== Foreign language citation in English articles? ==
= January 12 = | |||
I was reading an English article and was unsatisfied with the amount of information, so I switched it to Spanish (a language I can read) and found a lot more info there. If I wanted to write some of that into the English article for those who can't read Spanish, would it be appropriate to still use the Spanish-language citations? ] (]) 02:34, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
== Usage of slang terms in editing articles ==
:Hi ]. The sources cited on English Misplaced Pages articles do not have to be written in English themselves. But if you wish to use them here, it is your responsibility to double-check that they actually do support the content you write. Sometimes a ref might be incorrect in one place, and then copied to somewhere else in a way that spreads the mistake even more widely. That happens even in English sources, but copying between different[REDACTED] sites seems to be more prone to it. ] (]) 02:38, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
:What {{U|DMacks}} says. Additionally, remember that a lack of information in an English-language article doesn't necessarily reflect a lack of English-language sources; it may instead reflect a lack of energy for looking for those English-language sources that do exist. -- ] (]) 02:42, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

== Citing CVs? == | |||
I would like to submit an article about an accounting company in Australia called Hall Chadwick. They have been ranked the fastest growing accounting firm in 2010 by "Business Review Weekly" (BRW) magazine. The company also has a number of high profile partners and staff who have been actively involved in the Austalian and Chinese media in the last year as Hall Chadwick partnered with the largest CPA firm in China: Shine Wing. These facts can be verified by BRW and numerous media articles online.

::This isn't my claim. My question is whether a CV can function as a citation for the kind of information that belongs in an article. ] (]) 13:21, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

:::A cite to the website or other publication of the awarding body might be better. :Hello, @]. There's not much point in putting warnings on IP talk pages anyway, unless there is evidence that the same person is using that IP for a period. But I certainly don't think there's any point in putting a high-level warning, even if the previous warning was only a couple of weeks ago, because it's unlikely that the same person will see it. :It's generally a bad idea to use internet translators to help you write Misplaced Pages articles in other languages. Internet translation is notoriously bad; its often good enough to give someone the general gist, but it often produces something that no native speaker would ever say. == phone keyboard constantly recentering the screen ==
Hi, I'm new here and a bit confused.
I am trying to edit pages on my Samsung S22 but opening the keyboard will forcefully recenter the screen every couple seconds, making it impossible to see what I'm typing. Sometimes it closes the keyboard entirely.
I work at a non-profit group called The European Library. They already have a page here on Misplaced Pages but it's very out of date. I want to help amend that (and left a message on the talk page to say so).
I'm aware of COI guidelines and want to do this correctly, with the community. Because there are so many changes, I decided I'd create a subset of my talk page, where I could draft some changes before presenting them to the community (see #2 under tips: http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Starting_an_article).
This problem persists even if I use the "desktop site" option in mobile. I'm using Firefox.
This was deleted overnight by an administrator because he said it duplicated the live page. I tried to leave a message on his talk page to clarify what I did wrong, but I got a message saying an "automated filter" had judged my reply to be unconstructive. So, now I have no article and I can't contact the person who deleted it to find out where I went wrong.
Any solutions? ] (]) 12:17, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

:@], Using Chrome on Android and been through that, but now i am the boss (''feeling so''). Basically i avoid that by going top again. Can you suggest how I would find his email?
If you add a category to your watchlist, it notifies you when pages are added to or removed from that category. The category history (View History tab) does not show this information, however, as it only includes changes to the category page itself. How would I see the history of additions/removals for any category (regardless of whether it is on my watchlist)? Is it available? If a category suddenly got bigger or smaller, it would be useful to see which pages had been added or removed. --] (]) 17:30, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
Is it not possible to just (somehow) be given permission to post on his talk page? I tried to post exactly the same message to him on his talk page that I put here (I wasn't rude or swearing - honest!!) but this "automated filter" said I was unconstructive and blocked me from contacting him.

