''' also known as the '''YJ''', '''TJ''', '''JK''', and '''J8''' (Military version), is a compact ] ] vehicle produced by ] automaker ], under its ] marque. It is a successor to the famous ] vehicle by way of the ] civilian Jeep (]) in the 1950s, later produced by ] and by ] (AMC). The Wrangler debuted in 1987, was revised in 1997 and again in 2007, and is still popular today. A defining feature of all Wranglers is that they continue to use ]s both front and rear like their forefather, the CJ.

The Wrangler is a direct progression from the ], through the ] produced by ], ], and ] (AMC) from the mid-1940s through the 1980s. Although neither AMC nor Chrysler (after it purchased AMC in 1987) have claimed that the Wrangler was a direct descendant of the original military model — both the CJ Jeeps and the conceptually consistent Wrangler, with their solid axles and open top, have been called the Jeep model as central to Jeep's brand identity as the rear-engine ] is to ].<ref>{{cite web |last1=Kim |first1=Robert |title=Kaiser Jeep CJ-5 – Transcendent Independent |url= https://www.curbsideclassic.com/curbside-classics-american/curbside-classic-kaiser-jeep-cj-5-transcendent-independent/ |publisher=Curbside Classic |date=27 October 2019 |access-date=4 January 2021}}</ref>
Between 1987 and 1992, the Wrangler/YJ was built in ]. It was then built in the ] plant until mid-2006, after which the plant was slowly torn down. Currently, the Wrangler is produced at Jeep's ] plant in ].

Similar to the ] and the ] before it, all Wrangler models continue to use a separate body and frame, rigid ] both front and rear, a tapering nose design with flared fenders, a fold-flat windshield and can be driven without doors. Also, with few exceptions, they have part-time ], with the choice of high and low gearing, and standard open bodies with removable hard or soft tops. However, the Wrangler series was specifically redesigned to be safer and more comfortable on-road, to attract more daily drivers,<ref>{{cite web|url= http://www.4-the-love-of-jeeps.com/jeep-wrangler.html |title=Jeep Wrangler: The Real Thing or Compromise? |website=4-the-love-of-jeeps.com |date=1995-03-21 |access-date=2010-09-19}}</ref> by upgrading its suspension, drivetrain, and interior, compared to the CJ line. The suspension on all Wranglers included ] and ]s, and, from the 1997 TJ onwards, front and rear coil springs instead of the previous leaf springs.<ref>{{cite book |last=Lee |first=Christian |title=High-Performance Jeep Wrangler TJ Builder's Guide |date=2007 |publisher=CarTech |isbn=9781932494266 |pages=74–75 |url= https://books.google.com/books?id=HlbCM7VEmroC&q=Jeep+wrangler+coil+spring+suspension&pg=PA74 |access-date=27 November 2018}}</ref>
Between 1987 and 1995, models were sold under the YJ designation. From 1997 to 2006, models were called the TJ's with a subcategory from 2004 to 2006 of "Unlimited" Wranglers known as the LJ's. From 2007 to the present, models are known as the JK. The model designations are used throughout the world, as well as in the Jeep enthusiast community to differentiate which model is being spoken of instead of using the more ambiguous term "Wrangler" to help identify specifics about them.

From 2004 on, the Wrangler has been complemented with long-wheelbase versions, called Wrangler ''Unlimited''. 2004-2006 models were longer versions with 2 doors. In 2004 only automatic transmission-equipped “Unlimited” versions were sold. In 2005 both an automatic and manual 6-speed (NSG-370) were offered. Since 2007, the long-wheelbase Wranglers were four-door models, offering over {{convert|20|in|mm|0|abbr=on}} more room. By mid-2017 the four-door models represented three-quarters of all new Wranglers on the market.<ref name=2DrFail>{{cite web|url= https://www.autotrader.com/car-news/every-single-two-door-suv-has-failed-266841 |title=Every Single Two-Door SUV Has Failed |first=Doug |last=DeMuro |date=June 2017 |work=Autotrader |access-date=2017-09-23}}</ref>

