== Calgary Roughnecks 2017 Roster/Template Problems ==
==]==

Hi,
This is a notice to let you know about ''''']''''', a ] subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering ], ], ] and other workflows (]). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found ].

So I went and edited the template the best I could for the new season and the Roughnecks.
If you are already subscribed to ''Article Alerts'', it is now easier to ] and ]. We are also in the process of implementing a ], which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the <code>display=none</code> parameter, but forget to '''give a link''' to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Misplaced Pages:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at ].<!--Addbot-WP-Message-Article-alerts-01-->

I submitted the edit and when you go here ] it shows my edit perfectly.
<small>Message sent by ] to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome ].</small>

However, if you return to the ] page, it's as if I didn't touch it. I'm stumped.
Thanks. — ]&nbsp;{]]&nbsp;&ndash;&nbsp;]} 09:20, 15 March, 2009 (UTC)

== Playoff scores ==
Current discussion at ] about moving the page from the current title to ] or ]. Overall, I think the question raised here could be raised of all of the WP:Lax international pages. Should articles be organized as "Lacrosse in ...." or by international governing bodies? Opinions wanted. Thanks, ] (]) 11:39, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

For both 2016 NLL season and 2017 NLL season the scores for the playoff games are missing. 2015 has them so I was wondering why not now. Saying a team won a best of three series 2-0 or 2-1 with no scores doesn't seem helpful. ] (]) 05:43, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
== The switch for MLL Team (Infobox) templates ==
{{resolved}}
] has apparently edited all of the ] to switch from the former {{]}} template to his or her newer {{]}} template via several changes made back in late August, 2008. This project page still recommends the former not the latter. You active ] project members may want to decide which infobox you prefer and make some adjustments (either edit this project page to agree with mcfarland (and perhaps also delete the older obsolete template), or edit all the teams' articles to switch back to the older template (and request the deletion of the newer template)). I recently edited the newer MLL Team template to add back in the |website= parameter that had been omitted from it. The omission had left the website url on all team pages undisplayed (until just recently). I hope that helps you out. ] (]) 23:52, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
:I have re-written {{tl|MLL Team Infobox}} using {{tl|infobox}}. All the parameters are exactly the same as {{tl|MLL Team}} and I made {{tl|MLL Team}} a redirect to {{tl|MLL Team Infobox}} so everything is done and taken care of. --] ''']''' 06:12, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

== Game logs on season pages == == Hartford Hawks lacrosse ==

] was saved from Speedy Deletion yesterday. Hopefully, the brand new editor will return to finish the article (if he hasn't decided after the CSD that Misplaced Pages is not worth the effort). In the meantime, I've done what I can, but I know nothing about lacross or the Hartford Hawks. If anyone else can make a few edits to save this article from a future threat of CSD, it would be beneficial. ] (]) 21:34, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
This was mentioned a couple of months ago: ] and I'm finally getting around to making the change. I've put a sample log ] for the 2005 Toronto Rock. It is more explicit with the score (highest score is always listed first, but there's a "W" or "L", only the opponent is listed (with '@' if it's an away game), and the goalie is no longer listed. Let me know what you think. --] (], ]) 14:47, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
:Looks great. When comparing ] by ], your sandbox version looks a lot cleaner and easier to read. As stated by you & JC in the initial discussion, the GK decision section doesn't seem necessary. Looking at the NHL logs, I think they are way to busy. Only thing I would consider in the future is adding a "Recap" or reference column for each game. For now, the general pointstreak reference is fine. -] (]) 15:10, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
::I added a boxscore column with links to each game, but I'm not sure I like it. ]. Comments or suggestions? --] (], ]) 15:54, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
:::*I see you updated the Game logs. They look good. Figured I would just come back and comment. I believe my suggestion for a reference column with boxscore was flawed. Looking at other leagues game-logs - they have this column. Adding this column I thought would increase the verifiability of the log - as it does for others leagues. However, the NLL logs have a general reference in the header that links to the same information. My suggestion would have only added to the ''appearance'' of verifiability, not actual increase it. So I think the changes are right on. Thanks. ] (]) 20:28, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
::::Excellent job on the Game Logs. I meant to follow through with it when I brought up the initial conversion but my time has been few and far between lately. Again, great work!! ] (]) 14:30, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