Adding this article - http://en.wikipedia.org/Jared_Lee_Loughner - may present the problem of other mentally unstable individuals or groups committing horrific crimes, based solely on the idea that they can live in infamy and receive fame by receiving their own personalized autobiography on this and other sites. I suggest that you consider instead attaching only a very brief and simple description of this individual to the article on the horrific event. :You can make user subpages to keep track of things you are editing. This is useful if you start an editing task you cannot finish in one session, for example because you are waiting for someone else to reply. Misplaced Pages's talk pages lack any way to notify you when someone replies to a comment you left. You can only watch the whole talk page. If you are watching many talk pages, it can be difficult to find replies to your messages in the flood of other traffic on those pages. ] might someday help with this. :#Yes, but that's easy. If the prior link is named i.e., has the form <nowiki><ref name="name"></nowiki> at its start, all you need to do to cite it again is to copy and paste that beginning part of the citation code and add a closing slash, like so: <nowiki><ref name="name" /</nowiki>>. If the prior reference is not named (it starts with just <nowiki><ref></nowiki>), replace it with a named version in the form I just provided, <nowiki><ref name="name"></nowiki> (last name of author will do for the name to choose) and then follow what I said about using it again later on by adding a closing slash. Misplaced Pages is absolutely horrible. When I say that, I don't mean that the ''encyclopedic content's quality'' is terrible, just finding the right infobox, the right template, the right special page, the right policy, the right article--I was trying to find the article on the major T.D. Wikicode is confusing, unless you have been on-wiki for a month or two or more (I have been on here for six months, and ''yet'' I can't figure out how to make a picture as a thumbnail, unless I go to another article or ]. There are too many policies to follow--one about this, another conflicting policy about that, an un-understandable policy about something--even if it is a key policy. That second is presumably the one you want, but the problem is that Misplaced Pages has no way of knowing that (and there actually are other same/similar-named banks in the world apparently). Because I don't know which one I want, I picked match #1, which presents me with an index of all the TD banks, each listed with enough information to know where it is and/or what type of banking institution it is. Match #2 is indeed listed there. I'm curious what sort of system you envision (setting aside how to implement it for now) that would be more efficient or useful here. I tried '''T. D. Bank''' (notice space between "T." and "D."), which gave me all sorts of off-topic pages. But still, match #1 was ], which is a disambiguation page. == Abbreviations ==
I received a response (actually an accusation of vandalism) by abreviating the word hour or hours in pharmacokinetic information provided. The question was raised as to why I made the change. I did not know where or how to respond, hence using this site within Misplaced Pages.
Reasons: Accuracy, consistency and unambiguity are key factors to take into consideration for abbreviations. While 'hour' or 'hours' are good descriptors for time and are unambiguous, they are not consistent with other values provided within the information boxes for various drugs. For example, molecular mass is referred to as 'g/mol', density is 'g/cm3' (with superscript for cubed), 'mg/mL' for solubility and appropriate units for centigrade or farenheit. For consistency, if abbreviations are used for some measurements, then abbreviations should be used for all measurements, should standard abbreviations exist, for all measurements. Alternatively, if 'hour' or 'hours' are spelled out in full, then all other measurements should be spelled out in full (eg, degrees centigrade, milligrams per millilitre). My preference, for space considerations and clarity, is that standard abbreviations be used. Most international chemical and medical journals, for example, use standard abbreviations (including 'h' for 'hour' or 'hours'.
I object to the term 'vandalism' being used when I made an honest and appropriate attempt to apply some good sense to abbreviations used.
I hope that these comments are taken favourably. If I can be advised about the most appropriate link to make constructive comments in future, that would be appreciated. <small><span class="autosigned">— Preceding ] comment added by ] (] • ]) 03:19, 14 January 2011 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->
:hour is a short simple word known by all English speakers while h for hour is much less international standard than many other units. It's not an SI unit (unlike s for seconds), and many languages abbreviate to the first letter of hour in that language which is often not h (it's t in my Danish). The English Misplaced Pages has readers with many different native languages and backgrounds, and an isolated h can be confusing. See also ] which spells out hour except sometimes when it's part of a combined unit like km/h. I agree your edits were not vandalism but I don't think you should have continued without discussing it after the first warning which didn't say vandalism. ] (]) 03:45, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Visual editing would only help with ''how'' to type (and only slightly), not with ''what'' to type which is the real problem. Check out ] where you will see thousands of well-formatted articles receiving no quarter. Lots of people can easily figure out how to format articles on Misplaced Pages; in contrast, writing acceptable content eludes them, at least initially. Fiddling with the user interface will do almost nothing to spare the new user from having to read ] and absorbing their content. Building the world's largest encyclopedia is, I believe, a task which is irreducibly complex. Which means only the minority of people who are good at handling complexity will thrive as editors here. --] (]) 18:04, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
::::The problem is made worse, of course, by Misplaced Pages's ] nature. The set of people who could master Misplaced Pages editing if taught in a classroom setting is probably larger (perhaps ''much'' larger) than the set of people who can figure it out by reading manuals and trying things on their own. This is why civilization invented ]s. If Misplaced Pages wants to get even bigger (which would roughly amount to taking over the world, at least the world of online editing), Misplaced Pages might have to do what every other organization aiming for world domination does: set up its own network of schools, or attempt to infiltrate existing schools with its curriculum. --] (]) 18:13, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
::Side note to ''']''': the fact that all known WYSIWYG systems are inadequate platforms for mass collaboration does not mean no such platform could be adequate. But that's how I would bet. The same thing would be true if we were trying to teach everybody how to do almost any other complex task, such as piloting a ], playing ], or performing ]. No software technology can make those skills available to the novice yet. == Issue ==
Just a footnote in Misplaced Pages's "be bold when editing" statement. I was a fairly frequent editor, mainly reverting articles when people posted nonsense. I did add things here and there. But at one point I came upon an article I was contributing to, and a user -- not an admin, but someone who obviously wanted to be an admin -- reverted my edits. I re-added them, and he reverted them again, and had an editor friend of his lock down the article. When I approached the user I was treated in a nasty tone and was referred to as someone who didn't know what I was doing. When I approached the admin to ask what I did wrong and mentioned the user should have helped, not been nasty, he agreed with the user's choice of action, but never told me what I did wrong. I noticed that the user, after this altercation, went through all the articles I had edited, took out items and posted warnings on said pages.
Ever since that day, I have never edited a single article, nor have I contributed when Misplaced Pages asks for donations. Misplaced Pages admins should use a little better judgment and/or be chosen a little more wisely.
Thank you for your time. <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">—Preceding ] comment added by ] (]) 17:34, 14 January 2011 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