The ] '''YJ''', sold as the '''Wrangler''', replaced the much-loved but slower-selling ] in 1987 and was built in ], ] until the plant closed on April 23, 1992. Production was then moved to Toledo, Ohio using the same plant that produced the Willys Jeeps back in WWII. The American Motor Company (AMC) had designed the new jeep to be more comfortable on-road in an attempt to attract more daily drivers.<ref>http://www.4-the-love-of-jeeps.com/jeep-wrangler.html</ref> It was a new design with a wider wheelbase, slightly less ], and more comfort. The YJ also had a ] similar to that of the CJ, however, the springs were wider, and the YJs sported trackbars and swaybars for added handling. Despite the new grill, the body is very similar to the CJ7's, and it is interchangeable with some minor modifications. The YJ also was given a larger windshield over the CJ. The YJs are easily identifiable due to the rectangular headlights, disliked by some ] aficionados, and the fact that the wiper blades rest on the windshield giving this version a distinctive look. The blades rested on the windshield due to the now wider arc of the blades to clean the now larger windshield. These two changes were later removed when the TJ changes came about in 1996. 632,231 YJs were built through model year 1995, though YJs were still produced into mid '96 bringing the total production number to 685,071 units.

==Background==
The YJ used a 2.5 L '']'' ] or optional 4.2 L '']'' I6 until 1991. That year, a ] 180 hp (134 kW) 4.0 L ] variant replaced the 112 hp (84 kW) 4.2 L 258 CID ]. The NP207 transfer case was used only in 1987 and replaced by the NP231
Outwardly resembling the ], the first Wrangler - formally announced in February 1986 at the 1986 ] - was said to be based on a new set of design parameters. "The product philosophy behind the two vehicles" ] (AMC VP of Product Engineering) stated, "is completely different".<ref>{{cite book |last1=Ackerson |first1=Robert |title=Jeep Wrangler from 1987 |date=2006 |publisher=Veloce Publishing |isbn=9781904788973 |page=7}}</ref>

The new car had a wider track, slightly less ], and improved handling, along with additional passenger comfort features. The YJ still had ] similar to that of the CJ – however, the springs were wider, and the first Wrangler had ] ]s and ]s for improved handling and safety, making it less likely to flip by untrained or unwary drivers.<ref>{{cite web|url= https://www.allpar.com/threads/how-the-jeep-got-its-name-instead-of-peep-beep-or-seep.229807/#post-1085223905 |title=How the Jeep got its name instead of Peep, Beep, or Seep |website=allpar.com |date=16 November 2020 |first1=Ken |last1=Massey |first2=David |last2=Zatz |access-date=28 June 2022}}</ref>
The roll cage was extended in 1992 to allow for rear shoulder belts, and ]s were added as an option the next year. An ] option for 4-cylinder Wranglers came in 1994 along with a ].

=== Manufacturing ===
In 1994, the slave cylinder on manual transmissions was moved outside of the transmission's bellhousing to allow for easier replacement, and in 1995 larger U-joints were used . For the 1992 model year, the YJ switched over to an electronic speedometer outmoding the cable speedos on older YJs. 1995 was the only year to have a fully galvanized frame and body.
Jeep YJ models were manufactured between 1986 and 1995 at ], and subsequently at the ] plant.<ref>{{cite news| url= https://www.nytimes.com/1990/07/26/business/company-news-chrysler-plans-to-close-plant.html |title=Company News; Chrysler Plans To Close Plant |newspaper=The New York Times |date=26 July 1990 |access-date=16 February 2014}}</ref> A major difference in the 1987–1995 models were the rectangular headlights, which reverted to rounded ones in the TJ and then JK versions. In 2006, Wrangler production was moved to ].<ref>{{cite news|first=Julie M. |last=McKinnon |url= http://www.toledoblade.com/Automotive/2007/02/11/Bumpy-at-first-assembly-smooths-out-for-Wrangler.html |title=Bumpy at first, assembly smooths out for Wrangler |newspaper=The Toledo Blade |date=11 February 2007 |access-date=16 February 2014}}</ref> Post-2006 Wranglers were set apart from their predecessors by the angle of the grille. In all previous models, the grille was flat and even with the front fenders. The newer Wrangler was constructed with a grille that angled out from the top and then continued in a straight line from the midway point, toward the bottom. This decreased the hood length while increasing the length of the fenders. In more recent models, this angle has been lowered more toward the bottom of the grille. In ], the YJ was produced in both short and long-wheelbase versions. The extended wheelbase retained the 2-door design and was dubbed LJ (or labeled as YJL in Egypt's Owner's Manual). The long-wheelbase continued as TJL (aka J8) inspired the JK's 4-door version.