== Lacrosse article revised ==
Currently, there's no infobox template really suited for college lacrosse teams (like there is for ] and ]). At present, the few college team articles use a template for association football (soccer), which isn't ideal since it uses British English words and links to football-specific things. I don't have the technical knowledge of template syntax to do it myself at the moment. Is there anyone with the know-how who would be interested in making an infobox template specifically for college lacrosse teams? ] (]) 03:51, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

== Tehoka Nanticoke ==
::Great! The ] is actually not too bad for our purposes, and with a few tweaks it could be used as a starting point for a lax-specific template. Maybe add two more NCAA tournament fields for NCAA quarterfinals and semifinals, and a non-tournament championship field for years predating the NCAA tournament (Wingate Trophy, etc.). Also, if anyone knows how to do it, if there's a way to change the uniform to get rid of the socks and maybe add a helmet/gloves it'd be perfectly suited for lacrosse teams. ] (]) 22:15, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

{{Done}} as a functional infobox but more can be done: {{tl|Infobox College Lacrosse Team}}. I'm pretty sure it uses ''most'' of the same parameters as the soccer one but make sure and check when you are switching. Also, I've only seen the uniform thing on the soccer templates and I don't think it really works well for lacrosse. --] ] 03:36, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Look at these suggestions: ]. <s>While I don't think the PLL is an important milestone for lacrosse</s>, I don't care what motivates people to work on the project's goals. == GAN backlog reduction - Sports and recreation ==
As you may know, we currently have 400 ], with a large number of them being in the sports and recreation section. As such, the waiting time for this is especially long, much longer than it should be. As a result of this, I am asking each sports-related WikiProject to review two or three of these nominations. If this is abided by, then the backlog should be cleared quite quickly. Some projects nominate a lot but don't review, or vice-versa, and following this should help to provide a balance and make the waiting time much smaller so that our articles can actually get reviewed! ] 23:39, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? Hey all!
Feel free to raise any questions or concerns regarding this process. The task will commence after 72 hours if there are no objections. <!-- User talk:Xenobot Mk V/process -->

I am planning on having a WikiConference North America sports panel December 12 3:00 EST. This is something that has never been done before and there are many sports which are "native" to North America and part of the America identity. What it seems to be is that we (you, me, and other members of WikiSports) will be in a Zoom (or other video conferencing app) to discuss our experiences in editing sports on Misplaced Pages. These can range from combating vandalism to how to best get permission to use sports photos. The organizers of WikiConference North America (WCNA) created an ] surrounding planning which I will link . if you Command F "sports" you will find the section. This will be the very first panel WCNA has ever had on sports so not much to go off of here.

The ] (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. I saw there were similar articles created recently for other college sports (football, hockey, and basketball), and decided to make one of these for lacrosse head coaches. The arbitrary cut-off that I used was 250 wins.

HI LAX LOVERS! How do I join this group officially? I play for the Austrian National Team (just came off World Cup!) and played in the UK BUCS league in undergrad and grad school. I used the 2009 NCAA record book and added the past seasons results for active coaches, but did notice that the NCAA record book does not count ]'s record at the University of Baltimore (1973&ndash;1975), which would put him at either 237 or 282 wins, depending on whether you count those or not. To my knowledge, UBalt was Division II at the time, so those wins should count towards his all-time NCAA record. Oddly, the NCAA record book counted Richie Meade's wins/losses at UBalt from 1979 to 1982, so I don't know if there was an oversight with Edell or whether there were NCAA violations or something of which I am not aware (and sort of doubt) during his tenure there.
Anyone have anything on this? ] (]) 01:59, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

