Discussion

I usually drop in to update this section once a day, so I thought I'd share my routine. First, I move completed AfDs down, and then look for new ones. When I find a Webcomic-related article on AfD, I will list it here, no matter how obscure, so long as I can find a site for it. With the exception of those that have retired, I don't add AfDs for webcomics without a verifiable internet presence. It ain't a webcomic without the web, after all. I also don't bother with the "Articles that may need a vote for deletion" talk section. If someone of a more deletionist bent would like to look after it, be my guest. –Abe Dashiell 16:18, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

For WP:PROD nominations, if the {{prod}} is removed, I just take it off the list. Only if the article is actually deleted do I put it in the "Articles that have been nominated for deletion" section. –Abe Dashiell 20:34, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

I've removed the "Articles that may need a vote for deletion" section. This was basically an early version of WP:PROD, and now that PROD has gone site-wide this seemed redundant. -- Dragonfiend 21:01, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

I've added a note about making it transparent when something is added to this list. This is what's done for the Australian wikipedians notice board, for example. - brenneman 03:10, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

I was surprised to see SpinnWebe marked as webcomics/deletion: it's not a webcomic. If there's actually a listing for it, it should be removed from the wikiproject webcomics list in any case, regardless of the future of the SpinnWebe article itself. --Spinn 23:14, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

When to archive?

How long do you think we should we keep deletion nominations on the main page? I arbitrarily chose the new year for the cut-off date, which was a little over around two a months and a half, but I'm not attached to that length. Personally, I'd rather we keep the deletion section fairly small. It was the largest single section on the project before, and I didn't like the impression that left. Before the recent spate of deletion nominations, I was thinking three months, but now, two sounds better. Maybe even less. I suppose we could also decide on a rough number of entries to list and just archive the older ones when it gets larger than that. Anyway, now that appears people are looking at this document, I wanted to throw out the question. –Abe Dashiell 06:06, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

I really hate this

I agree that webcomics should be notable in some manner but the strict ruling is stupid. THe comic I submitted was notable because it was the source of the much of the sense of humour of an entire web community consisting of several large to very large messageboards, but people didn't even seem to read the damn article since they think that i write the comic(I have a girls name, the author's name is Patrick, I'm feeling rather insulted now).

Comixpedia is also currently down and not the most reliable resource. There are so few "spam" comics anyway I don't see what the harm is in loosing the qualifications.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kittie Rose (talk • contribs) .

• It is unfortunate that for so many new contributors, article deletion is their first taste of Misplaced Pages. It was for me as well, and I didn't like it much, either. I agree the snarkiness of some of the AfD veterans and their tendency to me-too vote is tiresome. Accusations of vanity, in particular, are thrown about far too liberally. However, to be blunt, your retaliation against Xyzzyplugh was totally unacceptable. He wasn't even one of those who accused you of vanity, and there was nothing in his proposal that could be interpreted as a personal attack. Yet you specifically went after him. • I have got to agree, the rules on here are way too strict. Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal was certainly a notable webcomic, it's part of a major comic collective and is linked by many major websites, but because I couldn't find any articles (mostly because I suck at that sort of thing) the article was deleted. There are too many delete-happy users on here, and there needs to be some kind of adjustment to the rules. It's getting to the point where comics that are well-deserving of an article are being deleted because someone couldn't defend it according to these strict rules fast enough. -- Zaron 18:11, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

In any case, this is not a good place to discuss notability. This is just a project page to record webcomic-related deletion nominations. Though I don't subscribe to the opinion that a webcomic is just another web site, discussions about webcomic notability nevertheless take place on WP:WEB's talk page. We used to hold them within the webcomic wikiproject, but we didn't get much buy-in from other AfD participants. You may not like WP:WEB now, but at least we don't have people declaring delete all webcomics on AfDs anymore. –Abe Dashiell 19:14, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

About PROD

As long as the toolserver isn't available to en, keeping track of WP:PROD nominations will be a pain in the ass. With Category:Proposed deletion, you can find out when an article has been prodded, but it takes a lot more work to find out why or what it's about. I'll continue using prod and posting them here, but I doubt I'll notice the prods of anyone else unless they're for articles on my watchlist. I've got everything on the list watched, but of course that doesn't cover orphans. –Abe Dashiell 15:52, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

• Even though the toolserver is still not available in a reliable fashion to enwiki, there's a bot that more or less duplicates what it originally did for PROD. You can view its summary at User:DumbBOT/ProdSummary, which has a shortcut at WP:PRODSUM. –Abe Dashiell 17:13, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
