Hi, im GenericBobJoe, you sent my IP address a warning for vandalism, the page that I apparently vandalized said the vandalism was in 2007. I got the computer with this IP last year, and I don't think teaneck is gay. I seriously do not know why this is happening. You should TempBan me from editing for now, maybe one day, and i'll see what's wrong with this computer. If this keeps happening,or if you might know anything about this, please reply. -GenericBobJoe

*{{flagicon|Ohio}} ] was also on 224, with an amazing number of good article reviews (56 actually).

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews on 143 good articles, one hundred more than the number of good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Well done all!

Let me explain the logic of the edits I made. For one thing you mentioned the grade links in the infobox. A common thing on encyclopedic sites such as this and wikis are to link to articles in other articles where they are mentioned. Even though everyone most likely has an idea of how grades work there are still articles for ] and such. So that is why I linked to them in high school infoboxes since they are unlikely to be mentioned in the following sections about the school. It's pretty simple. If a government or military article mentions food (i.e. ]) why not link to it although we all know what pizza is (or at least we should)? Anyway I see why you raised it as 10th and 11th grades are excluded. Perhaps I should remove the links. Anyway I was unaware of the sample school infobox. I thought it was superfluous and unnecessary to have "]" listed as the type in the infobox when it is in the title of most secondary schools as well as the opening sentences in the articles. I still think adding the link in infoboxes is not needed as the reader is aware that it is a high school. Also to be even more specific instead of merely linking ] to "high school" in American high school articles, I believe linking ] is better. So it looks like some resolution has to be made. Can you link me to the sample school infobox model so I can look it over? ] (]) 23:22, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

== Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews ==

The special focus this year will be the launch of our "400 Neighborhoods" campaign for the city's 400th anniversary and ].
Hello {{BASEPAGENAME}}. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to ''you'' in particular.<p>The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when ] in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.<p>If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied ''from the draft'', rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the is very useful for sussing that out.)<p>If you do find a copyright violation, please ''do not'' decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Misplaced Pages to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using <nowiki>{{db-g12|url=</nowiki><tt>URL of source</tt>}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with <nowiki>{{subst:copyvio|url=</nowiki><tt>URL of source</tt>}}.<p>Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with ]; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.<p> I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--] (]) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Sent via--] (]) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

I told you not once but twice that there was nothing further to discuss but you continued to post your arrogant crap at my talk. Now I will tell you in simpler language that hopefully you can understand. STAY OFF MY TALK PAGE!!! Please note that is to be in no way construed as a request. I will continue to edit any article I please, even in and about your kingdom. When a person makes an edit summary stating that they are editing on behalf of the administration of the school which page they are editing, they from that point forward will always have a coi. It does not matter that the school is in jersey. The same rules apply there as in the other 49 states and the rest of the English speaking world. I have never attempted to edit any article on a school in Jersey to get it within guidelines that you haven't showed up and said thats not the way we do it in jersey. Well contrary to your opinion there is value in having some uniformity in articles on the same general subject such as schools. Now..BYE ~~

New and experienced editors are welcome. The event will include a training session for participants who are new to Misplaced Pages and Misplaced Pages specialists will be on hand to provide basic instruction and editing support.

Can’t join us in New York? Visit our global MENA Artists Month partnership page to coordinate international and online events as well.

Time: Presentation: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm, Edit-a-thon: 2:30pm - 6:00pm

Next year's competition begins on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; it is open to all Wikipedians, new and old. WikiCup 2019 March newsletter

And so ends the first round of the competition. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2. With 56 contestants qualifying, each group in Round 2 contains seven contestants, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for Round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining contestants.

Our top scorers in Round 1 were:

  • United States L293D, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with ten good articles on submarines for a total of 357 points.
  • Adam Cuerden, a WikiCup veteran, came next with 274 points, mostly from eight featured pictures, restorations of artwork.
  • Denmark MPJ-DK, a wrestling enthusiast, was in third place with 263 points, garnered from a featured list, five good articles, two DYKs and four GARs.
  • United States Usernameunique came next at 243, with a featured article and a good article, both on ancient helmets.
  • Squeamish Ossifrage was in joint fifth place with 224 points, mostly garnered from bringing the 1937 Fox vault fire to featured article status.
  • Ohio Ed! was also on 224, with an amazing number of good article reviews (56 actually).

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews on 143 good articles, one hundred more than the number of good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Well done all!

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Misplaced Pages talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! WikiCup 2022 September newsletter

In response to your opinion on Freehold Raceway Mall "puffery"

Hi Alansohn. In case you did not receive my response on my Talk page, I'll just reinsert the message here on your talk page. If you agree that listing a few stores on a mall article would not classify as 'puffery', then why exactly did do you remove the list of stores then? If you agree that simply having a list of a few stores isn't 'puffery', then I'm glad we both have a mutual understanding. I'd imagine you would consult with me if you have any issues. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Freeholdman12 (talkcontribs) 5 June 2023 (UTC)

WikiCup 2023 September newsletter

The fourth round of the competition has finished, with anyone scoring less than 673 points being eliminated. It was a high scoring round with all but one of the contestants who progressed to the final having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were

  • New York (state) Epicgenius, with 2173 points topping the scores, gained mainly from a featured article, 38 good articles and 9 DYKs. He was followed by
  • Sammi Brie, with 1575 points, gained mainly from a featured article, 28 good articles and 50 good article reviews. Close behind was
  • Thebiguglyalien, with 1535 points mainly gained from a featured article, 15 good articles, 26 good article reviews and lots of bonus points.

Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Misplaced Pages talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.

I will be standing down as a judge after the end of the contest. I think the Cup encourages productive editors to improve their contributions to Misplaced Pages and I hope that someone else will step up to take over the running of the Cup. Sturmvogel 66 (talk), and Cwmhiraeth (talk)

Questions about URLs

Today I learned about better ways of linking external links with the url template and went to go check the Englewood Cliffs NJ page and noticed your change to use the url template. I feel like an idiot that I wasn't editing with this format and instead using example.com instead.

Can you tell me a little about why its better to use the url template and if there is any downsides to using it.

Thank you so much for the help. 68.173.170.185 (talk) 23:44, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. John Hart in Hopewell

While editing John Hart, I noticed that he was listed as a notable person of Hopewell, New Jersey, but was not in Category:People from Hopewell, New Jersey. He lived on his farm on Hart Avenue in Hopewell from 1742 to 1779 and has a memorial at the Old School Baptist Church and Cemetery of Hopewell. Shouldn't he be in the category? Thanks, Zeete (talk) 11:16, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

  • Zeete, Hart's article places him in Hopewell Township. He died in 1779, and Hopewell Borough was not formed until 1891. I had added Hart as a notable in Hopewell, New Jersey, in this edit that was made 17 years ago. An archived copy of that source quoted there says "John Hart lived in Hopewell Township, in what is now the town of Hopewell, which was then known locally as Baptist Meeting House, for the church there."I don't see that this source means that he lived in Hopewell Borough and I hadn't seen anything in his article to support a connection to Hopewell Borough, so that's why I removed the category.I greatly respect your work on the historical aspects of the state and I may be missing something, but I don't see it. How to send you information?

I was looking at the wiki page for Franklin Township Warren County. I have a famous person, Buzzie Reutimann, who stayed in our farm when racing the Northeast. He was one of the top Modified drivers in the northeast. He son David who also lived here during racing season went on to a brief stint in the NASCAR circuit. Buzzie is still racing (he’s 82!) in Florida. You can find them on wiki 2601:89:C501:9620:85E6:BA8:CF94:B32F (talk) 13:51, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
