First I want to thank you for a conscientious and difficult close on the articles RfC. There is a draft in userspace of an RfC to determine the trial format/length/etc. I plan to move it into the project space over the next week but before I do so I would love to hear your comments on the idea, the options as they exist now and the format (or anything else you can think of). :The obvious answer is that two different people closed the discussions, and human judgment can vary. As far as I can see, I would have closed the other discussion the same way I closed this one.
What do I do now? Since you are the one who closed the discussion, you tell me. Do leave a talkback. ] (]) 12:06, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
:Took me a bit to realize which DRV you mean, since I closed a few yesterday and it appears that you may have had an account name change recently. But I believe I figured out that you mean one about BLP signatures ]. I can't say that I have any super-strong advice to give, but here are some thoughts:
:*For the one that was for a person already deceased, I think recreation would be fine, and I just said so at the new DRV you opened for it. You might want to contact ] and see if he would just restore it for you on the grounds that it should have been removed from the original nomination along with Elvis, etc.
:*For the ones that are still living, my best suggestion would be to see what you can do to meet the criteria discussed at ]. I realize that it is not an official guideline, but if you address the concerns it raises, I expect you would get a lot more support for restoring/keeping these files. In particular, if any of these signatures have appeared in reliable secondary sources (leaving aside the website you got them from, which might or might not be considered a reliable source), then evidence of that should go a long way.
:That's the best I can tell you for now. --] (]) 16:02, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

:That said, I would also suggest that opening discussions for these situations may be counterproductive to begin with. The previous AfDs were a decade or more in the past, and much closer to when the subjects appeared on TV. The article creators are blocked for socking. Considering that no one bothered to comment on the AfDs, I strongly suspect that if you had just redirected the articles without opening a discussion about it, probably no one would have objected. Less work for you; no work for AfD participants and closers. --] (]) 18:41, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
== Your block of {{u|Entertainmentnow}} ==
::Isn't redirecting a previously-nominated article kinda risky, especially right now? Furthermore, as I feared, any ''Survivor''-fanatic editor would undo the redirecting and then restore the article back to as-is without further ado. I don't wanna take the closed AFD discussion to review yet, but I figured you'll stand by your decision, right? ] (]) 19:12, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
::Almost forgot: AFD results... and even DRV ones are easier to enforce and more enforceable IMO than ]. ] (]) 19:21, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

:::Your comments make me more comfortable with the choice to close as no consensus, not less. If you are so sure that someone would object to a redirect by you, then putting an admin stamp on a redirect based on a zero-input AfD would be placing a mantle of "enforceability" on a change that doesn't deserve it. --] (]) 22:37, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
Errr, isn't a 12 hour block too little, given that this user has recreated the page, has removed speedy templates 7 times and may have a connection with http://www.entertainmentnow.com.au? <span style="white-space:nowrap;">&mdash; ] ]</span> 17:09, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

== Administrators' newsletter – February 2024 ==
:My only goal was to stop the bot-reported removal of the speedy deletion template, and 12 hours should be ample to accomplish that since most A7 speedies are processed in less time than that. If the account is promotional for the website, then that's another matter entirely, but there was no mention of that in the bot report (obviously) or on the user's talk page. I'll take a look at the site and if there appears to be a connection, I'll adjust the block accordingly. --] (]) 17:18, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
::No probs. I actually repoted the user at ]. But I guess you must have seen his report at ] and blocked him 12 hours. <span style="white-space:nowrap;">&mdash; ] ]</span> 17:37, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
:::As far as I can tell, there isn't a connection between the username and the site you linked. The site covers Australian entertainers, but this account's contributions have been exclusively related to an entertainer in Florida. Their accidentally-revealed IP also geolocates to Florida. That person's site and company don't use the name Entertainment Now. So while I wouldn't be surprised to discover this is a ] account (probably the fellow promoting himself), a username block is not justified. That said, if the account resumes the same behavior after the current block ends, a longer block would be appropriate. --] (]) 18:34, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

