Hi Alison, wanted to leave a note on your talk page for a week or so. When I joined Misplaced Pages a year and a half ago or so, not everybody was too welcoming. Fortunately, there were too many examples to the contrary - of people being nice, than of being not - which motivated me considerably to stay on, happily. You wouldn't remember this incident at all, but you were the administrator who gave me my rollback rights and got me on to enjoying the fascinating experience of Misplaced Pages. Huggle was pure addiction and the feeling of contributing to the betterment of the project, more so. For those rollback rights, and for helping me in-between whenever I came to you, my warmest thanks are reserved for you. I became an administrator on Misplaced Pages on the 16th of this month... and you singularly deserve the credits for the same. Alison, thanks again, and sincere regards always.] ] 17:40, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

==Hi!==
A chara, Ali-oops. Long time no hear. I took a quick glance at your webpage (just the intro) at your talkpage invitation. Didn't want to stay too long lest I was the uninvited guest barging in. Anyway, congratulations -- apparently you have at least one new little one to cherish (based on your wording). Glad to see you're not being beaten down by the State of California's current state. Think Whitman will win?

Anyway, to the point: I am having a mild with another editor over everyone's favourite octogenarian ingenue from the film ''Titanic'', ], who recently passed away in the prime of life (100 years old). Anyway the dispute is over whether or not a COD has to be limited to one line, or if relevant factors revealed posthumously can be included. This other editor has told me to ... no, not that! ... check TOC, so I checked ], which did not resolve anything for me. Well, having worked at two VA hospitals and obsessed about death for many years now, I can assure you that CODs are often not simple at all, having potentially all sorts of complicated details. I pray you can enlighten me (us). Is mise le meas. ] (]) 22:53, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

I notice that you protected {{tl|db-move}} two years ago. Also, what exactly is the difference between the red protection lock and the gold protection lock? Both have identical log entries. — ] (] • ] • ]) 01:48, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
* From what I recall, all the template names have moved around in the two years since it was prot'd - it's been so long now that I can't recall all the details. It's customary to protect highly-transcluded templates such as this one as they're prime targets for vandalism. * Hi there. No, you did just great. When I saw that the editor started off light, got warnings then went to full-on oversight-type edits, I thought it best to just apply the brakes for a short while. Given the nature of the edits and comments made, it wasn't going to proceed well & oversight is costly in terms of everyone's time; both yours and mine. As an oversighter, I had to kinda make that call - ] ] 10:07, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

== ACC ==

Anyway, just for context, I was just short of 13 years old when that happened. Age-wise, I could see my parents maybe having some sort of filter on my computer, I'm pretty sure it was not some sort of computer virus. I never specifically asked them about it, my mom could get kind of reactive about things so I didn't want her assuming I was doing something inappropriate. The only thing I can think of on why it never recurred again is that they took internet away from that computer (for reasons that stretch outside of this conversation, nothing terrible though, mainly staying up too late and being lethargic at school) and they maybe never thought to do that again.

Today is Schoenberg's 150th birthday! On display his portrait by Egon Schiele, music from Moses und Aron, and two DYK hooks, one from 2010 and another from 2014; the latter, about his 40th birthday, appeared on his 140th birthday ;) - See places for a stunning sunrise, on the day Bruckner's 200th birthday was celebrated (just a few days late). -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:03, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

Reminder to participate in Misplaced Pages research

Hello,

I recently invited you to take a survey about administration on Misplaced Pages. If you haven’t yet had a chance, there is still time to participate– we’d truly appreciate your feedback. The survey is anonymous and should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement.

Take the survey here.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:05, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:User en-IE

A tag has been placed on Category:User en-IE indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz 06:40, 24 November 2024 (UTC)

Weird Censoring Issue from 2011

I know this is from over a decade ago, but I was looking at my contribution history and it made me think of the time when my browser was inexplicably censoring everything on your page and the page of User:Jolly Janner and you ended up having to be in the middle of it. Not sure if you even remember it occurring, but I thought you might be interested in hearing an update all these years later because it was so bizarre.

• Hey there, @Thebirdlover:. Yeah, it's been nearly 15 years since that incident. I can tell you what happened. Back then, I was an Oversighter, and had responsibilities for personally-identifying information and for children's privacy. Back then, you were a minor, and I was alerted to remove certain information from your user page for your own safety. It's usually done very discretely and even administrators can't see the edits. So that's what happened.

      • Yeah, I had no idea what happened there, and still don't. It looks like there was some weird censorware on your computer, as it wasn't retroactively censored on the WP side, from what I can see - Alison 19:30, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
