Can you please userfy this page for me. 11:15, 13 April 2015 Nyttend talk contribs undeleted page Jose Landi (242 revisions restored: History merge) (thank)
There is a long-standing rivalry between the east and west sides of Cincinnati. While Vine Street is generally accepted as being the dividing line (''Cincinnati Enquirer'' cartoonist ] famously likened Vine Street to the Berlin Wall ), the line is sometimes blurred. ], the location of many fine homes on the NRHP, is west of Vine Street but I wouldn't consider Clifton to be culturally a west side neighborhood. It's 'central' (or perhaps ''northern'' as the relevant section puts it, for lack of a better term).
So there's no easy answer to your proposal. But still, there are ways we can improve the current system.
Thank you | |||
There is no "east side" or "west side" to Over-the-Rhine. It's so close to Downtown Cincinnati, that all properties located in OTR should appear in the downtown section. You could even rename that page 'NRHP in downtown Cincinnati and Over-the-Rhine' if necessary. Even better, create a separate page 'NRHP in Over-the-Rhine' listing all of the many individual properties there.

At ] you replaced the useless hyphen after "wholly" that I had removed per ], which says "A hyphen is not used after a standard -ly adverb (a newly available home, a wholly owned subsidiary)". You also removed a full stop after "et al", which, according to something like consensus, is prescribed by AWB/Typos, and was discussed last month at ], so if you have an issue with that situation, that talk page would be a good place to bring it up. I did not change the citation style, as your edit summary indicated. The tone of the edit summary could also be improved. ] ] 17:53, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
:I suggested that you take your complaint about "et al." to WT:AWB/T, yet you brought it to my talk page. I did not originate the rule, did not participate in the discussion about it, and I am not the only AWB user who is likely to find AWB changing "et al" to "et al." inside or outside citations. If you want something done about AWB changing punctuation in citations, then WT:AWB/T is the place to go. Your use of the "Not a typo" template to preserve "wholly-owned" is not in line with the purpose of the template; that template is not intended to enable editors to fly in the face of the MoS and instead impose their personal tastes. You do not seem receptive to any of my suggestions, but, anyway, here is one more: adopt a more cooperative attitude. ] ] 18:23, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

You can block editors from specific pages, in whatever namespace, or from entire namespaces. This is often useful in stopping edit warriors, as it's less drastic than a siteblock, and allows them to make their case on the article talkpage, for instance. You can block from multiple pages in different namespaces.
==Roman Myth Templates==
Namespace blocks can be useful for dealing with an editor who is to focused on WP space pot-stirring. . . Someone who is less than competent with templates might need a template space block. It can be extremely useful where you might otherwise have to place an overly large IP rangeblock - you can deal with a focused problem IP range by blocking the individual articles or editors they've focused on. Harassment IPs are often dealt with that way.

Hi Nyttend! You have an original picture attached to the ] article ] . In the description, you have it located 'off Miller Road' at 37° 06′ 14″ N, 76° 33′ 07″ W. Based on the NRHP nomination documentation, https://www.dhr.virginia.gov/VLR_to_transfer/PDFNoms/121-0037_First_Denbigh_Church_AE_Site_1982_Final_Nomination.pdf, the location was cited as being nearest 18 Walters Road, about 4500ft south, at the next creek convergence. Language in the NRHP doc described 15 feet out of 50 of the church having being lost to erosion before rip rap was added, implying it was right on the river. The Newport News property records at https://assessment.nnva.gov/PT/datalets/datalet.aspx?mode=sales&UseSearch=no&pin=178000121&jur=700&taxyr=2025&LMparent=20 also match the NRHP assertion of a Donald Shenk owning the land at the time of the 1981/2 submission. Before I update, do you happen to have a different source or personal knowledge that would put the location that 0.85 miles north, near Miller Road?
And as for the location (the talk page), I would point you to ], which very clearly uses the word "discussions" in its example, and even uses the words: '''''"...and their talk pages."''''' If you feel that TBAN is too vaguely worded, or that you feel I am misinterpreting what is (in my estimation) laid out fairly clearly there, I welcome discussion.

