Shed code

The only online source for SR shed code 'BAT' I can find is this blog, which looks quite convincing but has no indication of authorship or sources of information. Where does this info come from? -- Verbarson  edits 10:02, 29 May 2024 (UTC)

@Verbarson: The Southern Railway did not use shed codes, although some of its predecessors did. Codes such as BAT for Stewarts Lane (others include AFD = Ashford, BPL = Barnstaple, BAS = Basingstoke etc.) were devised by the RCTS for their own use, primarily in their monthly subscription-only journal Railway Observer. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 18:25, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
@Redrose64: Thanks. I have removed the mentions from the article. Would the info in the blog be coming from RCTS sources, do you think? -- Verbarson  edits 18:55, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
It might be put together from RCTS-published material. Or it might be from personal observations. It's probable that some locospotters used the RCTS shed codes as a convenient mnemonic before the BR codes were introduced. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:31, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