== Models ==
YJs produced in early 1996 were sold as 1995 model years, but featured a few new parts not seen on any earlier YJ. This included: the new TJ bumpstops on the hood (rubber boots vs the traditional U-bars), reinforced tailgate hinges, and it has been said that some even had rear TJ bumpers. Some lucky ones also got the newly tuned I6 that was tuned to run quieter in preparation for the TJ.
The Wrangler debuted in 1986 as a new model after the discontinuance of the Jeep CJ series.<ref>{{cite web |title=History of Jeep Wrangler |url= https://www.newsilike.in/history-of-the-jeep-wrangler/ |publisher=Newsilike |date=11 May 2016 |access-date=4 January 2021}}</ref> It was revised in 1996, and completely redesigned in 2006. In addition to the model's name ''Wrangler'', each model received a designation corresponding to its generation: YJ (1986–1995), TJ (1997–2006), JK (2007–2018), and the current JL model. Foreign military versions of the Wrangler have carried the J8 designation which was initially dubbed TJL when first produced at Arab American Vehicle's Egyptian plant.<ref>{{cite web|title=Wrangler "TJL" diesel technical specifications |url= http://www.aav.com.eg/diesel_data.html |website=aav.com.eg |access-date=17 April 2014}}</ref> The Wrangler-based ], the ], began production in 2019 for the 2020 model year.<ref>{{cite web|url= https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/future-cars/news/a29009/2017-jeep-wrangler-pickup-info/ |title=2019 Jeep Wrangler Pickup: Everything We Know |last=Perkins |first=Chris |website=blog.caranddriver.com |access-date=2016-01-13}}</ref>

=== YJ (1986) ===
Top options for YJ were the same as those offered on TJ. A Soft top with "half doors", featuring soft plastic zipper windows came standard (windows could be removed completely from these doors). Full frames doors with conventional glass windows were optional on soft-top models. Hard tops with rear wiper and defroster were optional, but came standard with full framed doors. YJ featured large mirrors with manually adjustable arms on half door models, while full framed doors received smaller adjustable mirrors with fixed arms (which were mounted further away from the door corner, compared to the larger style mirrors). Depending on year and interior color, Jeeps could be had with the top colors in black, white, tan and gray. Roll bar padding normally matched top color, with the exception of white tops.

Although introduced in 1986 (under the control of ]), and by 1987 (the first model year) under the new ownership of ], the first-generation Wrangler had been developed by ] (AMC). It featured rectangular headlamps, differing from the round ones on its predecessors, the CJ Jeeps. The new 'Wrangler' was a new design, and compared to the CJ-7, it had a wider track, slightly less ], and improved comfort, safety, and handling. It continued many features of the CJ-7 such as part-time 4WD, live rigid front and rear axles on leaf springs, and having an open body on a separate frame. It maintained the same wheelbase.<ref>{{cite web|title=Jeep Wrangler 1986 brochure |url= https://israeljeeps.co.il/%d7%92%d7%99%d7%a4-%d7%90%d7%a1%d7%a4%d7%a0%d7%95%d7%aa/yj-%d7%a8%d7%a0%d7%92%d7%9c%d7%a8/ |access-date=25 March 2018}}</ref>
===YJ Wrangler Islander===
From 1988 until 1992, Jeep produced an options package known as the "Islander". Several colors were offered, such as Bright Red, Sunset Yellow, Teal, and White, and both engines were offered.