::Thanks for the note. It's been a long long time since I had any kind of interaction with Bugs or Medeis (I vaguely remember sending TRM a note not long ago), and the last substantial thing I remember saying to Bugs (year or two ago?) was basically "this is your last warning for personal attacks", rather than something that would bias me in his favor. I'm sorry that I didn't notify you as expected; I'd just assumed that you would quickly learn from my note at the WP:AN thread, since you'd started it as a request for input on the situation. No disagreement with your interpretation of WP:TBAN; I was attempting to say that this is a thoroughly different situation. The proposal that you closed as "yes" wasn't at all written as a topic ban from discussing Misplaced Pages reference desks — the wording indicates a desire to keep them off the desk, a page ban that just got misnamed. This is thus different from a topic ban on weather, which prohibits people from discussing weather on talk pages or non-meteorological articles. ] (]) 06:54, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
:::Thank you for your comments.
:::And my apologies, I wasn't suggesting you were biased (though I suppose I can see how that could have been interpreted that way), I was merely trying to be thorough in my comment of "leaving it to your discretion".
:::I went to AN last, after reading my talk page and checking on the status of the block (in case comment was required). I saw that you had unblocked and left you this note above.
:::And on your point about topic ban vs page ban. I think you've a valid point there. What was being discussed was banning the editors from the '''''pages''''' related to the reference desk, rather than the '''''topic''''' of the reference desk. But just as the proposer apparently overlooked that fine point, so did the closer. (As an aside, I think it's fair to say that in[REDACTED] parlance shorthand, it's not uncommon to see someone use the phrase "topic ban" when they mean "page ban". But that's little excuse : )
:::Under normal circumstances, I'd immediately go and clarify the closure (and note it to those affected), but with the 3PO underway, with more than a few questioning the closure itself, I think I'll wait a bit for more input. - <b>]</b> 07:29, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
::::<complicated>Actually, I didn't think you thought I was biased</complicated>; I thought you were basically trying to say "I'm AGF-ing", and I was basically trying to say "You're right, and here's side information in case you care". No need to apologise. I can understand the situation of (<normally would clarify> and <won't now due to contention>); it just seemed that your initial closing statement was all you were planning to say by yourself (i.e. you hadn't left anything out; any modifications would represent a change of mind), so I expected that you meant to say (and were intending to continue saying) that he was restricted specifically from editing the Reference Desk, and then decided by yourself later that the ban ought to go farther than that, doing it of your own accord and not simply because your interpretation of the discussion had changed. Of course I fully understand that you couldn't respond to all of the comments at WP:AN, since they were coming rather fast and quickly together, so I wasn't thinking you were ignoring people's comments. Way past bedtime for me; it's almost 3AM, and I have work at 9AM, so please don't expect any more responses for quite a while. ] (]) 07:49, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

I see you merged those histories. Could you merge histories of talk pages ] and ] as well? Thanks. '']'' ] ] 01:15, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
:No. Let me explain why; it's a technical reason, not some petty refusal on my part. All of the edits I moved to ] were originally at ] — I deleted both pages, restored the aeromobil edits that I was going to merge, moved them to Klein, and restored the deleted Klein edits. I was originally going to move everything from aeromobil to Klein, and my decision to leave a few behind was intentional. This is because the timestamps overlapped, and as ] says, histmerging some overlapping stuff would produce severe confusion. Let me demonstrate the result by pointing you to a few pages:
*] | |||
*] | |||
*] | |||
*] | |||
*] | |||
:I created pages 1 and 4 with the original chunk from ] and created pages 2 and 3 with identical text from ]. I then proceeded to make a few edits to each page, being careful to make the same edit to each pair: I cut the "Preservation" section from each article, and then I cut everything below References. I did nothing more to 3 and 4, while I then performed a complete history merge by moving 1 and 2 to page 5. You can easily see my editing patterns by looking at the histories for pages 3 and 4: everything proceeds in a nice linear fashion, e.g. . However, all the diffs in the history of page 5 are gibberish. Look at , for example: my edit summary was "Cutting a chunk", but it looks as if I completely replaced one page with another, and "cutting a chunk" resulted in the article actually gaining 776 characters. '''My point''' Any time you have pages with overlapping timestamps, a histmerge is catastrophic. Histmerges are only ever safe when all of the edits at page 1 were made before any of the edits at page 2 were made. ] (]) 01:35, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
::OK, I get your point. But sadly, we're losing when DYK was confirmed this way... In my opinion user who renamed Draft:Aeromobil to Klein Aeromobil did it pretty hasty and inappropriately. He should've first merge it with already existent page Aeromobil (at that time tagged with some copyvio tag) and only then rename it at will. :::Actually we've not lost any revisions; every revision is visible (i.e. there are no deleted edits in any of the page histories), and displayed when it first appeared at DYK. Or are you asking me to merge the talk page histories as well? I'd advise against that: when articles get histmerged, we normally don't move their talk pages. I don't understand why you think the rename was inappropriate or unhelpful: the Draft namespace is only for pages that aren't ready to be articles yet, so if I remember rightly, they're ] and thus difficult to find with search engines, but pages in mainspace can easily be found by Google within a few minutes of their creation. The page that you edited (]) was initially created, by me, in order to hold atomic testing history for those three countries. A few days later I decided it would be best if the data were on three different pages. Someone came along and placed links top those three pages there. I was looking for a way to delete it (I fairly new to file level editing in wiki), and along came another editor who put it under quick-delete. I placed a message on the QD page saying that was perfectly alright with me, then along you come and delete the link top the comments page as well as the quick-delete header. It is not a disambiguation page; it was merely a page with three useless links on it - useless because the reason for the page is gone, and it is an orphan besides. So, why don't you just delete the page and its talk, and we'll all be happy? ] (]) 06:13, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