::"When I approached the admin ... he ... never told me what I did wrong." That is unfortunate if true. Every Misplaced Pages editor who reverts another editor should be able to cite the specific Misplaced Pages policy or guideline they are acting on (or think they are acting on). Ideally this should be in a ] in the ], to make the change self-documenting. However, not all administrators and other experienced editors are as informative as the typical Help desk volunteer. We will almost always link to the pages that describe whatever rules we are talking about. It's too bad that neither the editor you had a dispute with, nor the administrator who sided against you, referred you to this Help desk for an explanation. Since you posted without logging in, we cannot be sure that ] shows your edits (IP addresses can be shared by multiple users, and you may have edited under other IP addresses). However, that Contributions page shows a string of edits to articles about ]. If you have edited Misplaced Pages's global warming articles, note that the topic arouses considerable political controversy (the underlying science is much less controversial among climate scientists themselves). If you want to wade into that arena on Misplaced Pages and edit productively, you're going to have to read a lot more of Misplaced Pages's instruction manuals than a person who ] has probably read. The only way for Misplaced Pages to let anyone edit, without causing Misplaced Pages to descend into utter chaos, is to have highly detailed explicit rules that we can all follow. Ignoring Misplaced Pages's rules almost always works against an editor. --] (]) 21:34, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Foreign language citation in English articles?
I was reading an English article and was unsatisfied with the amount of information, so I switched it to Spanish (a language I can read) and found a lot more info there. If I wanted to write some of that into the English article for those who can't read Spanish, would it be appropriate to still use the Spanish-language citations? Qqars (talk) 02:34, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Qqars. DMacks (talk) 02:38, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- What DMacks says. Additionally, remember that a lack of information in an English-language article doesn't necessarily reflect a lack of English-language sources; it may instead reflect a lack of energy for looking for those English-language sources that do exist. -- Hoary (talk) 02:42, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Qqars: I would encourage the use of the trans-title parameter when citing a non-English source. Fabrickator (talk) 06:53, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
Content of a filmography
I'm looking at the page of a director and their filmography a number of items described as "documentary installation" which I assume are a form of video installation. Do these belong on a filmography? The filmography also contains standard films. Also, this filmography contains a number of short films for which I can find few, if any sources. Do items on a filmography have to be notable? Truthnope (talk) 04:12, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Can you give us a link to the page ? Anatole-berthe (talk) 09:00, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Tina Gharavi. For full disclosure, the IP address that made the recent edits on that page are mine. I only started using this account recently. Truthnope (talk) 09:34, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- I don't know if there are an official policy about cite films that aren't notable in the filmography of someone who is notable. Anatole-berthe (talk) 10:17, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