===YJ Wrangler Renegade===
]
From 1991 until 1994, Jeep produced an options package on the YJ Wrangler listed as the "Renegade Decor Group". Initially, all Renegades were White, Black or Red. In 1992, Blue was added, in 1993, Bronze. The Renegade Decor Group was a $4,266.00 option over a base Wrangler in 1991 and included special alloy wheels, exclusive body flares, along with many other features.

'''Contents of the Renegade Decor Package'''
* 4.0 Liter (242 CID) I-6 Engine
* 29x9.5R15 LT OWL Wrangler A/T Tires

=== TJ (1996) ===
A hardtop was a $923.00 option and came with a mandatory rear window defroster at a $164.00 premium. Although soft-top models came standard with "half doors", full framed doors with glass windows were an option. Renegades typically had the tilt steering wheel ($130.00) and an AM/FM/cassette stereo radio ($264.00). A column shift automatic was also an available option, but it was not popular. While a base Wrangler with the inline-6 went for $12,356.00, the Renegade package pushed that price up to $18,588.00 in 1991.

These vehicles were sent as optioned Wranglers to Auto Style Cars in ], where the Renegade Decor Package was installed, then shipped back to Jeep for delivery to dealers. Renegades all have a small sticker on the driver's side door, right above the latch denoting the visit to ASC.

At the price premium over a standard Wrangler, sales were fairly limited, so finding one today is a semi-rare occurrence. The price, plus what hardcore Jeepers felt were "funny looking plastic fenders" limited the sales. Although having nearly identical off-road capabilities, these Jeep were typically used as "beach cruisers" because of their their price and rarity, as well as because their over sized flares and body cladding were not necessarily designed for the abuse that tree branches and over-sized tires can often cause.

===Trim Levels===

North American YJ/Wrangler were available in the following standard trims.

* Base: also referred to as "S" & "SE" at different points in the model run; first few years the back seat and rear bumperettes were optional, some years the 6cyl engine was an option, other years only the 4cyl was available in the "Base" model.
* Laredo" Chrome grille, bumpers, and trim, hard top and hard full doors, tinted windows, faux leather interior, body color fender flares and alloy wheels)
* Islander: which included "Sunset" Islander graphics and body colored wheel flares
* Sport: which featured "sport" graphics and, beginning in 1991, a 4.0 L 242 CID inline-6 cylinder engine
* Sahara: which came standard with most available options, including body color fender flares and alloy wheels, also included with the Sahara edition are special green trail-cloth seats with storage pockets, interior door panels with pockets, front bumper mounted fog lamps, and plastic ends on the front bumper)
* Renegade: which ran until 1994, and featured a similar option package as Sahara, but added premium wheels, deluxe interior group as well as oversized "Renegade" wheel flares and body cladding with integrated fog/off road lamps.
* Rio Grande (Available in champagne gold, moss green and white and, (rarely seen) Mango Orange; with a Pueblo themed interior trim package. This trim was only available in 1995, and was added to spice up the base 4-cylinder Wrangler 'S' models{{-}}

The YJ gave way to the '''TJ''' for the 1997 model year (note that there was no 1996 model year; the 1997 TJ was released in Spring 1996). This updated Wrangler featured a coil-spring suspension (based on that of the ]) for better ride and handling, and a return to the classic CJ's round headlamps. The engine is the same 4.0 L ] used in the ] and ]. A 2.5 L ] motor was available on entry-level models until 2003 when the 2.4 L ] '']'' 4-cylinder engine replaced it.
Introduced in 1996 as a 1997 model, the second-generation Wrangler reintroduced the round headlamps from the classic Jeep models. The main engine was the ] 242 4.0 L inline 6. From the Wrangler TJ onwards, all Wranglers were fitted with coil-spring instead of leaf-spring suspension, the automatic shifter was relocated to the floor.