:::::To respond to your initial question, I simply don't understand where people are coming from. I don't understand where you're coming from. I don't really understand ''anything'' of this dispute, and the massive discussion didn't help at all. It was the only thing that could end in anything at all! Also please note that I'm not attempting to make this anything more of a vote than normal votes: yes, people are offering input in a "support"/"oppose" type of format, but things like Salvidrim's "Support, Oppose and Neutral" are accepted, and we're going to pay attention to comments made with the votes. ] (]) 05:15, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

It remains incorrect, regardless of some early decision on Misplaced Pages. Establishing inappropriate forms and styles and then maintaining them happens quite a lot here. And when it happens, it is to the discredit of the encyclopedia. ] (]) 23:15, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
:I searched for "St. Michael's Catholic Church (Cedar Hill, Tennessee)", fully expecting because of the information that you gave, that this would find a page ''with that name''. It didn't. ::Nyttend, what I am telling you is: this is a stupid and inappropriate naming convention that does not comply with real-world usage, encyclopedic usage or the way in which churches are listed in the relevant government documents or those of heritage bodies.
::Whoever established this on Misplaced Pages got it wrong in the first place, and it needs to be brought into line. Churches are generally known by the name of their location, along with their saints name. In the case of cathedrals, they are generally just known by their location, unless there are two cathedrals in the town.
::You cannot over-ride common sense, common usage and common knowledge with some foolish[REDACTED] convention that wasn't thought through in the first place, and is now being badly misapplied. Look up a few church websites, find some that include the location, and see how it is done.
::I have checked a couple of state capitol buildings and notice ], not ] although both get a result. This example, however, shows how ridiculous the convention is, when misapplied. Obviously William's established, but the same is not true of User:Remux (who created the AFD), and there's no good reason to see his edits as a good-faith objection to the redirection. <small>I need to note that the wirtland.blogspot.com hit piece does catch one thing incorrect that I've said — I'm not in graduate school anymore, because I finished up my programs and got my degrees last year.</small> ] (]) 00:05, 31 January 2014 (UTC) |

Communities of Perry County, Tennessee template edits
Good afternoon! I see that you reverted an edit to this template to a version including a number of red links to pages that had been draftified until notability can be established. I am unsure of what you mean by your edit summary of "Redirecting communities to the county is grossly inappropriate," as it appears as though all you did was restore a number of red links. Could you please further explain what you were trying to do? Thanks! nf utvol (talk) 19:22, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- They might not be notable, though. I added these places after I found them in the GNIS, but before I discovered the rule that simply existing in GNIS isn't enough for geographic places. Based on that, I took the articles that I created that I was having trouble finding additional sources or evidence of notability of, draftified then until I could do more research, and removed the entries I had created from the template. I didn't just go deleting redlinks, I deleted redlinks that I had added myself on a mistaken interpretation of the rules, then corrected when I realized my error. Either way, I'm still not sure what you were talking about with the redirecting comment, as none were redirects to the county.nf utvol (talk) 01:47, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

