== To-do: red plastic gas cans ==
These things are ubiquitous in the US (or at least any part I've been to) but we don't have an article on them. Like, I've only ever seen three consistent models (each different sizes of the same basic pattern) and looking online, it looks like those are the only three models that have been allowed since the gas crisis in the '70s.{{or|date=October 2018}}
I've got a lot of other things on my plate, but I think these might be sufficient sources for someone (me, anyone else, whoever) to write up an article on them:
* | |||
* | |||
* | |||
* | |||
* | |||
* | |||
* | |||
* | |||
* | |||
The last source definitely doesn't establish ] and I'd normally be wary of anyone insisting that it be used. Still, I think they also discuss regulatory info and maybe manufacturing history. Given the news sources (all of which are "oh shit, these things are exploding again" and "please stop doing things to make them explode"), I think it's safe to say that its inclusion probably won't amount to promotion.
I'm not sure that this would accomplish much more than a stub, at least with my usual "summarize, paraphrase, combine overlapping statements" approach. ] (]) 22:21, 12 October 2018 (UTC)
:I saw this up in your table of contents. Those damned things are a colossal nuisance , I finally found a brand that allows better control of flow and doesn't end up slopping gas all over the lawnmower, generator, or tiller. The mesh screen appears nowadays to be broadly used. They also come in yellow for diesel and blue for kerosene. '''<span style="font-family: Arial;">] <small>]</small></span>''' 01:19, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
::I am remembering my dad using blue barrels made of the same material for kerosene back when we had a space heater but yeah, I do see the same design in blue and yellow. (I think he got them on sale, I'm not sure I've seen them in stores ever again, and boy hell were they trouble to get rid of). Guess I need to look for sources on the diesel and kerosene ones and figure out what the industry name is for this family of cans. They're not ]s (which is where ] currently redirects): they're broader, have a handle on the back, and the stamping on the sides is just embossed warning text (not a structural feature). (I'm sure you know but other talk page watchers who haven't opened the links might be wondering why I want to reinvent the Jerrycan).
::There's another gas can design that I'm seeing, "Safety gas cans," which I suppose needs to be written about as well. Basically squat half-capsule mini-barrels with a handle and spout on the flatly rounded top. They're why I haven't just made "gas can" about the red plastic ones, since we really need "gas can" to be a disambig between the standard plastic, the Jerrycan, and the safety gas cans. Thanks for helping me realize that. ] (]) 01:38, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
:::I'm accumulating a museum of gas cans. I got two of the safety cans after squirrels started eating the plastic ones. After that generation of squirrels died they seem to have stopped munching plastic and confine themselves to the house, so now I have some plastic ones that are easier to handle, and a yellow one in case we run out of heating oil - I can get off-road diesel and use that in a pinch. I think ] is a safe generic term. '''<span style="font-family: Arial;">] <small>]</small></span>''' 01:49, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

== How we will see unregistered users ==
<section begin=content/>
Hi! | |||
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin '''will still be able to access the IP'''. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on ] to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can ]. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can ] to ].
We have ] this identity could work. '''We would appreciate your feedback''' on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can ]. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thanks to Misplaced Pages, I got to see alt-right talking points identified as such well before they became a part of mainstream conversation. Offline individuals who I trusted and respected started hinting at these talking points more and more. Pretty much every attempt to show them the source and goal of those ideas only stalled things at best. When politicians aren't stirring up the alt-right, they're defending those who stir them up, or defending those who defend the pandering, or saying we need to cooperate with those who are ultimately defending the alt-right. And the number of users I've seen hounded for saying ] is dismaying. Shame on the shriveled, minuscule, impotent souls whose petty grudges push them to defend fascism just to score points against someone. If the number is originally written literally as exakosia exinta exi, then it is difficult to have scribal errors. It is more likely written in three letters.
Most scribal errors occur in the middle letter. If it was upper case it is Ξ which is much more clear than the lower case ξ. This makes me believe that the number, the very original number written by John was χξς. {{unsigned|79.166.123.7}}

I recently tried to remove some content on the Angels page regarding the views on angels in Islam. A disproportionate amount of inforation is left in the form of a poem . The poem in outright conflict with mainstream Islamic teachings, I am not against different groups expressing their teachings on the subject, I do however want to avoid people gaining an understanding of Angels in Islam wholly different to what the majority of Muslims believe. I do not intend to censor said information, just that it is in the wrong place. It should be on the Islamic view of angels page so that a more wholistic view of Angels in Islam is presented instead, with the different views on the aforementioned page.

