Frietjes, here's a template merge I would support in a heartbeat: ] and ].

Hi there. Thanks for your continued and amazing work. I'm after some help regarding proposed edits to the above infobox. The discussion of the proposed changes is ] and ]. I'd like to develop a sandbox, and made a start ], focused on "organization_status" and "type". But I'm not too sure of the next steps, to test if it works. Do you have any advice, suggestions, or are you able to assist? Thanks. ] (]) 03:24, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
Have you ever contemplated a comprehensive merge of all the college sports team infobox templates? With a handful of options, I think all U.S. college sports could be accommodated and the team infoboxes would then have a uniform appearance across all sports. Just a thought . . . . ] (]) 21:48, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
: the first is already proposed ]. I had thought about the second as well, but it will take more time to work out all the details, since there are differences in the post-season tournament section for various sports. ] (]) 22:19, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
:: I just posted a comment in support of the merge of men's and women's college basketball templates. That pending merge should be a no-brainer, and you are clearly already on top of the two minor issues to be addressed in the combined template.

== A barnstar for you! ==
:: The creation of a combined infobox template for all U.S. college sports teams would require a lot of work and the inclusion of several options, but the core information to be included is common to all. Differences in NCAA playoff structure, etc., could be accommodated by options to be toggled as needed. The payoff would be worth the effort. Not only should these infoboxes have a common appearance within a given sport, the teams affiliated with a given university should also have a common appearance and graphics style, and that can only be accomplished by a common template across all college sports teams. I think you would find the college football, basketball and baseball sports projects to be supportive, and the other college sports do not have active/vocal WikiProjects and tend to follow the lead of the football, basketball and baseball projects. I would be grateful for your help in making this happen, but I also understand that you have numerous pending template projects already. ] (]) 11:14, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

There are 5 things to take care of:

==Change to Template:Infobox Nuclear weapons test==

Frietjes, you made the changes I requested to the nuclear infobox earlier this year. I would request one additional change.

The box has navigation left and right (to the preceding and following test series). I need an additional option, to move upwards. From test series pages I need provide a link to move upwards to country summary pages. The name of the entry could be "Summary" or whatever matches similar use in other infoboxes.

At the country summary pages I need to have an new infobox which will allow navigation to preceding and following summary pages as well as upwards to a world-wide summary page. It would need the name of the country it represents, but everything else I can think of would be immediately available in the table on that page anyway.

Any questions, let me know; I'm watching this page. ] (]) 16:23, 11 May 2014 (UTC)

==Template:Infobox tennis tournament==
Hi, you recently updated this tennis template based on the outcome of a merge discussion. I made a correction to the country field which was pointing to the city field ]. The field 'Established' (data6) has the same function as 'Founded' (data5) so it can be removed. If a field is removed should the fields that follow after it be renumbered or not? Is it possible to do a check to see if there any instances of the template in use where the 'Established' field is filled (and the 'Founded' field is empty)? I'm pretty sure that 'Founded' is the standard field to indicate when a tournament had its inaugural edition but a safety check on the usage of the 'Established' field would be useful. The same applies to 'Location' (data8.1). To the best of my knowledge we only use the 'City' and 'Country' fields which means we could delete 'Location' (the separate field, not the label). --] (]) 15:56, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

:::::::My humble opinion is that a single {{tl|infobox horse race}} could cover almost everything, both recurring races and individual year events with sufficient parameters and instructions. would produce

{{TwoLegStart}}
{{TwoLegResult| {{fb-rt|SCO}} || 1–6 | '''{{fb|NED}}''' || 1–0 | 0–6 }}
|} |}

== Seasons Greetings!==
And to use the module for existing templates, there could be functions for that, so TwoLegStart's code could be replaced with something like <nowiki>{{#invoke: Leg|start|legs=2}}</nowiki>.

And for the optional text for cells:

* {{para|leg|Game}} -> Game 1 (or 1st Game), Game 2 (or 2nd Game) and so one (see the difference between ] and ])
* {{para|score|Pts}} (see ])
* {{para|notes|yes}} (see ], ok, this should be rethinken, because the set of games "if necessary" isn't constant)

== ] and longer cases ==

Hello, Frietjes – thanks for your recent patches to the above.

If, though, conditionals such as <code><nowiki>{{#if:{{{spouses|}}} |{{{spouses|}}} |{{{spouse|}}} }}</nowiki></code> are needed to handle cases where both parameters are specified, should {{tl|Infobox}}es ever include anything like <code class="nowrap"><nowiki>{{{spouses|{{{spouse|}}}}}}</nowiki><code>...? (Sorry that I've still to master this business.)

And if, for example, there were three possibilities ''spouseseses'', ''spouses'' and ''spouse'', would the following be the correct handling?:
: <code><nowiki>{{#if:{{{spouseseses|}}} |{{{spouseseses}}} |{{#if:{{{spouses|}}} |{{{spouses}}} |{{{spouse|}}} }} }}</nowiki></code>
Or, if the possibilities were ''gapbetween'', ''gap'' and a default "1.25em":
: <code><nowiki>{{#if:{{{gapbetween|}}} |{{{gapbetween}}} |{{#if:{{{gap|}}} |{{{gap}}} |1.25em}} }}</nowiki></code>...?