In 2004, a long-wheelbase "Unlimited" model was introduced. Furthermore, starting in 2006, Israeli ] Ltd. produced the first five-door Jeep Wrangler derivative, built under license from Chrysler, for the ], based on a {{convert|2931|mm|in|1|abbr=on}} wheelbase Wrangler (TJ).
A ] version of the TJ was available for export markets, and was also offered for sale to US rural route postal carriers. The version offered to US postal carriers was only available with an automatic transmission.

In 1999, the fuel tank became standard at {{convert|19|U.S.gal|L impgal}} capacity. There were some changes that occurred between the 2002 and 2003 years that made some parts difficult to directly swap back and forth, but also made it easy to identify certain years. From 1997 to 2002, the side door mirrors were black metal framed mirrors; and from 2003 to 2006 they were plastic molded mirrors. The fit of hard and soft tops is slightly different, and the fabric and colors available changed from 2002 to 2003. In 2003, the 3-speed automatic transmission was replaced with a 4-speed automatic with overdrive. It has the standard option of turning off overdrive with a dash switch if desired. The radio bezels went from a rectangle in 2002 to a rounded edged rectangle in 2003, so swapping these also required the console to either be swapped out or modified. The sound bar inside was changed to sound pods. The interior seats also changed design from 2002 to 2003, going from a rounder model to one with a distinct separation between back and headrest areas.

The Jeep Wrangler is a series of compact and mid-size four-wheel drive off-road SUVs manufactured by Jeep since 1986, and currently in its fourth generation. The Wrangler JL, the most recent generation, was unveiled in late 2017 and is produced at Jeep's Toledo Complex.

The Wrangler is a direct progression from the World War II Jeep, through the CJ (Civilian Jeeps) produced by Willys, Kaiser-Jeep, and American Motors Corporation (AMC) from the mid-1940s through the 1980s. Although neither AMC nor Chrysler (after it purchased AMC in 1987) have claimed that the Wrangler was a direct descendant of the original military model — both the CJ Jeeps and the conceptually consistent Wrangler, with their solid axles and open top, have been called the Jeep model as central to Jeep's brand identity as the rear-engine 911 is to Porsche.

Similar to the Willys MB and the CJ Jeeps before it, all Wrangler models continue to use a separate body and frame, rigid live axles both front and rear, a tapering nose design with flared fenders, a fold-flat windshield and can be driven without doors. Also, with few exceptions, they have part-time four-wheel drive systems, with the choice of high and low gearing, and standard open bodies with removable hard or soft tops. However, the Wrangler series was specifically redesigned to be safer and more comfortable on-road, to attract more daily drivers, by upgrading its suspension, drivetrain, and interior, compared to the CJ line. The suspension on all Wranglers included trackbars and anti-roll bars, and, from the 1997 TJ onwards, front and rear coil springs instead of the previous leaf springs.

From 2004 on, the Wrangler has been complemented with long-wheelbase versions, called Wrangler Unlimited. 2004-2006 models were longer versions with 2 doors. In 2004 only automatic transmission-equipped “Unlimited” versions were sold. In 2005 both an automatic and manual 6-speed (NSG-370) were offered. Since 2007, the long-wheelbase Wranglers were four-door models, offering over 20 in (508 mm) more room. By mid-2017 the four-door models represented three-quarters of all new Wranglers on the market.

Background

Outwardly resembling the Jeep CJ-7, the first Wrangler - formally announced in February 1986 at the 1986 Chicago Auto Show - was said to be based on a new set of design parameters. "The product philosophy behind the two vehicles" François Castaing (AMC VP of Product Engineering) stated, "is completely different".

