== Image Stacking == | |||
==]== | |||
I see you've been removing the image stacking templates from articles lately, is there any specific reason for doing that? Because some of those articles now have a gaping white space beside the picture, which, to me, is rather unpleasant. ] 00:41, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
Hi. When you uploaded ], you did not specify complete source and copyright information. Another user subsequently tagged it with {{tl|GFDL-presumed}} and, for some time, it has existed on Misplaced Pages under the assumption that you created the image and you agreed to license it under the ]. This assumption, however well-meaning, is not legally sufficient and the tag is being phased out. Images using it are being deleted.
:Yes. I went through all of the articles using the {{tl|ImageStackRight}} template and removed it from the pages which (I thought) were using it improperly. The template really should only be used in instances where a series of images belong in a logical group, such as in the ], ], or ] articles. Otherwise, simply listing the images is sufficient and no template is needed.
This image has been tagged for deletion and will be deleted in one week if adequate copyright information is not provided.
:In a number of articles I also distributed the images to match the specific sections they referred to. There were several instances where there were redundant images or images that did not serve to illustrate any particular portion of the article. Basically, the images were in a vertically stacked gallery. As specified on ], current policy is against this. There is a discussion going on over at ] about whether galleries are appropriate in Misplaced Pages articles, and about a proposed wording change.
'''If you, personally, are the author of this content''', meaning that you took the photograph yourself or you created the chart yourself (and it does not use any clipart that you did not create), please retag the image with a free ] that correctly describes your licensing intentions, usually {{tl|GFDL-self}} or {{tl|PD-self}}. Please also make sure if you have not already done so that you write a good description of what the image depicts, when you took the photo, and other important details. This will allow Misplaced Pages to continue using the image.
:Would you mind linking me to the specific articles you are concerned about? It is difficult to gauge exactly how an article will flow given the wide variety of browsers and screen settings people use, so it would be helpful to me to know exactly what you are referring to. I wouldn't mind if you reverted my changes, if you had a reasonable explanation. I agree that gaping whitespace doesn't look very good, but I had to make some compromises earlier. ~]]] 04:14, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
'''If you did not create the image''' or if it is derived from the copyrighted works of others, please keep in mind that most images on the internet are copyrighted and are not suitable for use on Misplaced Pages. Misplaced Pages respects the copyrights of others and does not use images unless we know that they have been freely licensed. Any creative work is automatically copyrighted, ''even if it lacks a copyright notice''. Unless the copyright holder has specifically disclaimed their rights to the image and released it under the GFDL or another compatible license, we cannot use it. If you did not create the image, and cannot make the image compliant with ], simply do nothing and it will be deleted in a week. All other non-free images must follow ] rules.

::OK, I did what you suggested and removed the stack template because you made sense to just list the images. I did not originally put the stack in but it did make the images look very neat and organized. Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp only seems to apply to exact or attempted exact copies of a work, would not seem to apply to a low resolution copy of a portion of a single frame of an ad in a comic book. But whatever, I'm not married to the Atlas Award ] 01:41, 10 April 2006 (UTC) (])
Thanks for uploading ''']'''. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the ] status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{Tl|GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the ]. If you believe the media meets the criteria at ], use a tag such as {{tlp|non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at ]. See ] for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
:I'm not married to it either, so I'm really not going to pursue this any futhur. The likelyhood of Wikimedia getting sued for this image is extremely low, but one of the wonders of current U.S. copyright law is that it's so vague and ambiguous that the possibility still exists. Since the ad was published and its licensing has not been explicitly stated anywhere we know of, we must assume that it's copyrighted and all rights are reserved, just to be safe. Copyright applies to a whole work, and any parts of it people might use, so just using a cropped portion doesn't remove that legality. However, the amount of a copyrighted work is one thing the courts take into consideration in deciding if a particular use is copyright infringement. So... who knows, right? ~]]] 02:18, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

The Perl HTTP module should be handling the cookies internally. Cuddly Panda Films
As a matter of fact I do have a question. How come even as a part of my user page it still can't be allowed, or even be left undeleted? --Cuddly Panda 07:49, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- The purpose of user pages is to give Misplaced Pages editors a way to describe who they are and provide them with a way to communicate with one another. Their main use must be related to Wikimedia projects, and you can read more about them at Misplaced Pages:User page. Now, in most cases, there's no problem with having a few other personal things on your user page, such as userboxes or some lists, as you do. However, it's important to remember that Misplaced Pages is not a free web host. These policies are in place to keep Misplaced Pages and its editors focused on creating a free content encyclopedia. User:Cuddly Panda/Cuddly Panda Films and User:Cuddly Panda/Dinosauria have no relation to the project, and you could easily post these pages on your own website. If you'd like, I can send you a copy of the pages so that you may post them elsewhere on the internet. ~MDD4696 17:19, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- You can do that? I'd love it. Thanks anywho. --Cuddly Panda 07:51, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

