The first and third are upcoming film listings for minor film festivals. These are not independent sources, since the film festivals have an interest in promoting the films they feature, and the copy seems likely to have been substantially written by the filmmakers. The second link is an article in a local publication where one of the festivals will be held that consists mostly of an interview with the filmmaker. In my opinion, these sources are insufficient to support a Misplaced Pages article. From outside, there is a plethora of difficulties. Apart from that, I see a somewhat seemingly arbitrary nature of deleting articles and some editors swift to delete seemingly to exert their power (not including yourself). I have determined that the deletion process is hardest on independents. The studio films of course have a plethora at seemingly 'arms-length' assistants to post on their behalf. I feel completely confident in saying that not a single substantive edit to that article was made by any "seemingly 'arms-length' assistants". The article was created and improved by committed and experienced volunteer editors with no paid connection to the film makers. Good Misplaced Pages articles are written by independent editors.

:::I have participated in 1859 debates about deleting articles. The process is by no means arbitrary. It is based on well-established policies and notability guidelines. Yes, there are some borderline cases, but the vast majority of deletion debates are resolved in a very consistent, fair and predictable way.

Hello, Cullen! I was wondering if you could answer a quick question for me. I know there are two ways to cite sources on Misplaced Pages; one being in-line citations, which are the ones with numbers and appear after each sentence; the other being the sort of "general" citations, which appear in a bullet point list at the end of the article.

How come general citations are allowed? Because they do not directly tie to their specific fact, doesn't it make sourcing ambiguous or possibly hard to catch vandalism?

:Hello, {{U|Bananasoldier}}. I think that inline citations are preferred, and are pretty much the standard for highly rated articles. However, we allow a variety of citation styles, and on a simple, brief article, a general citation saying that the content is referenced to pages 11, 13 and 42 of a book, and the pages 1 and 3 of an article might be adequate. :::I don't have time or the interest to check every one in ], but it appears that "Sources" is highly redundant to "References" in this article. I am not sure if anything would be lost at all by deleting "Sources" completely. But you are the fish expert, my friend, not me. Please check carefully. As for converting when you don't have access to the source, I am not sure that I would go about doing such a thing. When I see some poorly formatted reference without obvious "red flags" indicating possible fraud, hoax or vandalism, and I don't have personal access to the source, I simply leave it alone. We have 4.4 million articles and I can't improve every single one. Nor can you. I have immediate access to a couple thousand books in my own personal library. I have access to untold millions of excellent sources online. I don't agonize about what I can't improve or am not motivated to improve. Instead, I work on improving articles on the specific topics that captivate ''me'', and those where I do have access to good solid sources. A user in Portugal has been systematically vandalizing the above-mentioned page to turn it into an unreadable, unwieldy, defamatory mess. This was not the first time that something like this happened. It happened last month and another editor reverted it. Nevertheless if Beebop211 is willing to contribute to improve the article then I am glad to welcome him. The more people contributing and scrutinizing it the better. That is one of the strengths of wikipedia. I don’t own the article.

I wrote the article for Anne Ewing a month or so ago. A couple of hours ago I wrote a related article about feminists in the 70s and called it Removing Sexist and Racist Language in Primary School Readers in the United States. It was quickly deleted for lack of context. Okay. Now how can I access what I've already written and edit/add the requested context? I am just not sure how to do it. A list of links to her own articles is not independent coverage. Nor are comments by the guy who wrote the foreword to her book and openly admits that she is a personal friend. Take a look at the sort of references in the articles that I've written. Not every single one needs to be fully independent. but there should be enough to clearly establish notability. So please search for additional sources with that in mind. It is far better to have four or five really solid references than fifteen or twenty weak ones.

