Passion Pop, a.k.a. '2buck chuck', is produced by Golden Gate Wines, as are a number of less well-known and similarly priced drinks. Passion Pop is labeled as a carbonated 'passion flavoured' wine, and comes in 750ml bottles. The drink is 9.5% alcohol, meaning that one bottle contains 5.6 standard drinks. <!--On many ] campuses around Australia ,-->Passion pop is consumed directly from the bottle or added in liberal doses to a punch mixture. Because passion pop contains 5.6 drinks, it is not uncommon to drink 2 bottles per person per night, without the aid of traditional glasses. The vessel is particularly suited to drinking when such a container is unavailable.

One of the more controversial aspects of passion pop is a disclaimer on the side of the bottle, warning that the drink is "Produced with the aid of milk, fish, egg & nut. Products and traces may remain." The disclaimer has recently changed to "Produced with the aid of milk, fish, egg & nut products and traces may remain." Many speculate that this is merely added as a precaution against legal proceedings, should an adverse reaction occur with one of their customers. The four items mentioned, while unlikely to all be used in the manufacture of wine, are four of the most common allergenics in food. Paradoxically, this causes many people to ignore the warning - some ] see this as an example of Golden Gate using ] (specifically ''negation'') to manipulate customers into buying their product.

The three varieties of Passion Pop in an Australian bottle shop, along with other low-cost wines

Passion Pop is an Australian alcoholic drink consisting of carbonated flavoured juice. It was created by Frank “Pop” Miranda from 1977 to 1978 at the C-Seka winery in Griffith, New South Wales. The rights for the drink were then sold to Australian Vintage, which now owns and produces the beverage. It comes in four flavours: passion fruit (original), mixed berry, strawberry (pink), and watermelon, and peach.

Description

Passion Pop is labelled as a carbonated, flavoured juice. At 9.5% alcohol, one 750 mL Champagne-style glass bottle contains 5.3 standard drinks. It was one of the first beverage products in Australia to utilise a plastic stopper (or "cork").

In Australian pop culture, Passion Pop is associated with underage drinking, with BuzzFeed labelling it "an iconic Australian beverage, usually enjoyed by teenagers drinking in parks". In 2008, the New South Wales Police Force launched "Operation Passion Pop" to fight underage drinking.
