== Question about images showing brands. ==
''Copied from ]:''

== Contests ==
:Hi Chaswmsday. As a recent contributor to discussion on the ] policy, I was wondering if you could perhaps help clarify a related issue? Does including an image of a particular brand of a given country's main export constitute advertising (i.e. does it breach that policy)? I ask because an editor has suggested that adding photo of Ethiopian Blessed Coffee brand bags by the Maryland state government as an example of Ethiopia's main export, coffee, is advertising. I believe the situation is little different from the ] car photo that's included on the Iran article as an example of one of Iran's main exports, cars (c.f. ). The Manual of Style's ] sub-policy also seems to support the both commodity pics' relevance. Please advise. Best regards, ] (]) 20:59, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

::As you may have noted from my discussions, I have some serious disagreements about proper content with the seemingly self-appointed "powers that be" within Misplaced Pages. That being said, your question is not one I've ever considered. My best hunch, at least at en.Misplaced Pages, is that such an image would ''probably'' be OK if it's in the public domain or similarly free (probably contatined in WikiMedia Commons), or licensed, as was the image you cited. I'm certainly no expert in this area. You may wish to enquire at Commons. Hi. You may be interested in participating in the ''']''' which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing, whether it's a river in Malawi, a Nigerian footballer, or a South African civil rights activist, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. For those of you who signed up to the North African contest, that will hopefully be held in the new year. The article ] has been ]&#32;because of the following concern:
Hi Middayexpress, I'm currently in the process of trying to bring FGM to good article (GA) status, with a view to possibly bringing it to featured article (FA) status. This means everything in it has to be very accurate, the content has to be fully policy compliant, the reference/citation formats have to be consistent, and there can't be any plagiarism, too-close paraphrasing, or too-far straying from the source material.
<blockquote>'''Fails ]. Only one source.'''</blockquote>

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be ].
FGM is a subject that crosses many scholarly boundaries: medicine, law, sociology, human rights, political science, anthropology, ancient history, current affairs. For each of these subjects, we have to use appropriate sources, which makes it a harder article to work on than most. We have to use ancient historians for the ancient history section; medical sources (per ]) for the medical section; political scientists and human rights experts for other sections; journalists for current affairs, and so on. Sometimes there are FGM specialists we can trust who have written about all these areas in the scholarly literature. But we have to be careful that they're using their sources properly, and often they're not. For example, several of the sources have misinterpreted the classical sources, so when that happens, we have to return to the best sources available (the sources' sources, and if necessary the sources' sources' sources).

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your ] or on ].
When I start tentatively trying to fix these things, you revert, including reverting to inconsistent reference formats and misdescribed source material. This has made article development almost come to a halt.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the ], but other ]es exist. In particular, the ] process can result in deletion without discussion, and ] allows discussion to reach ] for deletion.<!-- Template:Proposed deletion notify --> ] (] &#124; ]) 16:08, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
Can I ask that, instead of the current situation, you let me fix the article to GA standard, then you bring your sources, and we work together to weave them into the narrative? That's easily done, and in fact it's a lot easier to do that once a good structure is in place. The current situation is that we have an article that isn't good, improvements are reverted, but then some good material is added to the bad version, which means we end up with a mish-mash that is very hard to fix. ] <small>]</small> 22:27, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

Speedy deletion nomination of Mustaqbal Radio

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Mustaqbal Radio requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://somali-media.so/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Somali-Media-Mapping-Report.pdf. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Misplaced Pages takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Misplaced Pages to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Misplaced Pages:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Misplaced Pages:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 21:27, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Caves of Somalia

A tag has been placed on Category:Caves of Somalia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and it is not presently under discussion at Categories for discussion, or at disambiguation categories.

Replaceable fair use File:Ali Aref Bourhan.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Ali Aref Bourhan.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Misplaced Pages. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:34, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Amina Ali

Notice

The article Amina Ali has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Just a local Councillor. Fails WP:NPOL. 5 minutes of fame when she was a Parliamentary candidate for 3 days does not make someone notable. Fails WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Proposed deletion of Fahad Yasin Haji Dahir

Notice

The article Fahad Yasin Haji Dahir has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Misplaced Pages policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 11:51, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Raho City Taxi

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Raho City Taxi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Proposed deletion of Bitale

Notice

The article Bitale has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Classically for GNIS-based articles, this isn't designated as a town or even a mere "populated place", and yet it's been listed as one on Misplaced Pages for years! It's actually listed on GNIS as a "locality", which is a meaningless designation that only indicates a placename exists for some set of coordinates.

♠PMC(talk) 05:15, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Barbarad Bur

Notice

The article Barbarad Bur has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Citation refers to a military location identifier, not a populated place. Map co-ordinates show a block of empty desert for several km radius, and the various spellings are not recognised by gmaps. I conclude this is not a populated place and therefore does not meet WP:GNG.

Per WP:GEOLAND, named natural features are often notable, provided information beyond statistics and coordinates is known to exist. But in this case, all we have for this location is its coordinates.