Researchers looking at the personality characteristics of the "righteous Gentiles" and other similar people who risked all to save others need to see a broad view of these people's character. Hi Cullen, you ] a little while back after ]. While they haven't gone back to the exact same sort of disruption they were doing that led to the block, my impression of them is still a ... very odd one. They came to my attention by writing ] (and I later found out they asked a ] to ] on their talk page;); they probably saw both these users via protection logs or something. I Spot-checked several of their edits and reverted some (e.g. ]) but others looked OK. I think we're dealing with a young/unresponsive editor and maybe language issues ... I think at the very least they need to be closely watched, but I wouldn't object to reblocking them, maybe for longer than a month. Not to mention that ] is kinda crazy! And their early edits are a bit interesting for a new user. This is the exact sort of user I had trouble with as an admin. I'm not even sure what to warn them with, if anything. Dear Cullen328, If you really no longer wish to be involved in the Sousa Mendes drama, I'm not going to urge you to continue to be involved. Believe me, I would rather not be involved myself. But if I cease to be involved I have no doubt that the page will revert to being the smear job it became in late October 2013. I am happy to include any fact as long as it is relevant and substantiated. Really I am. I do not speak Portuguese so have no way of knowing if JPratas is accurately representing Portuguese-language sources. For example: the business of the "San Francisco incident" I never knew anything about until I saw the YouTube video I shared with you. Then when I looked in Fralon I saw that he devoted one paragraph to it, and characterized the facts somewhat differently. Now I see that in one of the French sources the incident also rates one paragraph, and I would be happy to share that text too. But it's dispiriting when I present my findings on the article Talk page, and JPratas, instead of working towards common language, chooses to go on the attack. I realize that trying to reason with someone intent on doing harm is a waste of my own and everyone else's time. And I don't know what to do about it. Hi ZCB135. Because the rationale for using a book cover is that the image is necessary to help identify the book, you cannot use an image of the cover on any page apart from an article about the book. We do not have an article about Angst (book) on Misplaced Pages, and so the image cannot be used here. I uploaded an image to Wikimedia commons and have now realized I put in incorrect info and it needs to be removed asap. Hello ZCB135. If the artwork was published before 1923 in the United States, then its copyright has expired and an image of that artwork can be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons for use by anyone for any purpose. However, if that old artwork is only one component of an original contemporary book cover design, including original text content, selection of distinctive typefaces, publisher's logos and so on, then that complete book cover design is subject to copyright if published more recently than 1923. Such matters can challenge experienced attorneys, and I am not an attorney. So all I can do is recommend caution. Best to use such an image only under the restrictions of our non free content policy. If I may suggest, now that you've posted the Eichorn article the draft below might be deleted. It's your talk page to do with as you like, but it's a bit hard to edit around.
As for formatting and pictures, a good way to learn is to look around at other articles to see what you think looks best. It can be helpful to break up long blocks of text into subsections. Perhaps it'd be possible to split the biography into two or three eras. Other than that, the formatting is usually kept fairly plain. As for photos, it's easy to upload them: the trick is in finding photos with appropriate licensing. If you have any personal photos then those'd be fine. There are might be pictures of the peaks he did first ascents on in the Wikicommons. File:Cathedral Peak.png is a so-so pic of Eichorn Pinnacle.

Thanks Justin and OMCV. I am beginning work on Tom Frost and Glen Dawson. Comments on Norman Clyde would be welcomed. I will defintely read up on Peter Croft, OMCV. I am still "learning the ropes" in Misplaced Pages, to use a climbing analogy, and have all sorts of things in mind. My biggest challenge right now is getting permission to use images. My next biggest challenge is hiking to the top of Mt. Whitney with my wife in ten days - she's never been above 12,000 feet except for the train ride up Pikes Peak. I would greatly appreciate if you would spare some valuable time to highlight those parts from the draft that I need to pay close attentions to regarding the aspect that you raised. I know it would be a long shot to ask if you would even consider providing specific examples by directly editing them on the draft.

Lastly, I still do not know on how to submit the revision for review. I do not see any obvious buttons or pull-down menus from the Sandbox setting that would be able to allow to submit the article for review.