The new car had a wider track, slightly less ground clearance, and improved handling, along with additional passenger comfort features. The YJ still had leaf spring suspension similar to that of the CJ – however, the springs were wider, and the first Wrangler had trackbar suspension links and anti-roll bars for improved handling and safety, making it less likely to flip by untrained or unwary drivers.

Manufacturing

Jeep YJ models were manufactured between 1986 and 1995 at Brampton Assembly, and subsequently at the Toledo South Assembly plant. A major difference in the 1987–1995 models were the rectangular headlights, which reverted to rounded ones in the TJ and then JK versions. In 2006, Wrangler production was moved to Toledo Complex. Post-2006 Wranglers were set apart from their predecessors by the angle of the grille. In Egypt, the YJ was produced in both short and long-wheelbase versions. The extended wheelbase retained the 2-door design and was dubbed LJ (or labeled as YJL in Egypt's Owner's Manual). The long-wheelbase continued as TJL (aka J8) inspired the JK's 4-door version.

Models

The Wrangler debuted in 1986 as a new model after the discontinuance of the Jeep CJ series. It was revised in 1996, and completely redesigned in 2006. In addition to the model's name Wrangler, each model received a designation corresponding to its generation: YJ (1986–1995), TJ (1997–2006), JK (2007–2018), and the current JL model. Foreign military versions of the Wrangler have carried the J8 designation which was initially dubbed TJL when first produced at Arab American Vehicle's Egyptian plant. The Wrangler-based pickup truck, the Gladiator, began production in 2019 for the 2020 model year.

Although introduced in 1986 (under the control of Renault), and by 1987 (the first model year) under the new ownership of Chrysler, the first-generation Wrangler had been developed by American Motors Corporation (AMC). It featured rectangular headlamps, differing from the round ones on its predecessors, the CJ Jeeps. The new 'Wrangler' was a new design, and compared to the CJ-7, it had a wider track, slightly less ground clearance, and improved comfort, safety, and handling. It continued many features of the CJ-7 such as part-time 4WD, live rigid front and rear axles on leaf springs, and having an open body on a separate frame. It maintained the same wheelbase.

Introduced in 1996 as a 1997 model, the second-generation Wrangler reintroduced the round headlamps from the classic Jeep models. The main engine was the AMC 242 4.0 L inline 6. From the Wrangler TJ onwards, all Wranglers were fitted with coil-spring instead of leaf-spring suspension, the automatic shifter was relocated to the floor.

In 2004, a long-wheelbase "Unlimited" model was introduced. Furthermore, starting in 2006, Israeli Automotive Industries Ltd. produced the first five-door Jeep Wrangler derivative, built under license from Chrysler, for the Israel Defense Forces, based on a 2,931 mm (115.4 in) wheelbase Wrangler (TJ).

The third-generation Wrangler was released in 2006 for the 2007 model year. Developed under the ownership of DaimlerChrysler, the JK was Jeep's first Wrangler that was a completely clean-sheet design of the body, frame, and suspension. New features for the Wrangler included power windows, remote power door locks, navigation, as well as electronically detachable sway bars on some models.

Along with the traditional 2-door model, a 4-door "Unlimited" model was released, offering considerably more room, thanks to an over 20 inches (50 cm) longer wheelbase. These became quite successful sellers. By mid-2017 the four-door models represented three-quarters of all new Wranglers on the market.

On September 2, 2011, Jeep announced a partnership with Activision for the second year in a row, to make a special edition Modern Warfare 3 Jeep based on the Wrangler Rubicon model. The Jeep comes with various features including the interior and exterior being designed with a Modern Warfare 3 theme. Jeep dealers started selling this model in November 2011.