Partial blocks
Per your question at ANI, I'll try to answer.
You can block editors from specific pages, in whatever namespace, or from entire namespaces. This is often useful in stopping edit warriors, as it's less drastic than a siteblock, and allows them to make their case on the article talkpage, for instance. You can block from multiple pages in different namespaces.
Namespace blocks can be useful for dealing with an editor who is to focused on WP space pot-stirring. . . Someone who is less than competent with templates might need a template space block. I've also used it for editors who are polite and communicative, but who have chronic sourcing issues in article space.
It can be extremely useful where you might otherwise have to place an overly large IP rangeblock - you can deal with a focused problem IP range by blocking the individual articles or editors they've focused on. Harassment IPs are often dealt with that way.
I wasn't keen on it at first, and there are still many times when someone just needs a siteblock. But it's a little gentler than a siteblock for editors whose problems can be isolated to a few locations, or where you want to preserve access to most of the 'pedia from a big range..

Belated Welcome back!
Hello, Nyttend,
I just saw your message an AN and I must say that I noticed your absence over the years but I hadn't noticed that you had returned and got your mop back. You were missed! We are short-handed in several admin areas on the project so, however you wish to contribute, your presence is very welcome. I myself took two years off, from 2016-2018 while I dealt with issues in my off-line life and I was glad I took a break. I hope you still find the work here satisfying. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask one of the old-timers. Liz 04:31, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
- I see I already posted a belated welcome back in 2023, so just consider this a reprise! Liz 04:33, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
CSD removals
Hi, I'm not sure why you have removed the CSD tags from these articles. They're quite clearly hoaxes which means G3 is applicable. Here's a search result for one of the them AusLondonder (talk) 23:30, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
MRO
Hello Nyttend, could you please explain to me why you arbitrarily deleted Middlesex Record Office from the disambiguation page? In my opinion, the encyclopedic relevance is clearly given due to the presence of the article about the successor organization. Max12Max (talk) 17:07, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
Removal of CSD
Hi Nyttend,
I had requested a deletion of redirect Pain into Power to make way for AFC move of the draft article Draft:Pain into Power. The article cannot be reviewed or approved without actually deleting the redirect page. Can you kindly delete it? Cheers. Jamiebuba (talk) 07:44, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
Please see MOS:GEOLINK
Hi Nyttend, I just made an edit to bring the Neal, Kansas, article in line with MOS:GEOLINK:
N Greenwood County, Kansas, United States (], ], ]
)
Y Greenwood County, Kansas, United States (], United States
)
I happened to take a look at the history of the article and noticed that you have been recently working on this and some related articles. It would be great if you could also help to fix some of the overlinking in these articles, in line with MOS:GEOLINK. Thanks! —Bkell (talk) 18:08, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Robinson Township, Pennsylvania
The article Robinson Township, Pennsylvania has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Not required due to WP:TWODABS. Articles now appear separately at Robinson, and both link to each other.
While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — Voice of Clam (talk) 07:54, 21 July 2024 (UTC)

First Denbigh Parish Church Archeological Site Picture - precision location?
Hi Nyttend! You have an original picture attached to the First Denbigh Parish Church Archeological Site article here . Invitation to participate in a research
Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,

Hurricane Kristy (2024)
I saw that two days ago you had overruled my decline of Hurricane Kristy (2024) and moved it into mainspace anyway. There was an active discussion as to whether Category 5 hurricanes warrant notability, and the article will now most likely be merged. Why did you move it? SirMemeGod 17:17, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
Since you said you were curious about CTOP
Since you mentioned that you weren't familiar with the CTOP protection enforcements and were curious - if enforcing a protection of a page as part of WP:CTOP - there's a logging procedure outlined at Misplaced Pages:Contentious_topics#Logging to log said protection at the relevant subsection in the log, such as Misplaced Pages:Arbitration_enforcement_log#American_politics_(CT/AP) for enforcing an AMPOL protection so a history of such protections is centralized, for example to say be able to see how often a certain arbitration enforcement had to be enacted each year. As I'm editing fairly frequently on various CTOP articles and counter vandalism patrol, I've encountered my fair share of it, so I've become fairly familiar with the theoretical aspect of it to seek help from admins on it to help enforcement as necessary :) It's up to the admins discretion, but given the vandalism appeared clearly politically motivated, I would have considered it to fall under the AMPOL CTOP, which is why I suggested logging it, but it's up to you as the admin that imposed it of course :) Raladic (talk) 04:35, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
