Hi, Doniago: The "Wild Kingdom" thing is a bit like recognizing the NBC peacock logo in the Futurama ] episode: the show is using recognizable iconogaphy for the joke. "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom" had a very distinctive logo, which the "Mutual of Omicron's Wild Universe" logo duplicates. That said, I found two cites: one is the IMDB entry for "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom," which lists "Naturama" under "Connections": "Futurama: Naturama (2012) (TV Episode) 'Mutual of Omicron's Wild Universe'"; IMDB's listing for "Naturama" runs the link in the opposite direction. And at theinfosphere.com, the Futurama wiki, the same allusion gets noted. ] (]) 01:14, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
:Wikis aren't reliable sources for the same reason we can't cite Misplaced Pages itself as a source, though if the Infosphere includes a reliable source then we could use that source. IMDb isn't considered a reliable source either per ].
:If this boils down to "it's obvious" and we can't find a reliable source that's noted it, then I suppose the question is why it's significant enough for us to note it here. When it comes to ], we should really be noting why something's significant, not just adding ]...which as you noted yourself can be found at IMDb. Cheers. ] (]) 12:32, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
::Doniago -- excellently said. The reason it's significant, I'd argue, is that the producers cared enough about the joke to make it the epi's central element. But a viewer who doesn't know what Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom was will be left cold; it's a plain-sight Easter egg they won't recognize. This is the kind of thing I often turn to Wiki for: when I sense an allusion in a film or book I've missed. So I'd argue the significance is that Futurama did design the whole show around the idea. That in the 1970s and 80s you had a terrestrial show sponsored by a mid-country insurance agency, and a millenium later you'd have an extraterrestrial show sponsored by a planetary despot's insurance agency; when we note it, we let the reader discover a central joke they would otherwise have missed. ] (]) 02:20, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
::::Thanks! Glad I made sense. :) What I would actually recommend, because I'm almost certain it's mentioned there, is, if other sources can't be located, using the DVD commentary as a source. It's considered reliable and other ''Futurama'' articles have done the same thing. There may be additional info beyond the fact of the reference as well. ] (]) 18:01, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
::::::Found it in ] ''review'' of the Season 7 DVD set; thanks for the nod in that direction! ] (]) 19:21, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I just wanted to say that I re-added the note on '']'' with proper citation. Apologies for the oversight.

:No problem! You might want to look at the article text as well (I'm about to step away from my PC for a bit, but if you'd rather I take a look, reply here); I think it mentions the same info you added, but it's worded differently and potentially inconsistently to what you added. Hey man it’s me again, I don’t necessarily wanna keep annoying you with stuff like this everytime it happens but for the past few weeks another genre war has been going on between me and this unnamed user for presence (2025) steven soderberghs new film, I’ve been trying to keep it as psychological thriller (since it’s also shown on the categories list too and allmovie has it labeled as one) but this dude keeps changing it to horror, and when I tried to revert my edit, he just completely got rid of every genre, I don’t necessarily know what to do and I think it’s best for now to just keep it to way it was before, not every film that looks creepy is gonna be a horror, literally ] (]) 03:37, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

:Hi there! Thanks for reaching out to me with your concern. In the interest of avoiding the appearance of ], my first suggestion would be that you initiate a conversation at the article's Talk page and see whether a ] emerges. It may not be the consensus you want, but you seem to have valid reasons for your genre preference (though AFI or BFI is often considered a better source than AllMovie), and the best thing you can do is establish that you are trying to resolve this dispute and welcome a discussion of the concerns that editors may have. Hope this helps! ] (]) 17:54, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. === Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions ===

If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please let us know on ]. -- ] (]) 12:24, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

== The Mask Of Zorro ==
; Views/Day : Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
; Quality : Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current ], and predicted assessment class.

Just want to express a sincere thanks in helping me to defend "The Mask Of Zorro" from IP Hoppers. Keep in mind, this particular person opens up a new place to make an attempt to revert to the same old edit.
The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Evidence: "The Deep But Unrequited Love" part I dislike, that shows it's the same guy.
; Content : Is more content needed?
; Headings : Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
; Images : Is the number of illustrative images about right?
; Links : Does this article link to enough other Misplaced Pages articles?
; Sources : For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

Either way, thanks for keeping an eye on it. ] (]) 21:24, 19 December 2024 (UTC)

== Changes to No Man Has Gone Before ==

Hi, you just reverted my change to the page . I remembered the line being used on the movie Cruel Intentions, then I looked it up to double check it with IMDB, what do you think would be a good way to source it if IMDB is not ok? <small><span class="autosigned">— Preceding ] comment added by ] (] • ]) 16:41, 28 May 2013 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

Sorry friend, I don't subscribe to the 'significance theory' of 'pop culture'; I deal with fact only. Just listed the media sources where the song was used.

