:::: I go over them improving by the ]. BWV 22 was for last Sunday. Now nothing until Oculi and Palm Sunday, followed by Easter. If you could also look up the next, that would be very helpful. Follow the link, find ], you get to BWV 54 and BWV 80a, followed by BWV 132 and BWV 1. - Different topic: "potentially misleading", - everything we add here is potentially misleading, but we don't stop editing because this is so, no? I don't believe that an infobox has more potential to mislead than other features. Parameters which might mislead should be omitted or phrased with special care, instead of not having that "peep in" - as ] called it - altogether. --] (]) 13:38, 16 February 2015 (UTC) | |||
* The ] has concluded with the appointment of two new CheckUsers. | |||
::::: I consider infoboxes oversimplifying and often unnecessary - and classical music is one of the areas where playing with "genres" and other similar "parameters" really could make confusion - the facts are often too complicated to be listed as isolated noncontextualized parameters in a table. But first of all, I really don't like imposing of any uniformed features to all articles, especially when they are imposed with little respect to editors who actually write the articles. But it's just my opinion. I don't like uniformity, imposed as a rule. --] (] / ]) 15:52, 16 February 2015 (UTC) | |||

---- | |||
:::::: I don't see where you would find the attempt to "rule" that all articles uniformly have to have infoboxes. I never claimed that, nor did any other I know. (The view seems another oversimplification.) In articles I create, I usually also create an infobox. I leave articles of others alone, would do so even without restriction. In the actual case, however, I found that the diligent work of an IP, improved by several others, was simply reverted, without an explanation to the IP who really can't know that classical composers are topics to be handled differently from the rest of Misplaced Pages. :You've archived your talk page up to December 2014, since that time you remove messages manually. *:Thank you so much {{u|Vejvančický}} and {{u|Swarm}}, I respect your concern on copyvio and the competence issue I had in my first few weeks on wikipedia. Several experienced editors gave some useful advice which I followed and many thanks to {{u|DGG}} who mentored and changed my edit habit. After the case was closed at ANI in that September 2014 (about six months ago) my edit behavior had completely changed and having been familiar with basic Misplaced Pages's policies, I had created about 141 valid articles (well referenced) not including a redirect or disambiguation pages with no such concern, which clearly shows that am familiar with policies. == A Question == | |||
Hi Vejvančický, how are you? The Transylvania events in 1848-49 was obviously complex and tragic. In an attempt to not falling into the trick of favoring or blaming either ethnic/nationalistic narratives (be it Hungarian or Romanian), being balanced and neutral is the key. So I wonder where would be the best places (book) to get a full picture of what happened in Transylvania between 1848-49 or probably other preludes to it? I am only asking this because the article posted on EN wiki is far from it. ] (]) 21:16, 10 September 2024 (UTC) | |||
:Hi, I'm ok, thanks. I touched the article ] during a ] back in 2010(!). I have no knowledge of Romanian or Hungarian, so I'd stick to English literature on G-books or JSTOR. The ethnic perspective/point od view is often a problem in this part of Europe. I agree that the article is far from being perfect, I just added some reliable information proving there's a room for expansion. I'm no expert in this area. ] (] / ]) 06:39, 17 September 2024 (UTC) | |||
::Thank you for your response. It seems the ethnic perspective/point od view is often a problem in areas where complexities of multi-ethnicity are involved and history has been way too complex to use ethnic/national narratives as explanation. For instance, I read that there were "complex grey areas" in Hungarian Revolution 1848-49 when armies of both sides were racially and linguistically mixed (common sign for multi-national states), soldiers (and officers) were recruited or join for various reasons (volunteer, forced conscription, batter pay, employment etc.), not simply a case of who support XX side. the problematic discipline of different armies (be it regular or militia) and disregard for human lives and values (in comparison to today's world, but even today's world these problems still exist unfortunately) also presented a major challenge back then. The longer one's fighting the longer one could have become more insensitive. For instance, I've read it after being routed at Novara 1849, there were stragglers of Sardinian army who felt bitter because of being "involuntarily" conscripted for fighting the war, and they looted their own countrymen from villages as they passed through. And Novi Sad's population fell from 20000 to 7000 (including those who returned later) and 3/4 of town was devastated. ] (]) 17:51, 20 September 2024 (UTC) | |||
:::followed the last paragraph, ...and 3/4 was devasted after heavy bombardment and then being captured by Hungarians in 1848-49 War. There were cases of the battlefield close to village and casualties of civilian population occurred as a result... Really sad. ] (]) 17:56, 20 September 2024 (UTC) | |||
== Following "A question" == | |||
If convenient and possible for you, would it be okay if we discuss via emails? Please reply thank you. ] (]) 21:24, 10 September 2024 (UTC) | |||
== ], a true legend == | |||
Hello Antonín, I have had a brief look at your article on ], which I find really good. Would you please consider expanding the article on ], too? The condition whereof is rather embarrassing, given the renownness of the personality, albeit in the Czech and Czechoslovak milieu. In other words, do we need to provide English information on him and his merit only after he passes away? I daresay he deserves a much better and larger entry, but my own Misplaced Pages editting skills are, mildly speaking, insufficient. Thank you for considering the issue, of course if you have enough time for it. Srdečně, ] (]) 18:34, 30 September 2024 (UTC) After all, the Master turns 93 tomorrow! | |||
:Hi, I always liked Šlitr more than Suchý but I admit that Suchý is a legend of Czech theatre. I'd like to expand, but as you say - I don't have enough time to focus on it. Maybe one day ... would you mind to check the grammar if I do so? I'm loosing contact with English written word and I think it is more and more visible in my contributions :( Misplaced Pages needs excellent writers. ] (] / ]) 13:46, 14 October 2024 (UTC) | |||