Your confirmations&nbsp;/ corrections would be very helpful. Regards, ] (]) 20:05, 24 June 2014 (UTC)

PS In the first piece of <nowiki><code></nowiki> above, is the pipe in the second {{{spouses{{!}}}}} optional?
* <nowiki>{{{spouses|{{{spouse|}}}}}}</nowiki> is lower in processing complexity than <span class="nowrap"><nowiki>{{#if:{{{spouses|}}} |{{{spouses|}}} |{{{spouse|}}} }}</nowiki></span>, but will return unexpected results if {{para|spouses}} is specified, but left blank.
* my feeling is that <nowiki>{{{spouses|{{{spouse|}}}}}}</nowiki> is perfectly fine, so long as there is no serious chance that someone could try to use both {{para|spouses}} and {{para|spouse}} at the same time.
* for example, suppose that <code>birthdate</code> were deprecated in favour of <code>birth_date</code>, and the documentation had been updated to remove any mention of <code>birthdate</code>. however, since changing to the new syntax might take some time, and editors might mistakenly use the old syntax, you decide to keep both parameters in the code. so, using <nowiki>{{{birth_date|{{{birthdate|}}}}}}</nowiki> is perfectly fine, since there is no serious chance that anyone would try to use both at the same time.
* a more complicated example would be something like
<pre style="overflow:auto">
| label3 = {{#if:{{{founded|}}}|Founded|Established}}
| data3 = {{#if:{{{founded|}}}|{{{founded}}}|{{{established|}}}}}
</pre>
vs.
<pre style="overflow:auto">
| label3 = {{#if:{{{founded|}}}|Founded|Established}}
| data3 = {{#if:{{{founded|{{{established|}}}}}}
</pre>
* here there is a real problem if someone tried to use
<pre style="overflow:auto">
| founded =
| established = 1917
</pre>
* when you start extending this to more than two possible variable names, it may be easier to write
<pre style="overflow:auto">
| data4 = {{ifempty|{{{founded|}}}|{{{established|}}}|{{{foundation|}}}|{{{establishment|}}}}}
</pre>
rather than the equivalent
<pre style="overflow:auto">
| data4 = {{#if:{{{founded|}}}|{{{founded}}}|{{#if:{{{established|}}}|{{{established}}}|{{#if:{{{foundation|}}}|{{{foundation}}}|{{{establishment|}}}}}}}}}
</pre>
although the first is slightly less efficient when all four are empty, since the {{tl|ifempty}} template checks up to <nowiki>{{{10|}}}</nowiki>. but, simplification to the code is probably worth it for more than three variables. note that you wouldn't see any significant reduction in the complexity of the associated label statement.
<pre style="overflow:auto">
| label4 = {{#if:{{{founded|}}}|Founded|{{#if:{{{established|}}}|Established|{{#if:{{{foundation|}}}|Foundation|Establishment}}}}}}

== Orthodox dioceses infoboxes ==

Hello!

Thanks for the strenuous work of merging Orthodox dioceses infoboxes into the generic template.

However, replacing the ''diocese type'' parameter by ''denomination'' (as in ) is, I believe, wrong. There is no such denomination called ''Albanian Orthodox'', the correct denomination is ]. To confirm that, I noticed that article ] states in its lead section that ''Eastern Orthodox'' is a denomination, as does ]. ''Albanian'', ''Greek'', ''Russian'', ''Georgian Orthodox'' are '''local traditions''', that can be mentioned besides rite, language and music, but not confused with them. Notice for instance the use of the word "''tradition''" in the name of ], a body of the ] which conducts liturgy in ], not in Russian. Note however that these local traditions can be most of the time guessed from the name of the Church or exarchate, and that people may not agree on what is a tradition and what is not. Some would argue that there exist no orther tradition in Eastern Orthodoxy besides Greek, Russian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Romanian and Georgian, some would add Albanian, Ukrainian, Japanese, Finnish, and many others. For these reasons I would not be opposed to remove altogether this notion from infoboxes, and mention only, when applicable, the denomination (Eastern Orthodox), Church body, rite, Church language and music style.

Also, the former ''jurisdiction'' parameter would be better replaced by ''sui_iuris_church'' than by ''governance''. This ''sui_iuris_church'' is especially designed for Eastern Churches which often have gained hierarchical independence over the ages.