IMO, filmography entries don't have to be notable. I've added shorts lacking articles just for completeness. I'm not so sure about documentary installations, whatever those are. Clarityfiend (talk) 04:24, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

Citing CVs?
For biographies of academics, is their CV considered sufficient to cite for things like editor positions or honors? Mcavoybickford (talk) 12:51, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Per WP:PROPORTION, just because something is on their CV, it shouldn't necessarily be in the WP-article. See also WP:ABOUTSELF. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:07, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- This isn't my claim. My question is whether a CV can function as a citation for the kind of information that belongs in an article. Mcavoybickford (talk) 13:21, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, @Mcavoybickford. Non-independent sources may be cited for certain kinds of information - see WP:SPS. They do not contribute to establishing notability, and the existence of a source is only one of the considerations which goes into decideing whether a matter should be mentioned in an article or not. ColinFine (talk) 15:23, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- A cite to the website or other publication of the awarding body might be better. That provides a way for readers ro learn about the context of the award, which can be important because sometimes different awards have similar names for various reasons and a CV entry might not use a precise enough wording to prevent confusion. Vandal templates on shared IPs
Hello, I have tagged 92.43.71.70 with {{uw-vandalism4}}
after a recent unexplained blanking. I noticed the talk page is flush with historical warnings, but it seems like users would start back from 1 each time. Am I using the template incorrectly (i.e. since 5 years have passed, just start back at 1)? I was under the impression we use the next template in the sequence from whatever is on the page already (assuming no intermediary intervention/discussion). Perhaps proxy accounts have special status? Tule-hog (talk) 18:40, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, @Tule-hog. There's not much point in putting warnings on IP talk pages anyway, unless there is evidence that the same person is using that IP for a period. But I certainly don't think there's any point in putting a high-level warning, even if the previous warning was only a couple of weeks ago, because it's unlikely that the same person will see it. (Do IPs even get notified of messages on their talk pages? I don't know). ColinFine (talk) 19:31, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for reply. In future on IP talk pages lacking evidence of same person throughout, I will only increase vandal template warning if within the same month and I won't go higher than 3. (Template has been useful for me in past as quick check if other users have undone edits that didn't get marked 'Reverted' upon fix.) I took this case to WP:AIV as all edits appear consistently WP:NOTHERE. Tule-hog (talk) 20:53, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
Name correction
Greetings everyone. How do I correct the name of a person on Misplaced Pages? I am able to edit the body but have not figured out how to change the main page name. Thank you Aaronlouis1 (talk) 19:33, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, @Aaronlouis1. The direct answer to your question is by moving the article. But you should on no account be editing an article about yourself: the most you should do is make a suggestion for change. Please see WP:AUTOPROB. ColinFine (talk) 19:44, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- You may request a page move at Requested moves. Note that Misplaced Pages does not necessarily use legal or official names as article titles, but the most commonly used name, see WP:COMMONNAME.
- Please read WP:AUTO before attempting to edit about yourself. 331dot (talk) 19:46, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

- Srbernadette Fixed, you had written the year in the access date as "20025". Respectfully, you make this specific error quite often; you probably just hit the zero twice by accident. When this happens the red message says "check date values in accces-date", to identify where exactly the issue is. 331dot (talk) 07:08, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- On the phenomenon of the frequent occurrence of specific kinds of error, Srbernadette: On 12 October, Tenryuu suggested to you that "you should consider writing down what other editors have been saying so that you have a 'common mistakes made' note that you can reference to the side of whatever device you're using." If you didn't implement that then, perhaps you could implement it now. -- Hoary (talk) 11:09, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

phone keyboard constantly recentering the screen
I am trying to edit pages on my Samsung S22 but opening the keyboard will forcefully recenter the screen every couple seconds, making it impossible to see what I'm typing. Sometimes it closes the keyboard entirely.
This problem persists even if I use the "desktop site" option in mobile. I'm using Firefox.
Any solutions? Scuttlebug Jam (talk) 12:17, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