Have you got a source which confirms Pierre Teilhard de Chardin racial origin views? I have read that he belived in evolutionary polygenism, it seems many websites seem to be saying this but apparently the websites are not valid enough, there seems to be many websites attacking teilhards beliefs. Apparently theres some stuff he wrote on it himself in his book "The Phenomenon of Man", i don't have the exact line but apparently he belived different races evolved off different primates, and that the Adam and Eve story was not literal to him, and that he actually believed in more than one Adam.

'''Angels''' I am just a 57 yr old physician who is well read and I tried to comment on the Angels site but did not know how. I am amazed that the whole angels wiki does not mention the Sumerians. The oldest recorded description of angels is Sumerian. I saw a clay Sumerian angel in a Beijing museum that was dated 4000 BC, that got me more interested in Sumerian civilization. When I found out that the Sumerian great flood story was almost identical to the Jewish story I was amazed. But then everything fell into place when I learned that Abraham was Sumerian, and took his group of people east. When one religion spins off another, it usually takes with it a lot of the old religion. I found this to be true in all of the religions I have studied. The Sumerian mythology predates the Egyptian beliefs and there are too many similarities to call it all coincidence. There is solid evidence that trade existed between Sumer and Egypt before Egypt became a major civilization. Depictions of winged humans from Sumer and Egypt often look identical. The wikipedia site on angels needs to be rewritten. It took me only ten minutes to find a better site on angels. I like wikipedia and I hope you can get someone to correct this. http://www.feedback.nildram.co.uk/richardebbs/essays/angels.htm Dr. Don Woods

:Unfortunately, that website does not meet our ]. What we really need are citations from books. While Judaism did inherit stuff from Sumeria, the Sumerians don't appear to have applied the name or title "messenger" to their creatures, which is kinda what makes an angel an angel instead of a minor god. Misplaced Pages does not care about you or me being qualified scholars. Misplaced Pages is not a scholarly site, but a summary of sources that speak for themselves. We all have the right to edit, but there are rules to make sure that proper sources are used for appropriate articles and editors are civil. -- In other words: duh only book-lurnin we likes 's frum books, not school-folk wit deir fancy-shmancy deeplomas. To-do: red plastic gas cans
These things are ubiquitous in the US (or at least any part I've been to) but we don't have an article on them. Like, I've only ever seen three consistent models (each different sizes of the same basic pattern) and looking online, it looks like those are the only three models that have been allowed since the gas crisis in the '70s.
I've got a lot of other things on my plate, but I think these might be sufficient sources for someone (me, anyone else, whoever) to write up an article on them:
- News article
- News article
- News article
- News article
- News article
- Gov't regulation document
- Gov't regulation document
- Gov't regulation document
- "Non-Profit" run by the companies that make these things (haven't actually read through and found specific pages yet)
The last source definitely doesn't establish WP:NOTE and I'd normally be wary of anyone insisting that it be used.
Ian.thomson (talk) 22:21, 12 October 2018 (UTC)
- I saw this up in your table of contents. Those damned things are a colossal nuisance , I finally found a brand that allows better control of flow and doesn't end up slopping gas all over the lawnmower, generator, or tiller. The mesh screen appears nowadays to be broadly used. They also come in yellow for diesel and blue for kerosene. Acroterion (talk) 01:19, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
- I am remembering my dad using blue barrels made of the same material for kerosene back when we had a space heater but yeah, I do see the same design in blue and yellow. (I think he got them on sale, I'm not sure I've seen them in stores ever again, and boy hell were they trouble to get rid of). Guess I need to look for sources on the diesel and kerosene ones and figure out what the industry name is for this family of cans. They're not Jerrycans (which is where gas can currently redirects): they're broader, have a handle on the back, and the stamping on the sides is just embossed warning text (not a structural feature). (I'm sure you know but other talk page watchers who haven't opened the links might be wondering why I want to reinvent the Jerrycan).
- There's another gas can design that I'm seeing, "Safety gas cans," which I suppose needs to be written about as well. Ian.thomson (talk) 01:38, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
- I'm accumulating a museum of gas cans. I think fuel container is a safe generic term. Acroterion (talk) 01:49, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
- I guess maybe a redirect to Bin bag would suffice? Ian.thomson (talk) 23:10, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
Wikibreak
I should have announced this sooner but it just kinda crept up on me. Between various issues (less prep time at work, trying to affordably diet and exercise better), I've just not had enough energy when I'm home beyond what I need to get ready for the next work day or upcoming week.
I've bought some sources to expand articles on Goetic demons, though. I may work some on that without fully coming off of the Wikibreak. Ian.thomson (talk) 23:10, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Ian - we haven't interacted much, so sorry for coming out of the blue, but I wanted to tell you that when I was in my 'I have an account, but I mostly just read stuff without commenting' stage, your contributions were a real inspiration for me to actually get involved. You were one of the most active editors on some of the pages I was interested in, and I saw your name come up time and again attached to sensible, rational comments. So, yeah - I'm a fan.
- Anyone deserves and can self-award a break whenever they want to; I'd suggest that you have definitely earned one if you feel like it, and should take as long as you need/want. If you want to do some article-writing without engaging with admin stuff (or anything else) you're still doing good work - thank you! Girth Summit (blether) 23:21, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
- I am going to pile on here as another "out of the blue" editor. I don't think we have ever interacted directly at all but you have certainly provided value to me as an editor (and no doubt to Misplaced Pages as a whole) and that does not go away because you have other things to focus on whether that shift in focus is temporary or permanent. Now go get some exercise! :) S0091 (talk) 21:32, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled
A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
How we will see unregistered users
Hi!
You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