:By "additional discussion and input", I assume you mean that you wish to register an objection to its deletion? May I ask why you bring this up at this somewhat inopportune moment after the TFD was listed for over a week? (I suspect I know the answers, but just for the record.) --] (]) 01:36, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
::Sure, no problem: I had no notification it was going on. TfD notifications don't trigger on watchlists, and the TfD wasn't DELSORT'ed into any category. As is, I think the arguments, while unanimous, were one-sided and don't reflect anything other than a local consensus. Had appropriate notifications been made, the outcome would have been different. ==Request==
<div style="flex: 1 0 20em">
Hello, RL0919. I have a special request which I believe you help me. I would like to view the "Edit history" of the deleted article "Tony Santiago". That article was depleted by the deletion nomimator before he (the nominator) placed it in AfD, which I think was unethical. I have no interest in having the article posted once more, but I would like to view it's edit history prior to deletion. Thank You. ] (]) 20:18, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
Tony Santiago

]
:I took a look at the history. While I understand your concern about the person who nominated the article doing heavy editing of it, it appears that almost all of his editing took place after the nomination was already underway. Before the nomination he placed some tags and trimmed one sentence, which is nothing unusual for someone to do when they first encounter an article. It appears that during the deletion discussion, saying that the article should be kept but "could be edited and perhaps, shortened somewhat", prompted him to start cutting material out that he thought wasn't properly sourced. And although he cut out a significant percentage of the article, looking at the individual edits and the reasons he gave in his edit summary, I can't say that his cuts were wrong. We ''don't'' accept Misplaced Pages itself as a source, or private letters, or most Facebook postings. If he hadn't cut that material, eventually someone else would have.

== Atlas Shrugged ==

Hi, I do not understand why you keep deleting my input on the Atlas Shrugged page... The libertarians and conservatives site the work as an influence do in fact subscribe to "rational selfishness," the philosophy of the book.... So why delete that fact? ] (]) 19:53, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

So far, you haven't even responded to the ] that has been open since March. --] (]) 05:36, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
::I would have responded to the talk page discussion, had I known it existed. I meant no disrespect to you or the page, but the point I made is self evident. If they cite a book's philosophy as an influence, the meaning of that influence should be mentioned. That said, I will look for a credible source that shows this self evident fact. If I find it, I will share it. --DMW ] (]) 17:29, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
::P.S. ... but given the self evident nature of my comment, given the later mention of the philosophy later in this article, in the meantime, I implore you to reinstate my edit. --DMW ] (]) 17:31, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
::here you go... https://www.pbs.org/newshour/economy/column-this-is-what-happens-when-you-take-ayn-rand-seriously ] (]) 17:38, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
:::Reliable sources document that some people have said that they were influenced by ''Atlas Shrugged'', a lengthy novel that contains multiple ideas. But you have picked one of those ideas and proclaimed on their behalf that it is what they meant. That ''interpretation'' of what the influence was is not "self-evident". The opinion column you just linked is a better source than than your own imagination, but still well below what we should be looking for. Such columns are generally ], especially when they are not from a recognized expert on the subject and most especially not for claims about living people. --] (]) 22:19, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
::::Yes the book does contain multiple ideas, but that response is a bit disingenuous, as the main thrust of the book is the philosophy of rational selfishness. If you think there is another more major theme in the book, I wish you would put it on the wiki page, as the page itself states rational selfishness as the main theme. Why the reluctance to put the theme of the book, which has been cited as an influence to these conservative and libertarian thinkers, next to the comment of its influence?
::::Thank you for continued dialogue. ] (]) 09:04, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
:::::The opening paragraph of the article says that the novel "explores a number of philosophical themes ... including reason, property rights, individualism, libertarianism and capitalism, and depicts what Rand saw as the failures of governmental coercion" and also mentions Rand's own description of the theme as "the role of man's mind in existence". The section on Themes has four subsections. It does discuss her support for egoism, but also that the novel "caricatures fascism, socialism, communism, and any state intervention in society", and other topics addressed in the novel including ones mentioned above such as property rights and individualism. When any individual says they were influenced by the novel, they could mean any of these or even some other element that isn't discussed in our article. If Misplaced Pages were in the business of drawing inferences about what people mean (without using a source that states that conclusion first), it would make more sense to infer that conservative politicians who overtly oppose socialism and communism are likely to be referring to the novel's critique of those, or to its endorsements of property rights and capitalism. It seems much ''less'' likely that politicians who are mostly self-declared believers in Christianity – a religion that endorses altruism and is founded on belief in a divine act of self-sacrifice – are indicating their support for Rand's very un-Christian views on egoism. But in any case, Misplaced Pages is ''not'' in the business of such inferences. --] (]) 01:43, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