- I have the same problem with Firefox while using other websites. I think it's Firefox's issue. Tutwakhamoe (talk) 15:19, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Scuttlebug Jam, Using Chrome on Android and been through that, but now i am the boss (feeling so). Basically i avoid that by going top again. Ok, simply whenever i enter something, that text hide itself and next line appear at top most screen, at that moment i just scroll to top of the screen (top of the section) and then again scroll to that particular line, and guess what - no issue. try once.––kemel49 17:01, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
Category history
If you add a category to your watchlist, it notifies you when pages are added to or removed from that category. The category history (View History tab) does not show this information, however, as it only includes changes to the category page itself. How would I see the history of additions/removals for any category (regardless of whether it is on my watchlist)? Is it available? If a category suddenly got bigger or smaller, it would be useful to see which pages had been added or removed. --Jameboy (talk) 17:30, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

Image
While visiting the page This Must Be the Place (film), I noticed this image: . The source says "Facebook" but the link is not accessible: . The image caption states: "Teaser poster of This Must Be the Place"; but a reverse Google Image brings up Pinterest Paper Cuts of similar sayings: . I'm not sure how to put up an image for deletion; but I think this is not what it purports to be. Maineartists (talk) 23:24, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- Is there another, more stable source (there are usually those that hold images of film posters)? Generally, this would go to Files for discussion or Deletion requests on Commons. But preferably look for one that is fair use. 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 23:38, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- OK. Thanks. Taking it to Deletion requests on Commons. This is not a poster for the film ("early" or otherwise). Obviously this was a hoax of some sorts. Maineartists (talk) 00:00, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
This was much harder than I expected. WP does not make it easy to simply place an image up for requested deletion! Yeesh! I placed the required template on the image page here: , but from there on it's just a big mess. As instructed: and then listed: ; but it does not seem to be correct. I have successfully placed several articles up for AfD but this one threw me. What did I do wrong? TIA. Maineartists (talk) 00:36, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Maineartists: The file is uploaded at the English Misplaced Pages (because it's non-free) and not Commons so a deletion discussion should be here and not at Commons. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:51, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Maineartists, I suggest that you reverse your edits so far and follow the process at Misplaced Pages:Files for discussion. TSventon (talk) 01:06, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Already done. I was only following the advice / directions given above. Guess I should have gone to FfD first. Thank you, TSventon for linking the process. I had no idea what "so a deletion discussion should be here" meant. Heading there now. This was a first for me. Now I know. Maineartists (talk) 01:13, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Maineartists: it's confusing if you are not a copyright expert (neither am I). You are more likely to get specialist advice at Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. TSventon (talk) 01:23, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. This one had nothing to do with copyright. The image was not what it purported it to be: . The uploader has a history of uploading questionable images to WP with numerous deletions and violations in their history; without any response on their Talk Page to notifications. The image in question has been removed from the article and successfully placed for FfD. Thanks again. Maineartists (talk) 01:31, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Default alt text for image not appearing in article
As you can see I added alt text to the structured data of https://commons.wikimedia.org/File:Greenhouse_gas_emission_and_absorption_by_Turkey.svg
But when I use https://www.w3.org/WAI/test-evaluate/easy-checks/image-alt/ to check
I cannot see it.
This is the first time I tried to use default alt text so perhaps I have missed something? Chidgk1 (talk) 06:40, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- I don't think you can add alt text to the image itself (i.e., on commons). Alt text is used in an article when you add the image. Otherwise all the different Wikipedias would be stuck with the same wording and language for the alt text. Meters (talk) 07:27, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- See MOS:ALT Meters (talk) 07:29, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Meters Thanks for those links but I am still confused. I already have added English alt text to the image itself (i.e., on commons) - that is not a problem and as it is labelled as "English" I presume other language Wikipedias will not use it but could also add text in their own languages. You can see it on the image link above by clicking "structured data" and scrolling to the bottom of the structured data. My problem is that the text is not appearing when I use the image on Misplaced Pages. Chidgk1 (talk) 14:23, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Chidgk1: The image used in Greenhouse_gas_emissions_by_Turkey#Monitoring,_reporting_and_verification is kept on this English wiki at Greenhouse_gas_emissions_by_Turkey#/media/File:Greenhouse_gas_emission_and_absorption_by_Turkey.svg, not on Commons.
- Regardless of where it is kept, the image in the article will only have alt text if an
alt=
has been included in itsfile
statement. For the article concerned, there is noalt=
parameter: ] can take out. There is some correlation with the ], such as a dip during the ].]]
- You need to add an
alt=
parameter. You can refer to MOS:IMAGESYNTAX for an example. - The above will apply regardless of where the image is kept.
- Note that the alt text should describe what the image is, not the graph's contents. So, for example, "A graph showing the levels of greenhouse gas emissions and absorptions in Turkey from 1990 to 2022.". If the data shown by the graphs in the article is important to the article's readers, then separate tables of the data ought to be included the article, as stipulated by MOS:TEXTASIMAGES. Bazza 7 (talk) 14:47, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks I understand how to set the alt text manually for each article. But the reason I would like this default is because I quite often use the same image in different articles so it would save me (and hopefully other people) cutting and pasting alt text.
- The default alt text I used was set up by https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T166094 which is now closed.
- Whereas the request for default alt text at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T21906 is still open.
- But I don’t understand the difference. Can anyone explain in simple terms? Chidgk1 (talk) 16:32, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
i want to post my content in draft
I am planning to edit my Misplaced Pages content based on the guidelines, but I am unsure how to move it to the draft space. Julynoeh (talk) 07:05, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- It can simply be moved to the draft space by any autoconfirmed user, which you are. See WP:MOVE, but if you mean your content in User:Julynoeh/sandbox, there's little point moving it to Draft. That draft has already been rejected by User:Rusalkii, not just declined, and a rejected draft usually should not be resubmitted. See WP:AFCREVIEW Meters (talk) 07:21, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Julynoeh As you must know, since you Wikilinked it, there is an existing article at Over-the-air update. If you have any content from your draft that is reliably sourced and relevant, you could add it to that article. Use your own words to paraphrase the sources you cite, not chatbots. Inter-language Links in Coding for the German and French Misplaced Pages Severs.
I know how to write an inter-language link to produce a broken link in an English article to a page that does not exist on the English server, but does exist in a foreign language Misplaced Pages server:
French:{{ill|Conann|lt=Conann|fr|Conann (film)}}, i.e. Conann
German:{{ill|Conann|lt=Meeples' Choice Award|de|Meeples' Choice Award}}, i.e. Meeples' Choice Award
However, I would like to know the reciprocal German and French coding to do the same thing, i.e. link to a Misplaced Pages article that does not exist on that respective language Misplaced Pages server, i.e. the French or German server, but does exist in the English server:
French: ?
German: ?
Does anyone know if such coding exists and whether there are help pages on the French and German server for this coding? SMargan (talk) 08:55, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @SMargan: you can check the Wikidata item d:Q13606208. fr:Modèle:Lien exists, but no de equivalent. You could ask at de:Misplaced Pages:Fragen zur Misplaced Pages whether they have anything similar. TSventon (talk) 09:17, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