Administrators' newsletter – December 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2022).
Interface administrator changes
- Consensus has been found in an RfC to automatically place RfAs on hold after one week.
- The article creation at scale RfC has been closed.
- An RfC on the banners for the December 2022 fundraising campaign has been closed.
- A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. (T319449)
- Eligible users are invited to vote on candidates for the Arbitration Committee until 23:59 December 12, 2022 (UTC). Candidate statements can be seen here.
- The proposed decision for the 2021-22 review of the discretionary sanctions system is open.
- The arbitration case Reversal and reinstatement of Athaenara's block has been closed.
- The arbitration case Stephen has been opened and the proposed decision is expected 1 December 2022.
- A motion has modified the procedures for contacting an admin facing Level 2 desysop.
- Tech tip: A single IPv6 connection usually has access to a "subnet" of 18 quintillion IPs. Add
/64
to the end of an IP in Special:Contributions to see all of a subnet's edits, and consider blocking the whole subnet rather than an IP that may change within a minute.

- Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
- As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.
- Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Misplaced Pages until some time in 2024.
- The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
- Following a community referendum, the arbitration policy has been modified to remove the ability for users to appeal remedies to Jimbo Wales.

Administrators' newsletter – August 2023

Interface administrator changes
- The tag filter on Special:NewPages and revision history pages can now be inverted. This allows hiding edits made by automated tools. (T334338)
- Special:BlockedExternalDomains is a new tool that allows easier blocking of plain domains (and their subdomains). This is more easily searchable and is faster for the software to use than the existing MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. It does not support regex (for complex cases), URL path-matching, or the MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist. (T337431)
- The arbitration cases named Scottywong and AlisonW closed 10 July and 16 July respectively.
- The SmallCat dispute arbitration case is in the workshop phase.

- @filelakeshoe - Thank you for your help, everything in the article is verifiable. From my today's point of view, it would deserve a more professional (musicological) rewrite, as I tried to write not only encyclopedic entry, but also an interesting story of life and work .. and I'm just a fan or admirer of Janáček's work, not musical scientist. - Following an RfC, TFAs will be automatically semi-protected the day before it is on the main page and through the day after.
- A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that
ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment
.
- Special:Contributions now shows the user's local edit count and the account's creation date. (T324166)
- The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming
local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus
. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged tonote when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful

News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2023).
- Following a talk page discussion, the Administrators' accountability policy has been updated to note that while it is considered best practice for administrators to have notifications (pings) enabled, this is not mandatory. Now, non-extended-confirmed editors may use the "Talk:" namespace solely to make edit requests related to articles within the topic area, provided that their actions are not disruptive.

Jožo Nižnánsky
Hello. Why you have trimmed article? It gives me a lot of work to compile. Wikipcontributor800 (talk) 09:09, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi User:Wikipcontributor800, your submission was declined because it was poorly sourced. I started again by adding two reliable sources and I added some basic information proving he is notable (I know very well he is but other editors around here may not know). Your revisions are still in the history and can be restored, but don't forget to verify your claims by reliable sources. Let me know if you need any help. Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 06:38, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- In fact, in my last editions I have added more sources.
- Anyway, I admit they could have been seen as unreliable.
- I would like to express my gratitude to you for your interest in participating on draft, I really appreciate it. Let it be trimmed, but reliable and submitted. Wikipcontributor800 (talk) 09:44, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
- Now, to discussion on article.
- E.g.
- I had added section ,,Legacy" with claim/statement:
- there is a street in Brestovany municipality named in honour of JN, citing google maps-position as source.
- Thank you for your advice and participating on draft. Wikipcontributor800 (talk) 09:52, 27 January 2024 (UTC)