The fourth-generation Wrangler was unveiled in late 2017 for the 2018 model year. The JL features additional powertrains over the Pentastar V6, a redesigned 8-speed automatic transmission, an easier fold-flat windshield, new zipperless soft tops, blind-spot monitoring, a backup camera, and a more modern interior. Powertrains for the 2018 models included a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 making 270 hp (201 kW; 274 PS) and 295 lb⋅ft (400 N⋅m; 41 kg⋅m) of torque and the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 gasoline engine making 285 hp (213 kW; 289 PS) and 260 lb⋅ft (353 N⋅m; 36 kg⋅m) of torque. Additionally, a 2.2-liter turbodiesel I4 was first available in Europe and since 2020 in North America with EcoDiesel engines. For the 2021 model year, Jeep introduced a plug-in hybrid version of the Wrangler, dubbed the Wrangler 4xe, that went on sale in early 2021. The Wrangler 4xe provides an estimated 25 miles (40 km) of all-electric range. In late summer 2021 Jeep released the Rubicon 392 model, the most powerful JL ever produced. It comes with a 6.4L Hemi V8 that produces 470 hp (350 kW; 477 PS) and 470 lb⋅ft (637 N⋅m; 65 kg⋅m) of torque. Its 470-horsepower engine powers through a quarter mile in 13.0 seconds, going 0-60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.

In September 2008, Chrysler vice-chair Tom LaSorda unveiled a range-extended electric 4-door Wrangler along with a similarly engineered Town and Country minivan and a purely electric sports car. The Wrangler would have a 40-mile (64 km) range before a gas engine starts and begins supplying additional electricity. The 4xe has a 17kWh battery with a usable capacity of 15kWh and has an all-electric range of 21 miles (34 kilometers) per charge. The 4xe is a plug-in Hybrid that takes advantage of Jeep's new 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine.

In early 2021 Jeep created the Magneto concept using a battery electric powertrain on a slightly modified Jeep JL two-door frame and body. The Magneto sports a JPP 2-inch (50mm) lift kit, 17-inch Lights Out black metallic wheels with 35-inch (958mm) mud-terrain tires, custom roll cage, Mopar Rock Rails, steel bumpers with a Warn winch, and a steel belly pan.

In April 2022, Jeep unveiled a new concept: the Wrangler Magneto 2.0. It includes a new electric powertrain calibration, which Jeep refers to as “electronic nitrous oxide” to maintain peak power for as long as 10 seconds. Rated at 625 horsepower and up to 850-footpounds (1152 joules) of torque, the Magneto 2.0 is capable of 0-60 mph (0–100 km/h) in 2 seconds.

Recognition

The Jeep Wrangler received the 2009 Best Resale Value Award from Kelley Blue Book (KBB) in the sport utility vehicle category. In 2012 and for 2013, it was also awarded the Best Resale Value Award from Kelly Blue Book in the compact sport utility vehicle category. The Wrangler also holds the Models to Best Hold Its Value recognition from Kelley Blue Book for 1998, 1999, 2003, 2011, and 2012.

The 2011, 2012, and 2013 Jeep Wranglers have received Canadian Black Book's Best Retained Value Award for the compact SUV category.

In 2007, The Jeep Wrangler had set the Guinness World Record for the highest altitude attained by a four-wheeled vehicle after ferrying Matthias Jeschke and his Extreme Events adventure team up Chile's Ojos del Salado, the highest volcano on Earth (record reached the same year by a Suzuki Samurai). The trek from base camp to the world record height ran from March 7 to March 13, when the team's pair of Wrangler Rubicon Unlimiteds checked in at 6,646 metres (21,804 ft).

In 2007 and for 2013, the magazine Four Wheeler awarded the Jeep Wrangler with its Four-Wheeler of the Year Award and in January 2010, they awarded the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon its title of 4x4 of the Decade.

In 1997, 2007, and 2012, the magazine Petersen's 4-Wheel & Off-Road awarded the Jeep Wrangler with its 4x4 of the Year award.

The 2008 edition of Forbes Autos lists the four-wheel-drive convertible Jeep Wrangler at number four among the top ten vehicles with the highest resale value.

In May 2009, Business Week magazine named the Wrangler One of the Most Iconic Cars of the Last 20 Years.

A 2018 iSeeCars.com study named the Jeep Wrangler as the vehicle with the lowest depreciation after five years.