== SNL redirects ==
== Reopening Of The template:infobox battle TFD ==

Hi, thank you for performing the redirects of the SNL history articles to the new article as per the AfD. I've been changing any links to those old pages from other articles to reflect the new article, and I was wondering if it might be worth it to clean up and delete a lot of these old redirects to the redirects that are now pretty useless? I've compiled a full list of redirects that I'll happily supply if you decide this is worth looking at, but a partial list includes ], ], and ]. All of these are now double redirects; I have a list of many more. They can easily be changed to match the new history article but would it be better to just delete them and keep things simple? Welcome to RL0919's talk page. I will generally respond here to comments that are posted here, rather than replying via your talk page (or the article's talk page, if you are writing to me here about an article), so you may want to watch this page until you are responded to, or let me know where specifically you'd prefer the reply.

Featured Article Save Award

On behalf of the FAR coordinators, thank you, RL0919! Your work on Harriet Tubman has allowed the article to retain its featured status, recognizing it as one of the best articles on Misplaced Pages. I hereby award you this Featured Article Save Award, or FASA. You may display this FA star upon your userpage. Keep up the great work! Cheers, Nikkimaria (talk) 16:39, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

How is the outcome of the AFD re-nomination on this article different from that of an AFD nomination on another article? Both don't have input from others, yet the outcome is different. George Ho (talk) 17:56, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

The obvious answer is that two different people closed the discussions, and human judgment can vary. As far as I can see, I would have closed the other discussion the same way I closed this one.
That said, I would also suggest that opening discussions for these situations may be counterproductive to begin with. --RL0919 (talk) 18:41, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
Isn't redirecting a previously-nominated article kinda risky, especially right now? Furthermore, as I feared, any Survivor-fanatic editor would undo the redirecting and then restore the article back to as-is without further ado. I don't wanna take the closed AFD discussion to review yet, but I figured you'll stand by your decision, right? George Ho (talk) 19:12, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
Almost forgot: AFD results... and even DRV ones are easier to enforce and more enforceable IMO than WP:IMPLICITCONSENSUS. George Ho (talk) 19:21, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
Your comments make me more comfortable with the choice to close as no consensus, not less. If you are so sure that someone would object to a redirect by you, then putting an admin stamp on a redirect based on a zero-input AfD would be placing a mantle of "enforceability" on a change that doesn't deserve it. --RL0919 (talk) 22:37, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I don't want to go through the hassle of filing a report at ANI and I saw that you were active recently so I wanted to ask you to possibley block the IP 91.124.53.23. If you look at their talk page (and talk page history) they are clearly making personal attacks despite being warned multiple times and they have also threatened to do sockpuppetry. Thanks. Deletion review for Vivian Jenna Wilson

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Vivian Jenna Wilson. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Rei (talk) 20:05, 4 August 2024 (UTC)

I was surprised in your closure statement that you stated that there were mostly Delete and Redirect "votes" as it looked to me like more editors were arguing for Keep than Delete. Liz 23:29, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
By my count (not the appellant's), 18 participants preferred redirection, 4 more were open to deletion or redirection, and 6 (including presumably the nominator) preferred deletion. This is easily more than the 17 clear keeps. (Two others did not provide a clear preference; one of those appeared to be arguing against notability, while the other was clearly against redirection but did not indicate an opinion about notability or keep vs. delete.) So just under 38% of the clear positions preferred keeping. --RL0919 (talk) 02:49, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
I just came to remove my comment as I said something similar at the Deletion Review. Liz 03:19, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

Atlas Shrugged

Hi, I do not understand why you keep deleting my input on the Atlas Shrugged page... The libertarians and conservatives site the work as an influence do in fact subscribe to "rational selfishness," the philosophy of the book.... So why delete that fact? 2600:8800:4021:DE00:836:FE33:DAE6:8908 (talk) 19:53, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