July music

3 July is the birthday of Leoš Janáček, and I'm happy I had a meaningful DYK in 2021: thank you for did for his article! - It's also the birthday of Franz Kafka, and I uploaded pics from his family's album seen in Berlin. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:09, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Gerda . I scrolled through your page of stories and I must say ... your choice, variety and variability of topics, overall beauty and aesthetic of your contributions is so close to my heart like nothing else on Misplaced Pages. I'm sending you my favourite and most beautiful piece from On an Overgrown Path, it's performed by lesser known but excellent Jan Jiraský, who connects very well the lyrical expression and urgent or maybe even anxious rhythmical contradiction present in many of Janáček's works in one moment. Enjoy and ... be well. Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 08:42, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- blushing - thank you for understanding! I listened with joy! The closest I came to Janáček was singing the Glagolitic Mass in choir, understanding how his music is language-driven and so expressive. Seeing the Vixen (not cunning, not little) in Munich was also great. - I added a few images, - keep looking at story music places, - for example today's music matching the Italian tenor of the story. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:29, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- Libuše Domanínská - yesterday's story - would have turned 100 today, but I missed that ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:15, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- Of course I know that name, although I'm not the biggest opera fan. Good article, thank you :) Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 11:21, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! - Pictured on the Main page: Brian's Mozart family grand tour, my story today, and Mozart related to all three items of music on my talk: our 2023 concert, an opera in a theatre where a Mozart premiere took place, and those remembered, Martti Wallén, a bass, and Liana Isakadze, a violinist from Georgia (whose article would be better with more details about her music-making). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:43, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
- My story today is - because of the anniversary of the premiere OTD in 1782 - about Die Entführung aus dem Serail, opera by Mozart, while yesterday's was - because of the TFA - about Les contes d'Hoffmann, opera by Offenbach, - so 3 times Mozart again if you click on "music" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:30, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Today's story is about a photographer who took iconic pictures, especially View from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Manhattan, 9/11, yesterday's was a great mezzo, and on Thursday we watched a sublime ballerina. If that's not enough my talk offers chamber music from two amazing concerts. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:08, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
- Gerda - that's wonderful work. You should work for Grove! Misplaced Pages is lucky to have you :) Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 12:55, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- Misplaced Pages:Main Page history/2024 July 30b had a baritone, a violinist, a composer and a Bach cantata, - almost too much, and the composer's article, Wolfgang Rihm, improved much over the last days, could still grow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:38, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Gerda. So Wolfgang Rihm died? A very well known name among contemporary composers. Sad news... but also an inspiration - to listen to his work tonight. Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 12:55, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yes. I just began an article on one more of his operas, translating, Oedipus. There are several red links in his article, and the works' articles. Even if you don't understand German you may want to watch him talking - in an interview at the end of his article. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:10, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

A Question
Hi Vejvančický, how are you? The Transylvania events in 1848-49 was obviously complex and tragic. In an attempt to not falling into the trick of favoring or blaming either ethnic/nationalistic narratives (be it Hungarian or Romanian), being balanced and neutral is the key. So I wonder where would be the best places (book) to get a full picture of what happened in Transylvania between 1848-49 or probably other preludes to it? I am only asking this because the article posted on EN wiki is far from it. 2604:3D09:D07F:E580:0:0:0:A28A (talk) 21:16, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm ok, thanks. I touched the article 1848–1849 massacres in Transylvania during a deletion discussion back in 2010(!). Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 06:39, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response. 2604:3D09:D07D:6250:F0C9:ABF4:13C8:1D11 (talk) 17:51, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
- followed the last paragraph, ...and 3/4 was devasted after heavy bombardment and then being captured by Hungarians in 1848-49 War. There were cases of the battlefield close to village and casualties of civilian population occurred as a result... Really sad. 2604:3D09:D07D:6250:F0C9:ABF4:13C8:1D11 (talk) 17:56, 20 September 2024 (UTC)

Jiří Suchý, a true legend
Hello Antonín, I have had a brief look at your article on Jiří Šlitr, which I find really good. Would you please consider expanding the article on Jiří Suchý, too? The condition whereof is rather embarrassing, given the renownness of the personality, albeit in the Czech and Czechoslovak milieu. In other words, do we need to provide English information on him and his merit only after he passes away? I daresay he deserves a much better and larger entry, but my own Misplaced Pages editting skills are, mildly speaking, insufficient. Thank you for considering the issue, of course if you have enough time for it. Srdečně, Zinædryl kinéaedrilleur (talk) 18:34, 30 September 2024 (UTC) After all, the Master turns 93 tomorrow!
- Hi, I always liked Šlitr more than Suchý but I admit that Suchý is a legend of Czech theatre. I'd like to expand, but as you say - I don't have enough time to focus on it. Maybe one day ... would you mind to check the grammar if I do so? I'm loosing contact with English written word and I think it is more and more visible in my contributions :( Misplaced Pages needs excellent writers. Marco
Vejvančický, you're a rare visitor to en:WP these days. I hope all is well.
Recently I perpetrated the article Jindřich Marco, about a man with a remarkable biography. As somebody with no knowledge of Czech, I'm sure I made spelling mistakes, and I probably did worse things too. If you have ten minutes to spare, do please give it a look. (Even better if you happen to know something about numismatics, an area of which I know nothing whatever.) -- Hoary (talk) 02:17, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