'More Cowbell;' has its own page, and I placed a link to the entire segment. A description of the SNL skit is unwarranted on the page itself; the skit is subservient to the song, not the other way around. Please respect the song, and the edits. thanks.

== Leon Askin ==

Hi Don,
regarding my recent addition to Leon Askin, the topic of his parents death and experience as a holocaust survivor, the information source is the Misplaced Pages page for the show Hogan's Heroes.
under the sub-heading - Jewish Actors
http://en.wikipedia.org/Hogan%27s_Heroes#Jewish_actors

I don't really have time to learn the ins and outs of Wiki editing, but would hope you allow my changes to be posted under Mr. Askins' page

== Don't Dream It's Over ==
; Content : Is more content needed?
; Headings : Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
; Images : Is the number of illustrative images about right?
; Links : Does this article link to enough other Misplaced Pages articles?
; Sources : For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

Hello. I apologize that I didn't properly cite my addition to the page for Don't Dream It's Over saying that it was used in The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Adventureland. As you can tell, I'm new to editing Misplaced Pages. My resources for my contribution were having seen the films themselves (which I can't cite). Do you have any suggestions on what resources I could cite regarding soundtracks? Thanks ] (]) 02:43, 31 December 2024 (UTC)

:It's less a matter of that than that you need a source that ''discusses'' the use of the songs in their respective films, as discussed at ]. Whille it's okay to mention in the articles for the films that the songs are used as part of the soundtrack, that doesn't inherently make their usage important to the song itself. I'm sorry if I'm being a little terse here, I'm a bit time-limited right now, but happy to discuss this further if the linked information doesn't sufficiently address any concerns you might have! ] (]) 02:53, 31 December 2024 (UTC)

== Flickr RFC == == Reverted edit on Monopoly ==

Hi there. You reverted my recent grammar correction edit on ], but I believe you have made a mistake. Here is the sentence in question, where I wanted to change "created" to "create":
Hi, as a recent past editor, wondering if you might be able to chime in on the ] to help resolve an extended dispute. ] (]) 16:00, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
"In 1941, the British Secret Intelligence Service had John Waddington Ltd., the licensed manufacturer of the game in the United Kingdom, created a special edition for World War II prisoners of war held by the Nazis."
:I'll take a look; if I don't speak up you can assume it's because I didn't feel I had anything to contribute. ] (]) 16:13, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

The error may be easier to see without the clause describing the manufacturer: "In 1941, the British Secret Intelligence Service had John Waddington Ltd. created a special edition for World War II prisoners of war held by the Nazis."
== Repeated Personal Attacks and Misrepresentations by ] ==

They '''had''' someone '''create''' the game for them.
{{helpme-helped}}
] has made repeated personal attacks against me and blatantly misrepresented situations at ]. They were previously blocked for this sort of behavior, but when I filed a request for admin involvement at ] I was essentially disregarded and the matter was, in my opinion inaccurately, portrayed as a content dispute. It is ''not'' a content dispute; my issue is with how they are addressing me. I would be happy to launch an RFC/U if that is the appropriate step, but as noted I've had trouble getting other editors to be involved in this. Please help. ] (]) 04:22, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
:Here's an odd suggestion.
:Treat it, at least at first, as a content dispute. Go to, for example, ], or, if appropriate, the edit war noticeboard, etc. At the very least, you'll gather more evidence for a RfC/U. At the most, the dispute might actually be resolved. --] @ 04:33, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
::Well, I honestly feel like I shouldn't have to take that sort of roundabout approach. I'm baffled that the ANI folks proclaimed it a content dispute when I thought I made it clear that conduct was my issue. OTOH, I suppose it can't hurt anything and may even call attention to problems with the existing system. ] would probably be summarily rejected as other editors have chimed in regarding the underlying dispute itself though. ] (]) 04:39, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
::My apologies, I meant to thank you for your feedback at least, though I'd admittedly possibly like to hear from other editors as well. Would you mind if I reopened my request? ] (]) 04:42, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
::Sorry for taking so long to get back.
::Anyways, even if things get summarily rejected (as you've put it), that could be held up as evidence to the fact that it's not a content dispute.
::I'm not 100% if {{tl|helpme}} was really designed for your kind of questions. They're rather complicated. ] <span style="border:1px solid #ffa500;background:#ffce7b;"><small>If you reply here, please leave me a {{]}} message on ].</small></span> @ 22:47, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
:::I agree...but that's why I took it to ANI in the first place...and we saw how that worked out. Anyway, thanks for your input. ] (]) 23:31, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
::::Upon the advice of the ANI closer (who also clarified their reasons for closing the filing), I've opened a DRN case . I would welcome your feedback if/when it becomes pertinent. Thanks again for your help to this point. ] (]) 13:17, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

If the wording still seems confusing with my correction, perhaps "had...create" could be replaced with "hired...to create" or "asked...to create."

