== Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup! ==
== Re: my copy and paste instead of using a "move" ==

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found ''']'''. If you have not yet signed up, you can ''']''' and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the ].
I didn't know about the move option - thanks for the info - will use next time. Before it is fixed though, I should point out that what I intended really is not a move but a '''fork'''. This is because the original edit to the "David Gill" page on or around the 3 February 2006 by "Consulrjo" overwrote the biography of a historical "David Gill" (I assume accidently) with that of another contemporary individual named "David Gill". ] 02:47, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented ] to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive ] at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.

==Why do you==
Removed sourced quotes from Georg Forster article ?
They were to be put and I hoped the article could be neutral. Yet again the mention of his racist views was put to minimum, I hoped that after seeing several scholary sources the article could become more neutral by your edits. I am very dissapointed that you try to present an one sided view of this person and his influences on German prejudices.I hope this will be corrected and sourced information won't be deleted.

== Deletion of untranslated articles at ] ==

Ya, I saw the discussion on the talk page, but didn't really have much to add to your last comment in there. Right now prod is pretty much a backdoor way of deleting things and I figured putting things on afd is better, since it gives people time to come up with objections on the talk page of PNT.

In the future prod would be a great place to put the untranslated pages though, since they always end up being uncontested deletions. If it comes to that, it'd also be good to put a clear notification that the process has been changed on the PNT page a few days before the first articles get prodded (in case someone from there wants to find an article listed for deletion). - ] 00:33, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
:I read it since ] is on my watchlist, I just haven't seen anything there that I'd disagree with so haven't really had any reason to comment there. And about prod: I don't really think it's a great process in most cases, but it would be perfect for the pages from PNT, since the only way anyone would contest them is if they were actually translated. But I do agree that it's better to wait for a while so that more people can get comfortable with prod first. - ] 01:04, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

== Michael sogny ==

Kusma, I appreciate your clarification on translating relating to the Michael sogny article. Hello Kusma, though visiting en:WP once in a while I did not realize that there were stubbs on Marienkirche and Lübeck Cathedral "in the air". The link set from Lübeck to Marienkirche was the message. The reason was, that the stubbs were not categorized at all. I think the proper category is most important, if you want to expand a stubb, I think this a message for the message board. I fixed that and did the wikilinks on the stubbs, so that who ever is to do the translation, will find the artists and organists available in en:WP. We are still working on de:Lübecker Marienkirche, but it takes some time to write the "underarticles" on artists, priests and patrons for the links. == Stubs under new article announcements on the ] ==

Just wanted to get your thoughts on this. I was asked today and now I just saw someone else list stubs under the new articles. I told both the following:
:I don't think we want to list stubs as new articles. But it would be great if you could really translate the German articles. That would simply be wonderful. Stubs usually don't give much information and creating them just so we can say the page exists in the en-wiki doesn't help much. It would be better to leave the links red. Don't forget that stubs also take away the chance for our articles to be picked for DYKs on the main page when they are finally completed because they no longer qualify as "new" articles. But we'd love to have your contributions of full translations advertised on the Portal and perhaps picked for DYKs both on the Portal and the Main Page. That would be great.
Both users seemed to think this is reasonable. My thinking is that if we list an article there it should be complete, otherwise we have some people only creating stubs just so they see their name there. Do you agree? --] (<small>]</small>) ] ] 01:40, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
:I think over time the list will probably be a certain length and one week seems to be a reasonable length of time considering people do not necessarily check in every day. We won't be having 3-4 new articles from every contributor every week in perpetuum - it's just not possible. So I imagine when springtime arrives and people spend more time outside it'll shrink a little. But even if it gets a little long at times I think it is a nice little pat on the shoulder and great incentive for people to contribute, giving them a feeling of accomplishment and acknoledgment. If it serves that purpose, I think we're better of continuing as we do now (unless things really, really take of). I agree on the stubs with you: a finally completed stub should be listed, no matter how long it was sitting there as a stub. In essence that IS a new article. --] (<small>]</small>) ] ] 06:36, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Yea, our software release is almost out the door. That more than anything kept me away (although, admittedly, editing wasn't as much fun when I did have time to check in during the last 10 days). But if I stare at the screen all day long until late at night, I just don't have the nerves/brains for this, you know? My percentages? I tripp up over them all the time myself too but I figured, over time, it'll likely get there, so I'm not too worried. I couldn't use 100 (I already had more than that on my list alone) and I didn't feel like taking out a calculator for updating. So this was personal little compromise. :)

On a different note, I felt bad for you for using the noticeboard to settle this little battle but I felt it was important to insist on a real discussion if for no other reason to get it resolved, once and for all. Now that's done, and actually, I'm quite happy. I feel we've accomplished something. And now I'm cleaning up my own mess and then I'll get on with things. I'm proud of you though. == Date templates ==