You have been pruned from a list
Hi Ian.thomson! You're receiving this notification because you were previously listed on the AFC's participants list, but you haven't made any edits to the English Misplaced Pages in over 6 months. Because of your inactivity, you have been removed from the list. If you would like to regain access to the AFCH script, you can do so at any time by visiting WT:AFCP. Thank you for your work at AFC, and if you start editing Misplaced Pages again we hope you will rejoin us. Message delivered to you with love by Yapperbot :) | Is this wrong? WP:AFC Helper News
Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
- AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
- The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Cheers, Primefac, via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:00, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
New administrator activity requirement
The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.
Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:
- Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
- Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period
Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Trying to come back
Every two weeks, when my email login expires and I have to log back in, I get the notification that "I" have too many failed logins and need to reset my password. Even after almost a year of inactivity, this is still the case. To the asshole(s) doing that, you could have made bank on crypto by now, and I'm saying that as someone who thinks all cryptocurrency is a scam.
And the number of users I've seen hounded for saying "we shouldn't allow Nazis on the site because it's antithetical to this site's goals" is dismaying. Shame on the shriveled, minuscule, impotent souls whose petty grudges push them to defend fascism just to score points against someone. And if you're upset at my characterization of you as such, you're the one who put the shoe on, Cinderella.
On top of that, over the past decade, I've spent half of it on the other side of the world from my hometown. Though this has just slowed the rate at which I was growing tired, it hasn't stopped it.
I'm fucking sick of it all. I'd say "Nazis can all go to hell" but that's like telling shit to stink. Wait, no, at least shit has enough sense that it doesn't need to be told to do that.
I do want to come back. I'm aware that we'll never "go back to normal," that there is not and will never be a "new normal," that normal was always a monsterous lie, and that order is nothing but the local flavor of chaos. That thinking is actually kinda why I got along here as well as I did.
I do enjoy non-contentious admin work. Going through new user names and blocking obvious troll or spam accounts before anyone else can even report them is actually fun.
I have a bunch of new sources for Goetia related articles as well as sources for the Shams al-Ma'arif article.
I'm tired of pretending I prioritize WP:5P over WP:NONAZIS. I know enough about the site to know that saying that's going to bite me on the ass and that that that's not going to work well with my other plans to return. Going to be thinking about it but I'm certain there's no outcome I'm going to be happy with. Ian.thomson (talk) 09:36, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Ian - I came across your username just now while reading an old thread, and realised I hadn't seen you around in a while. I came here, and read this. All I can say is this: when I was a newb, you were one of the people who inspired me. I saw lots of sensible, level-headed comments and actions from you, and I thought 'Hey, Misplaced Pages is a little bit of the internet where there are good people running things. Maybe I could get involved here.' Do what's best for you, of course, but I wanted you to know that you made a difference, for me at least. Girth Summit (blether) 23:44, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
Your essay
Just a quick thanks for penning the WP:YESPROMO essay. It's a brilliant piece and I have linked to it many times in my talk page messages! Cheers. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 00:51, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:30, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
Established policy provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have not made any edits or logged actions in the preceding twelve months. Because you have been inactive, your administrative permissions will be removed if you do not return to activity within the next month.
Inactive administrators are encouraged to rejoin the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for reengaging with the project are available at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. If you do not intend to rejoin the project in the foreseeable future, please consider voluntarily resigning your administrative permissions by making a request at the bureaucrats' noticeboard.
Thank you for your past contributions to the project. — JJMC89 bot 00:29, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
NPOV
Hello, there is a discussion about neutral point on view of the RFK Jr talk page and I am wondering what your say on it is. Logawinner (talk) 20:31, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- What made you seek out this particular editor, who has made only 1 edit in nearly 2 years? Zaathras (talk) 20:58, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- They were the editor that got onto be when I was making biased edits on religious articles when I was younger. I figured someone being on the other side of my troublemaking could make a much more informed decision than me that would be more unbiased. They are the one that taught me about NPOV.