Latest revision as of 19:09, 6 January 2025

Welcome to my Talk page. Please note the following-
  1. I may not respond to any un-civil comments left here; in fact, I may summarily delete them. If you don't trust yourself to speak civilly, please feel free to chill out for a bit, and come back here when you feel you can speak to me civilly.
  2. You may wish to consider whether a discussion would be more productive at a specific article's Talk page, where other editors will more easily be able to view the conversation and offer feedback.
  3. Before starting a thread to discuss any removals of unsourced material from articles, please review WP:V and WP:BURDEN. I will expect any discussions to take those policies into consideration. Also, please note that I have already been the subject of an ANI discussion regarding my removal of uncited material; I will expect any discussions of such here to go beyond what was raised during that discussion.
  4. Please be aware that just because something is handled a certain way elsewhere on Misplaced Pages does not mean it is okay for it to be repeated; it is possible the matter was handled improperly at the location being used as a precedent. For more information, see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS.
Thank you for your consideration and civility!

The Bourne Identity

Hi, I just wanted to say that I re-added the note on The Bourne Identity with proper citation. Apologies for the oversight. TheAlderaanian (talk) 13:40, July 9, 2024 (UTC)

No problem! You might want to look at the article text as well (I'm about to step away from my PC for a bit, but if you'd rather I take a look, reply here); I think it mentions the same info you added, but it's worded differently and potentially inconsistently to what you added. Cheers! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Doniago (talkcontribs) 13:51, July 9, 2024 (UTC)

I’d like some help please

Hey man it’s me again, I don’t necessarily wanna keep annoying you with stuff like this everytime it happens but for the past few weeks another genre war has been going on between me and this unnamed user for presence (2025) steven soderberghs new film, I’ve been trying to keep it as psychological thriller (since it’s also shown on the categories list too and allmovie has it labeled as one) but this dude keeps changing it to horror, and when I tried to revert my edit, he just completely got rid of every genre, I don’t necessarily know what to do and I think it’s best for now to just keep it to way it was before, not every film that looks creepy is gonna be a horror, literally Pomniismywife (talk) 03:37, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out to me with your concern. In the interest of avoiding the appearance of edit-warring, my first suggestion would be that you initiate a conversation at the article's Talk page and see whether a consensus emerges. DonIago (talk) 17:54, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

The Mask Of Zorro

Just want to express a sincere thanks in helping me to defend "The Mask Of Zorro" from IP Hoppers. Keep in mind, this particular person opens up a new place to make an attempt to revert to the same old edit.

Evidence: "The Deep But Unrequited Love" part I dislike, that shows it's the same guy.

Either way, thanks for keeping an eye on it. Maxcardun (talk) 21:24, 19 December 2024 (UTC)

Don't Dream It's Over

Thanks Mason Marsh (talk) 02:43, 31 December 2024 (UTC)

It's less a matter of that than that you need a source that discusses the use of the songs in their respective films, as discussed at WP:IPCV. DonIago (talk) 02:53, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your help. Mason Marsh (talk) 03:06, 31 December 2024 (UTC)

Reverted edit on Monopoly

Hi there. You reverted my recent grammar correction edit on Monopoly (game), but I believe you have made a mistake. Here is the sentence in question, where I wanted to change "created" to "create": "In 1941, the British Secret Intelligence Service had John Waddington Ltd., the licensed manufacturer of the game in the United Kingdom, created a special edition for World War II prisoners of war held by the Nazis."

The error may be easier to see without the clause describing the manufacturer: "In 1941, the British Secret Intelligence Service had John Waddington Ltd. created a special edition for World War II prisoners of war held by the Nazis."

They had someone create the game for them.

If the wording still seems confusing with my correction, perhaps "had...create" could be replaced with "hired...to create" or "asked...to create."

Let me know what you think.

Best, FrogUnderALilyPad (talk) 02:43, 1 January 2025 (UTC)

Nevermind, I now see that someone else has undone your reversion. Take care. FrogUnderALilyPad (talk) 02:51, 1 January 2025 (UTC)

Copy edit error

Actually you made the error here, but great job for fixing it, and also getting those discussions going. There is a bit of a concern with the LLM style responses. TiggerJay(talk) 05:52, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

What really jumped out at me was the whole idea that an editor with an account less than a week old and with fewer than 100 edits would be closing discussions in the first place. I'm all for boldness, but there's boldness and then there's overreaching. DonIago (talk) 07:32, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