Are there more? Could you create a category for them? My full wishlist was , where people pointed me to the rather comprehensive ]. What I would like to see most is somthing like {{tl|day+1month}} or {{tl|day+1day}} so constructions like <nowiki>Today is day {{CURRENTDAY}} of {{CURRENTMONTH}}</nowiki> can be paralleled by <nowiki>Tomorrow is day {{day+1day}} of {{day+1month}}</nowiki>. :I have created {{]}}, {{]}}, and {{]}} with {{]}}, {{]}}, {{]}}, {{]}}, {{]}}, and {{]}} as supporting components. Using <nowiki>{{datewarn}}</nowiki> returns '{{datewarn}}' for the sort of 'one month ahead view' you were talking about. On your wishlist you mentioned an idea to use these to create a view of the Main Page for the next day, which has actually been done at ]. The day +/- 1 are also being used to allow forward/backward browsing at ] and subsequent dates. Finally, constructions like <nowiki>{{day+1|{{day+1|{{day+1|{{day+1|{{day+1}}}}}}}}}}</nowiki> work (i.e. '{{day+1|{{day+1|{{day+1|{{day+1|{{day+1}}}}}}}}}}'), but compound the already considerable kludginess of the method. --] 13:20, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

No translated passage from the article was provided on the article's talk page, and as I'm unfamiliar with ], I don't know whether to trust his judgment on whether the subject is notable or not. Hi Kusma. Given the likely date ] was taken, there's a good chance it's already within the public domain per ] even though the source website is claiming it's copyrighted. It seems fine licensed as non-free, but you might want to ask about it at ] to see whether it's OK to relicense and OK for Commons to host. -- ] (]) 06:40, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
Hello Kusma,
:@], if it was "published" in 1931 or 1932 it is indeed anonymous it is PD in Germany, but per ] I am not sure it is PD in the United States (it may have not been PD in Germany in 1996). There are various definitely published anonymous photographs of the person in 1931/32 newspapers, but again, these seem to be PD in Germany but not in the US. —] (]) 08:48, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
I have taken your advice (and that of another Administrator Alabamaboy who deleted other contributions I made) and have sent Misplaced Pages a release under the GNU use license to allow the use of the material which appeared on my website. I gave them a list of all of my contributions and hope that they (including the Sitt article) can be restored because I am not sure I have the time to do it all over again. Anyway, thank you for your help. Yours sincerely, Santo Neuenwelt.
::Please understand I wasn't stating the uploading the file as non-free was wrong; just mentioning the possibility of the image being within the public domain. If the photo was published in 1931/1932, it could enter into the public domain as early as January 1, 1927, even with URAA renewal, under US copyrght law, right? If that's the case, you could add {{tlx|Non-free in US}} or {{tlx|Not-PD-US-URAA}} to the file's page to make that known. I believe dojgn so adds the file to a category of similar files, and other work of that category to review files after the date they're expected to become PD in the US. -- ] (]) 01:00, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
:::I believe now that some of the newspaper photographs will be PD on 2027-01-01, but I don't have enough information (yet) about the one I uploaded to be sure, especially I don't know whether it was indeed anonymous. I'd be happy to prove the file free but I don't think we're there yet. Thank you for making me think about it! —] (]) 06:58, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

I noticed the revert. As you know, I added both changes (the new version and reverted changes). I'm a little bit of a template fanatic. I like them to be worded well, do a lot of automation, and be sexy. Unfornately, it did seem that the new version left alot of them orphaned. So, I was planning on just going with your revert. Many templates have two versions, so maybe we can just go that route, for more saavy users who check this alot, they can use the other version. Whatver, I'm not very opinionated or controversial.--] 22:13, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
:That's a good idea, but outside of my area of expertise. But I'd support such a development. PNT gets a little neglected since it isn't as used as, say, AfD, and I think that's why some of the people who use it aren't as familiar with the process.--] 22:23, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. File:Einsmann.jpg

Hi Kusma. Given the likely date File:Einsmann.jpg was taken, there's a good chance it's already within the public domain per c:COM:Germany even though the source website is claiming it's copyrighted. It seems fine licensed as non-free, but you might want to ask about it at c:COM:VPC to see whether it's OK to relicense and OK for Commons to host. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:40, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

@Marchjuly, if it was "published" in 1931 or 1932 it is indeed anonymous it is PD in Germany, but per c:Commons:Hirtle chart I am not sure it is PD in the United States (it may have not been PD in Germany in 1996). There are various definitely published anonymous photographs of the person in 1931/32 newspapers, but again, these seem to be PD in Germany but not in the US. —Kusma (talk) 08:48, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
Please understand I wasn't stating the uploading the file as non-free was wrong; just mentioning the possibility of the image being within the public domain. If the photo was published in 1931/1932, it could enter into the public domain as early as January 1, 1927, even with URAA renewal, under US copyrght law, right? If that's the case, you could add {{Non-free in US}} or {{Not-PD-US-URAA}} to the file's page to make that known. I believe dojgn so adds the file to a category of similar files, and other work of that category to review files after the date they're expected to become PD in the US. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:00, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
I believe now that some of the newspaper photographs will be PD on 2027-01-01, but I don't have enough information (yet) about the one I uploaded to be sure, especially I don't know whether it was indeed anonymous. I'd be happy to prove the file free but I don't think we're there yet. Thank you for making me think about it! —Kusma (talk) 06:58, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

Regarding deletion of Atul Subhash

Hi! I created the article in good faith intending to write it in the evening. The first draft might have passed the criteria for G10, I shall not argue on that, however bonafide my intentions. Regardless, I just wanted to, as a courtesy, inform you that I will be recreating it soon, as the subject is notable and warrants a good faith article. LΞVIXIUS💬 14:45, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

@Levixius, for anything related to accusing people of crimes or other wrongdoing, you need to be extremely careful with WP:BLP compliance. —Kusma (talk) 22:03, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