Hello, PhoCoHaNoi. I am not going to edit the draft myself, because I want this to be a learning exercise for you. Here are a few examples of unacceptable wording:
  • "celebrating the 73-year history of outstanding men and women"
  • "pioneering contributions"
  • "sustained leadership and strategic vision"
  • "Exceptional services to innovation ecosystem"
  • "stimulating small business innovation, meeting the Air Force and DoD R&D needs, broadening participation in innovation and entrepreneurship, and boosting commercialization"
  • " So, as Dr. Pham looked back now, he brought systems-theoretic science and control engineering principles, together with teamwork and interdisciplinary to bear fruition in solving warfighter engineering problems, various areas of specific focus for increased activities in space control autonomy and space domain awareness."
It is not the job of a Misplaced Pages editor (you) to praise a person. Every trace of this non-neutral language must be removed. A Misplaced Pages article should never say "Person A is great!" Instead, it should say "Reliable source C reports that Expert B says that Person A is great", along with a reference to Reliable source C.
As for how to submit your draft, I will explain that when the draft complies with the neutral point of view. Cullen Let's discuss it

Hello, Wisdomagic. This appears to be about Draft:The Balkans Continued Fraction, which is about a mathematical concept. The draft has only a single reference to a preprint of an article by Naccache and Yifrach-Stav, who together developed the concept. This is nowhere close to being an acceptable encyclopedia article. The preprint is worthless for the purpose of a Misplaced Pages article. What is required are multiple references to articles in peer-reviewed journals written by mathematicians completely independent of Naccache and Yifrach-Stav that devote significant coverage to the Balkans Continued Fraction. Hello, Duke Nuketown. Lots of things on Misplaced Pages rely on templates, which are brief segments of code that carry out more sophistated functions. In the Wikicode, a template opens with a pair of opening curly brackets and are closed with a pair of closing curly brackets. When you tried to change the date from TBA to a definite date, you inadvertently removed the pair of closing curly brackets. That caused the infobox to go haywire, because it is generated by a template. Please read WP:TEMPLATE. Another editor promptly corrected your error. No big deal. Elenuus, a user you previously blocked

Hi Cullen, you blocked this user for a month a little while back after this ANI report. While they haven't gone back to the exact same sort of disruption they were doing that led to the block, my impression of them is still a ... very odd one. They came to my attention by writing "Hello?" to a long-deceased user (and I later found out they asked a way-too-personal question to Callanecc on their talk page;); they probably saw both these users via protection logs or something. I Spot-checked several of their edits and reverted some (e.g. this removal of formatting markup) but others looked OK. I think we're dealing with a young/unresponsive editor and maybe language issues ... I think at the very least they need to be closely watched, but I wouldn't object to reblocking them, maybe for longer than a month. Not to mention that their talk page is kinda crazy! And their early edits are a bit interesting for a new user. This is the exact sort of user I had trouble with as an admin. I'm not even sure what to warn them with, if anything. I made a mistake and can't fix it.

I uploaded an image to Wikimedia commons and have now realized I put in incorrect info and it needs to be removed asap. Due to personal issues on my end, I can't go to Wikimedia commons myself and fix it. I'm truly sorry but I've noticed you help around a lot at the Teahouse and was hoping you could do it for me. The image to be removed is titled something like "The Big Bad Wolf - The Wolf's Revenge logo". It should be some black font in front of a white background with some eyes. Hello, Therguy10. I am not an adminstrator on Wikimedia Commons and therefore cannot delete the file myself. I do not understand why you cannot access Commons if you can access English Misplaced Pages. Please explain your reference to "incorrect information". Therguy10, this appears to be about File:The Big Bad Wolf - Wolf’s Revenge logo.jpg that you uploaded with a claim that the image is in the public domain. I do not have the expertise to determine whether or not this image has sufficient originality to be protected by copyright. To me, it is borderline. Sure I can try to explain; it’s an issue in my end that I really need to get fixed but I promise I’m not lying. (It’s an issue that is 100% on my end) I’m getting timed out to the point where sometimes I can’t access the website. It does this with other websites too. So while I might have access one day, I might not the next. (I wasn’t timed out when I uploaded the image; I was timed out when I went to remove it)
My incorrect information was regarding upload date and the source of the image. (I found the image on a site but I’m now unsure that’s the site it was sourced from, an idiotic mistake on my part) I do see the potential issue with the copyright so I will see what I can do.
It may require a temporary fix on my end or I’ll do it at a time when I’m not timed out. Thank you for looking into it though, your information is useful. I hope I haven’t disturbed you; I’m really sorry if I have. :(
