Momiji's mother rejected him when he was first born because he was a member of the zodiac. She refused to even glance at her son, and she began to lose her mind. Later, ] erased her memories of Momiji so she could begin to recover. When asked if she would regret it, she responded by saying that the greatest regret she had was that "that creature" had come out of her body. Momiji was listening outside the door. Now, whenever she sees Momiji at his father's company building, she thinks he is the son of someone else. Tohru is like Momiji's mother in the way that she is always protecting and looking after him. When people remark that he looks like her, she says that they don't look alike at all. Later, she and Momiji's father have a daughter, Momo, who realizes that she and Momiji look similar. Hearing him play the violin, Momo wanted to take it up as well, which prompted Momiji's father to ask Momiji quit, since they'd have the same teacher. Unfortunately, Momiji was actually the reason Momo wanted to take up violin in the first place. When Tohru came to the main house to talk to ], Momo asked her to ask Momiji if he would be her older brother. When Tohru told him this, Momiji was so happy he started crying. |

In chapter 115 of the manga, Momiji is freed from the curse. Around this time, we see that he has grown up both emotionally and physically (the girls at school describe him as charming and "princely" when he finally decides to wear a boy's uniform, though the image is somewhat ruined when he asks Tohru if she wants to buy an ice cream cake to share with the others). |