The dicussion regarding the image's deletion is at Misplaced Pages:Images and media for deletion#Image:PRINCESS YASMIN AGA KHAN.jpg, but please only comment there if you have information regarding the image that would justify its inclusion on Misplaced Pages. Image:Toposa in action.jpg
Hi. When you uploaded Image:Toposa in action.jpg, you did not specify complete source and copyright information. Another user subsequently tagged it with {{GFDL-presumed}} and, for some time, it has existed on Misplaced Pages under the assumption that you created the image and you agreed to license it under the GFDL. This assumption, however well-meaning, is not legally sufficient and the tag is being phased out. Images using it are being deleted.
This image has been tagged for deletion and will be deleted in one week if adequate copyright information is not provided.
If you, personally, are the author of this content, meaning that you took the photograph yourself or you created the chart yourself (and it does not use any clipart that you did not create), please retag the image with a free image copyright tag that correctly describes your licensing intentions, usually {{GFDL-self}} or {{PD-self}}. Please also make sure if you have not already done so that you write a good description of what the image depicts, when you took the photo, and other important details. This will allow Misplaced Pages to continue using the image.
If you did not create the image or if it is derived from the copyrighted works of others, please keep in mind that most images on the internet are copyrighted and are not suitable for use on Misplaced Pages. Misplaced Pages respects the copyrights of others and does not use images unless we know that they have been freely licensed. Any creative work is automatically copyrighted, even if it lacks a copyright notice. Unless the copyright holder has specifically disclaimed their rights to the image and released it under the GFDL or another compatible license, we cannot use it. If you did not create the image, and cannot make the image compliant with Misplaced Pages:Non-free content, simply do nothing and it will be deleted in a week. All other non-free images must follow these rules.
Please feel free to contact me on my talk page or leave a message at Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions with any questions you may have. Thank you. Aksibot 07:44, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Mudvayne_-_Kill,_I_Oughtta.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Mudvayne_-_Kill,_I_Oughtta.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Misplaced Pages articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Misplaced Pages:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigrTex 15:20, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Skupnik.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Skupnik.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Misplaced Pages:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Misplaced Pages:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:13, 10 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia 18:13, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Mudvayne - Kill, I Oughtta.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Mudvayne - Kill, I Oughtta.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Yo-Yo Ma - Silk Road Journeys Beyond the Horizon.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Yo-Yo Ma - Silk Road Journeys Beyond the Horizon.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Misplaced Pages:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 03:24, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Mini-DV removal of information
Do I understand correctly that you just recently changed the DV page? If so, in the process you removed some information I once added, specifically the exact size of each compressed NTSC frame, which I thought was relevant (at least I haven't seen this data mentioned anywhere else). I just wanted to ask you about that (rationale, etc.). Thanks, 75.182.81.29 (talk) 18:15, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- My edit summary was "→Physical format: rm redundant explanation of capacity... see above Video Compression section". I felt that the rough capacity derivation was redundant given the details in the video compression section. The paragraph still mentions that a MiniDV tape holds 13GB. Also there was a reference link without any relevant information that I removed. ~MDD4696 19:19, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- Being a "noob", what is edit summary, and where do I find it?Anatoly larkin (talk) 08:25, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- At the top of every page there is a "history" tab for each article. It takes you to a page which shows a list of every edit ever made to that page, with edit summaries. From there you can also see the exact changes that were made for each edit. Let me know if you have any more questions. ~MDD4696 15:43, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- So, "Edit Summary" is basically in the end of the "change" line: Date, Username, (Talk|Contribs) (size) <EDIT SUMMARY>?
- Ok. Anyway, still, I feel that if somebody wanted to know exactly how many bytes each frame of DV compressed video takes up, my values were accurate and were providing such information. If you don't think it belongs on this page, where do you recommend putting it in wikipedia?
- Thanks, Anatoly larkin (talk) 05:18, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- You got it with the edit summary. If you'd like to re-add the information I removed, maybe the video compression section is more appropriate? Just use your best judgment and I'd be happy :). ~MDD4696 04:42, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, sure. I'll think about it. By the way, since you edited that page, are you into DV, or editing? I just dabble.Anatoly larkin (talk) 23:24, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
p.s (also, is there a setting in[REDACTED] where it will automatically put in my signature in each post, if I forget the 4 tildes, instead of saying something like "this unsigned comment was added by IP address"?)
- If you forget the four tildes, just edit the comment again and add them. I do not know of anything you can use to ensure that you always sign your comments. It's just a habit to get into. ~MDD4696 02:59, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Actimagine
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Actimagine, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Oo7565 (talk) 08:28, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Hilf mir
I have nominated Hilf mir, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Hilf mir. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? ≈ The Haunted Angel 11:49, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Outline of computer engineering
An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Outline of computer engineering. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Outline of computer engineering. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:09, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Call name
The article Call name has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- I don't see any reason why "Call name" should be redirected to "German name". Nothing in[REDACTED] links to "Call name" anyway, and there's nothing specific to German names about this phrase....
While all contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nyh (talk) 12:23, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Non-Free rationale for File:JavaPlatform.png
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:JavaPlatform.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under Non-Free content criteria but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Misplaced Pages is acceptable. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a Non-Free rationale.
If you have uploaded other Non-Free media, consider checking that you have specified the Non-Free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Suspension of admin privileges due to inactivity
Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative privileges of users who have been inactive for one year, meaning administrators who have made neither any edits nor any logged actions in over one year. As a result of this discussion, your administrative privileges have been removed pending your return. If you wish to have these privileges reinstated, please post to the Misplaced Pages:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Notice of change
Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that if you are inactive for a continuous three year period, you will be unable to request return of the administrative user right. This includes inactive time prior to your desysopping if you were desysopped for inactivity and inactive time prior to the change in policy. Inactivity is defined as the absence of edits or logged actions. Until such time as you have been inactive for three years, you may request return of the tools at the bureaucrats' noticeboard. After you have been inactive for three years, you may seek return of the tools only through WP:RFA. Thank you. MBisanz 00:20, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