- @TSventon: TSventon (talk) Thanks for the clarification! You have been a great help. I found this coding on the German server {{#interlanguagelink:en|Friedrich Schiller}}, however, it just seemed to produce no text at all. Now that you have told me that there is no comparative German coding, I will stop looking. SMargan (talk) 11:41, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @TSventon: TSventon (talk) Sorry to bother you again, but is there a Inter-language Link coding for the Spanish language server as well? SMargan (talk) 11:41, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, @SMargan. The Wikidata item d:Q13606208 (which TSventon linked to) has an es-wiki link to es:Plantilla:Enlace interlingüístico. Whether or not it has the same functionality as {{ill}} I don't know. ColinFine (talk) 11:54, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- If you add {{#interlanguagelink:en|Friedrich Schiller}} it is the same as ] and changes the en link under In anderen Sprachen to en:Friedrich Schiller. If you were allowed to link the article you would add a colon ]. TSventon (talk) 12:00, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Request for Guidance on Article Review
Hello Team,
I have been submitting the article for review for the past three days, but it is still showing as a draft, with no violations indicated on the talk page. Following Misplaced Pages guidelines, I disclosed that this is a paid contribution and added the following statement to my user page:
"This user, in accordance with the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use, discloses that they have been paid by ZAPTA Technologies on behalf of Nasir Ali for their contributions to Misplaced Pages."
I have published this article without any charges. Could you please advise on the next steps?
Best regards,