I hope these comments help. ] (]) 16:51, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

I commented in the linked thread. ] (]) 13:55, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

:: PS If the footnotes section ought not to be collapsed, should the same apply to the "Influenced by" and "Influenced" sections&nbsp;– and also in other infoboxes&nbsp;–?
::: the biggest problem is when a ref/note pair is not collapsed together since clicking on the ref won't take you to the note, or the other way around, depending on which is collapsed. I, personally, don't think the influenced sections should be collapsed. there have been some heated discussions about this, with some editors wanting to completely remove all infoboxes, or at the very least, have them collapsed by default. I would rather not wade into minefield, but there is no reason to collapse more than is necessary. ] (]) 20:17, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

On a number of occasions now I've noticed you've made a whole series of benificial but tedious improvements to various currency articles. These are mostly the type of improvements that are behind the scene's (formatting, wikifying, etc.) and thus might go unrecognized, so I wanted to take a moment to thank you and let you know it's appreciated. Just wanted to say a massive thanks for your work on the Election results template. Not only is it a big help for getting some consistency in presentation, but the automatic totalling and percentage calculation has helped identify several errors in the tables (both from editors mistranscribing numbers from sources, and mistakes in the sources themselves) by comparing the automatically-calculated totals/percentages with those given in the original tables/sources. This will be a big help in maintaining accuracy! Number 57 22:32, 8 September 2020 (UTC)

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:24, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

Module:Location map/data/Montenegro

Hi,

You seams to be the author of Module:Location map/data/Montenegro. Did you maybe also made the maps? They don't seams to have the same limits. Argo Navis (talk) 13:04, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

Argo Navis, although it looks like I am the author, all I did was migrate it from the old Template system to the new Module system. you can see the old template history in the history for the documentation page. I agree that it looks like the relief map doesn't have the same edges as the non-relief map. it looks like the problem started with this edit where the relief map was changed by Obersachse? Help with Template:Summer Olympics by year category navigation

Can you fix Template:Summer Olympics by year category navigation? Because it does not display correctly on recent Olympic basketball categories. For example, Category:2004 Basketball Olympic squad templates (1936–2004) and Category:2008 Summer Olympics basketball squad navigational boxes (2008–2024) have some kind of cutoff. I thought of asking this template's creator for help, but she is blocked indefinitely. Therefore, you are quite familiar with templates so help would be appreciated. – sbaio 13:32, 20 November 2024 (UTC)

sbaio, it looks like the problem is that the name pattern changed between 2004 and 2008. the easiest solution is to move Category:2004 Basketball Olympic squad templates and earlier to Category:2004 Basketball Olympic squad navigational boxes which would still be an accurate category name. harder would be to have the template automatically check for two names. Frietjes (talk) 15:04, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for explanation. I have another question regarding templates in the mentioned categories. Is there a way to summon some kind of bot that would make a mass deletion request for those templates. I have already nominated a bunch of such templates at Misplaced Pages:Templates for discussion/Log/2024 November 18#Basketball national team roster navboxes. However, there are about 156 more such templates that should be deleted. I also thought about WP:SPEEDY, but I am not sure which criteria would fit it. – sbaio 16:03, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
you can make a WP:BOTREQ for tagging a large number of templates for deletion. Frietjes (talk) 16:13, 20 November 2024 (UTC)

Template:T

@Frietjes You added the T template to some redlinks in my sandbox. I don't mind at all, but I was just wondering what the purpose of this was, were the redlinks in the sandbox causing a problem I am unaware of? Demt1298 (talk) 13:50, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

Demt1298, thank you for asking! there are a couple database reports that are generated that keep track of transclusions of missing templates (here and here). by prefixing the missing templates with {{t}} it changes the transclusion to a link and removes it from the clean up list. thank you! Frietjes (talk) 15:13, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
@Frietjes Good to know, so should I just use it while they are in the sandbox, or should I use it for a new article I have written and am awaiting for the linked article to be written in the future? I do quit a bit of WikiProject Football and often am awaiting another article I know will be written to be completed. Demt1298 (talk) 15:45, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
Demt1298, for articles, we usually just comment it out until the template is created. thank you. Frietjes (talk) 16:23, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

Template:Editnotices/Page/Revell has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the entry on the Templates for discussion page. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:58, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

Removing citations

Please go back to articles where you removed citations to Allmovie and fix them. In this edit, for example, you removed a citation to Allmovie simply because some random template was deleted. In all the edits you did this, please go back and restore the citation, cited to the URL that the template used to point to. Unless, of course, you can point to a discussion that has deprecated Allmovie as a reliable source. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 03:41, 24 December 2024 (UTC)

it was decided that AllMovie is no longer a reliable source since it copies WP. for cases where it was quoting a particular critic, I replaced it with a wayback link. Frietjes (talk) 15:59, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
see here as well, seems like this is the preferred action. Frietjes (talk) 17:45, 24 December 2024 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, I'm Cmrc23. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Kulli, Harju County have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. If the station is known for its name having a double meaning, feel free to cite a source, but I don't think that would be the best way to phrase it Cmrc23 ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ 19:30, 27 December 2024 (UTC)

I... clicked the wrong page. I am so sorry Cmrc23 ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ 19:31, 27 December 2024 (UTC)

Smiley

If you think it would make more sense to just redirect {{laugh}} to {{smiley}}, feel free. I only created it as it is because it was the easiest low-knowledge solution. Floquenbeam (talk) 18:31, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

Floquenbeam, yes, that would probably work. I am not sure if {{lol}} is a better redirect, but if the {{smiley}} icon was what it was before, then maybe that's the best. Frietjes (talk) 18:32, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
