Kitale is a town in the north west of Kenya, in the former Rift Valley province, between Mount Elgon and the Cherangany Hills. It has an elevation of around 1900 metres (6200 ft). Its population was 162174 as of 2019. It is the location of Kitale Airport.

The National Museum of Western Kenya in Kitale is a natural history museum.

History

In 1920 Arthur Champion, the colonial district commissioner, established a new headquarters in the Trans Nzoia at the future sure of the township of Kitale.