- @Taching1989 I have added the template which will allow you to submit the draft for review. Before you do, find a better source for citation #1. You use Crunchbase, which is deprecated (see the link). Are you sure your draft shows how the company meets our notability criteria for companies? Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:48, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Translation: Editing an image I created for the Portuguese Misplaced Pages on the English Misplaced Pages
I created and edited on the pt:Terno pitagórico (Pythagorean Triad) page of the Portuguese Language Misplaced Pages a geometric image of my own for the understanding of my edition "Deduction of the algebraic equations of the Pythagorean trio from geometry". I need to upload this image for editing on the Pythagorean Triple page of the English Misplaced Pages, and I have tried in several ways and have not been able to, for this reason I have not been able to edit it. When I uploaded the image in the Portuguese edition I put it as a free image for use. I'm waiting for guidance so I can upload the image and get my edit on the English Misplaced Pages. (via Google translate) TSventon (talk) 12:06, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Gonzagalaier Please use English when posing a question here. The file you wish to use appears to be File:Deduction pythagorean triple equations by geometry.png, which is on Commons and can therefore be incorporated into articles on en:Misplaced Pages as explained at Help:Pictures. However, I suspect that its use will be controversial, so you should probably discuss this on the article's Talk Page at Talk:Pythagorean triple. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:16, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Deleting my contributions
How do I go about deleting all my contributions in wikipedia? Clp69 (talk) 18:02, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Clp69 You can revert the contributions you have made but they will not be deleted from the edit history of any article and may be restored by other editors. When you add any content to Misplaced Pages, you irrevocably license it CC BY SA 4.0, as it says when you publish/save any edit. Mike Turnbull (talk) 18:14, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Your contributions cannot be deleted, but if referring to vanishing, see this for how to properly do that. We’re sorry if there are any complications you’ve had here. 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 18:15, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Clp69 Furthermore, every time you edited Misplaced Pages you were clearly told that you
agree to irrevocably release your text under the CC BY-SA 4.0 License and GFDL
. Shantavira| 09:56, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- If you can explain why a particular contribution is not correct or inappropriate, please do so on the article's talk page, citing any relevant sources, and the material will be deleted. However, if the contribution is useful and encyclopedic, it will be retained in the article, because our contributions are not "ours", they are part of the free content on Misplaced Pages. -- Ssilvers (talk) 15:21, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
Creating an article
Dear Misplaced Pages: I'm the librarian for Waterford High School (CT). The Athletic Director put together a history of the athletics program from when the school opened in 1956 to the present day. I foolishly (bravely?) suggested I would make a Misplaced Pages page out of the information and link it to the school's page. And now, of course, I have no idea what I am doing. Is there a primer that could walk me through the process? Should I find a copy of Misplaced Pages for Dummies? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Matt Cadorette, Librarian, Waterford High School Waterford, CT Mcadorette (talk) 18:22, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, @Mcadorette, and welcome to the Teahouse.
- In addition to the good advice given by 2601, My earnest advice to new editors is to not even think about trying to create an article until you have spent several weeks - at least - learning about how Misplaced Pages works by making improvements to existing articles. Once you have understood core policies such as verifiability, neutral point of view, reliable, independent sources, and notability, and experienced how we handle disagreements with other editors (the Bold, Revert, Discuss cycle), then you might be ready to read your first article carefully, and try creating a draft. ColinFine (talk) 21:53, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Thank you.A Wizard is available to walk you through these steps. See the Article Wizard.
- Before creating an article, please search Misplaced Pages first to make sure that an article does not already exist on the subject. Please also review a few of our relevant policies and guidelines with which all articles should comply. As Misplaced Pages is an encyclopedia, articles must not contain original research, must be written from a neutral point of view, should cite reliable sources which verify their content and must not contain unsourced, negative content about living people.
- Articles must also demonstrate the notability of the subject. Please see our subject specific guidelines for people, bands and musicians, companies and organizations and web content and note that if you are closely associated with the subject, our conflict of interest guideline strongly recommends against you creating the article.
- If you still think an article is appropriate, see Misplaced Pages:Your first article. You might also look at Misplaced Pages:How to write a great article for guidance, and please consider taking a tour through the Misplaced Pages:Tutorial so that you know how to properly format the article before creation. An Article Wizard is also available to walk you through creating an article. 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 18:25, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Category:Mass murderers
I was going to post at Category talk:Mass murderers, but there was a note recommending I post here instead. The Category:Mass murderers doesn't seem to have a clear inclusion criteria. Is it all individuals who have killed 3 or more people without a cooling off period? Do they need to have been convicted in court for murder? Is it mainly for mass shooting/mass stabbing, or do bombings count? Do they need to have committed the act themselves, or can they be included if they ordered or masterminded the killings? what
What if blocked IPs edit with a proxy? Is it okay if they only do good edits? Gnu779 ( talk) 12:43, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Gnu779 Does Misplaced Pages:Open proxies answer your question? Shantavira| 13:13, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- Gnu779, block evasion by any technique is not permitted. It is the human being who is blocked, and blocking their most recent IP address is just the enforcement mechanism. Cullen328 (talk) 17:40, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
Creating a talk page for Sicilian business
Hey, y'all. I created the article Sicilian business a few months ago and I've been meaning to take it through PR. Can someone help me create a talk page and sort it under its appropriate WikiProjects so I can get this process started? I've brought several articles to PR before, but I've never had the issue of there not being a talk page! Thanks. Unlimitedlead (talk) 17:24, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- Surprisingly easy: Have a look at this guide for information on how to do so. 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 17:27, 23 January 2025 (UTC)