You may believe so, but if you want to insert such claims into Misplaced Pages you should supply reliable secondary sources that have reached this conclusion. And then be prepared to make a case that they are representative of a common viewpoint that that warrants inclusion. So far, you haven't even responded to the Talk page discussion that has been open since March. --RL0919 (talk) 05:36, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
I would have responded to the talk page discussion, had I known it existed. I meant no disrespect to you or the page, but the point I made is self evident. If they cite a book's philosophy as an influence, the meaning of that influence should be mentioned. That said, I will look for a credible source that shows this self evident fact. If I find it, I will share it. --DMW 2600:8800:4021:DE00:3C7D:CD03:E8EC:64CB (talk) 17:29, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
P.S. ... but given the self evident nature of my comment, given the later mention of the philosophy later in this article, in the meantime, I implore you to reinstate my edit. --DMW 2600:8800:4021:DE00:3C7D:CD03:E8EC:64CB (talk) 17:31, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
here you go... https://www.pbs.org/newshour/economy/column-this-is-what-happens-when-you-take-ayn-rand-seriously 2600:8800:4021:DE00:3C7D:CD03:E8EC:64CB (talk) 17:38, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
Reliable sources document that some people have said that they were influenced by Atlas Shrugged, a lengthy novel that contains multiple ideas. But you have picked one of those ideas and proclaimed on their behalf that it is what they meant. That interpretation of what the influence was is not "self-evident". The opinion column you just linked is a better source than than your own imagination, but still well below what we should be looking for. Such columns are generally not good sources for facts, especially when they are not from a recognized expert on the subject and most especially not for claims about living people. --RL0919 (talk) 22:19, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
Yes the book does contain multiple ideas, but that response is a bit disingenuous, as the main thrust of the book is the philosophy of rational selfishness. If you think there is another more major theme in the book, I wish you would put it on the wiki page, as the page itself states rational selfishness as the main theme. Why the reluctance to put the theme of the book, which has been cited as an influence to these conservative and libertarian thinkers, next to the comment of its influence?
Thank you for continued dialogue. 2600:8800:4021:DE00:C0D8:2083:8D8A:3C65 (talk) 09:04, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
The opening paragraph of the article says that the novel "explores a number of philosophical themes ... including reason, property rights, individualism, libertarianism and capitalism, and depicts what Rand saw as the failures of governmental coercion" and also mentions Rand's own description of the theme as "the role of man's mind in existence". It seems much less likely that politicians who are mostly self-declared believers in Christianity – a religion that endorses altruism and is founded on belief in a divine act of self-sacrifice – are indicating their support for Rand's very un-Christian views on egoism. But in any case, Misplaced Pages is not in the business of such inferences. --RL0919 (talk) 01:43, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

SNL redirects

Hi, thank you for performing the redirects of the SNL history articles to the new article as per the AfD. I've been changing any links to those old pages from other articles to reflect the new article, and I was wondering if it might be worth it to clean up and delete a lot of these old redirects to the redirects that are now pretty useless? I've compiled a full list of redirects that I'll happily supply if you decide this is worth looking at, but a partial list includes History of SNL:2010-2015, History of Saturday Night Live (2015-present), and History of Saturday Night Live (2020-present). All of these are now double redirects; I have a list of many more. They can easily be changed to match the new history article but would it be better to just delete them and keep things simple? Having a bunch of redirects for potential misspellings of a redirect (being kept only for its page history) seems a bit much, no? StewdioMACK (talk) 16:34, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

@StewdioMACK: There are bots that will fix most double redirects, although you are also welcome to fix any that you find. As far as deleting them goes, that typically requires a WP:RFD discussion, and redirects that have meaningful page history are almost always kept to comply with our copyright licensing requirements. (See Misplaced Pages:Merge and delete for more detail about that.) --RL0919 (talk) 16:51, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for response, that makes sense - just to clarify, I didn't mean to delete those redirects with page histories that were just redirected by you, but rather, the redirects TO those redirects with no page history that will no longer see any usage. Happy to leave them alone though. I have put one of them up at WP:RFD (Slap Pack) as I don't understand the context of it and it's not used, but I haven't put the rest up. I don't think it'd be controversial to delete them though. StewdioMACK (talk) 17:02, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

Important: Please update user script installation

Hi there, you currently have a user script installed from Anne drew Andrew and Drew. Several weeks ago, I changed my username to Anne drew, and unfortunately, due to an issue with script redirects, the scripts you have installed under my old username no longer function.

To fix this, please update your JavaScript pages (Special:MyPage/common.js or Special:MyPage/skin.js) by replacing all instances of Anne drew Andrew and Drew with Anne drew.

If any of this is unclear, please ping Anne drew for help. I apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding!

Thanks – Anne drew

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