Amending existing edit request or making an additional one?
If I have a pending edit request on an extended-confirmed-protected page, and I have an additional edit to request, should I edit the talk page to add it to the existing edit request, or initiate a new edit request? Kenfree (talk) 20:56, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- If the new edit request is unrelated to the initial one I might make it a second request to avoid mixed responses (Yes to the first, No to the second). If it's related and nobody's responded to the initial request yet, I'd likely amend it. Hope this helps! DonIago (talk) 21:02, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- If you do edit your initial request, you should probably note that somewhere to avoid confusion from anyone who may have read the initial request. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 22:08, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
Issue With "Edits" Page Following A Limitation and Uninstallment of Misplaced Pages
Dear Misplaced Pages Support,
I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to seek assistance regarding an issue with my Misplaced Pages account, Brennan2013.
The issue began after my edits to the articles Jonathan the Tortoise and other elderly tortoises were reverted by another user. Soon after, I noticed that my contributions page became restricted, displaying the message:
"Suggested edits is disabled. Sorry Brennan2013, too many of your recent contributions have been reverted."
For context:
- I initially downloaded and installed the Misplaced Pages mobile app through the Google Play Store in late December 2024. Since then, I’ve primarily used my Android Onn. Tablet to read and edit articles on Misplaced Pages.
- After encountering this restriction, I uninstalled the app in frustration.
- Today (Thursday, January 23, 2025), I reinstalled the app through the Google Play Store and logged into my account, only to find that the issue persists.
Editing Misplaced Pages has always been an enjoyable and educational experience for me. I strive to make meaningful contributions and was disappointed to see that my access to the contributions page and suggested edits remains restricted. I am unsure whether this limitation is still active due to the reverted edits or if uninstalling and reinstalling the app has affected my account.
Could you please provide more information about the current status of my account? Is the restriction temporary, or do additional steps need to be taken to restore full access?
Either way, I will continue to enjoy reading and editing on Misplaced Pages, as it remains one of my favorite platforms. Thank you for the incredible resource that Misplaced Pages provides and for all the work you do to maintain it.
I greatly appreciate your time and support, and I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Brennan2013 Brennan2013 (talk) 23:37, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Brennan2013:, suggested edits is part of Misplaced Pages:Growth Team features. If you don't get a detailed answer here, you could ask at the talk page there. A couple of sentences quoting the message you got should be sufficient, I don't think deinstalling the app is relevant.
- It is a well known issue that new users often don't know much about how Misplaced Pages works, so they often make mistakes when they start editing. TSventon (talk) 01:10, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