== Project-independent quality assessments ==
'''''re: Dick Edell'''''

Quality assessments by Misplaced Pages editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at ], but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent ] was approved and has been implemented to add a {{para|class}} parameter to {{tl|WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.
:* I see nothing 'suspicious' in U B's schedule for that period. U B's 1973 schedule is tough with opponents Ohio Wesleyan, Roanoke, Maryland (1973 DI champ), Hofstra (#6 seed DI), Washington Shoremen (USILA finalist), Towson, UMBC & Washington & Lee (#4 seed DI). Baltimore reached the USILA (non-Division I year-end tournament) quarterfinals against Washington beating Roanoke to get there. Further research -- "5-12-75 Salisbury Times - Ohio Wesleyan and Morgan State, ranked 10th and llth in last week's USILA College Division poll were included in the (tournament) field over the teams which ranked seventh, eighth and ninth — Roanoke, Adelphi and Baltimore U". UB's schedule looks legitimate, nothing so far on any violations. I'd suggest including Baltimore's wins/losses as part of Edell's overall coaching record. Thanks ! --] (]) 01:11, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{tl|WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.
::*Thanks for checking into that. Edell's UB record is included in the list and on his article. I had the feeling that the NCAA figure was wrong, but it is bizarre that they just didn't count the UB games for Edell, while they did for I think ]. ] (]) 21:13, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{tl|WPBannerMeta}} a new {{para|QUALITY_CRITERIA|custom}} parameter. I thought this was a done deal back in but obviously not. A handful of editors input at all. And it's being challenged because we just noticed it. This could affect almost every single tennis and Olympic article we have, and goodness know how many other sports. Some may have already been moved it you weren't watching the article. And not just the article titles will be affected but all the player bios that link to the articles. Sure the links would be piped to the right place if thousands of articles moved, but if the wording in a bio still said ] or ] that would likely need to be changed by hand. There is also talk of removing the ndash completely.

== Removing Player Nationality Flags ==

I have been working on updating some NLL pages for the upcoming season and have noticed that most teams which have rosters on their page are horribly out of date (we're talking years behind). I believe a major reason for this is that next to each player's name is their nationality. This makes it way too hard to update because often times it is EXTREMELY difficult to find where a lesser known player was born. As such, I am starting to remove these flags from the roster section of each team's page. I hope that nobody here disagrees with this as it really isn't pertinent information anyway, and it will make it a lot easier to keep this information up to date! --] (]) 21:30, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

== ~ Additions to the "Box Lacrosse (Goalie)" page? ~ ==

I greatly appreciate everyone who participated in the making of the Box Lacrosse Goalie page. It was much needed, as the sport is growing quite rapidly

However, I would like to see more recent pictures of goaltenders, at a higher level, and sporting more modern gear. There are too many pictures that are nice enough, yet show the goaltender sporting small/unconventional/outdated gear; and I am afraid that is not as appealing to readers.

I would love for a recent photo of a goaltender to be added, to give the readers a fresher and more accurate view of the position. A couple pictures of any current box goaltender (preferably Matt Vinc, Evan Kirk, Tyler Carlson, etc.) playing in a recent NLL game, properly dressed in modern and appropriate gear, would be absolutely perfect.

Also, on a lesser note, a small section on the goalie gloves would be nice. A picture of the new Under Armour goalie gloves that are given to each NLL goaltender would work perfectly.

Simply search up "NLL goaltenders" (or any of the names I listed two lines above) on Google Images, and you will find more than enough options to add.

If these two things are accomplished, I confidently believe that more readers will be attracted to the page, and will return more than one time for reference in the future.

Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words. A great picture is worth a million.

Any takers? <small class="autosigned">—&nbsp;Preceding ] comment added by ] (]) 03:19, 24 May 2015 (UTC)</small><!-- Template:Unsigned IP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

:Good point the images that are currently on the ] page are quite outdated and don't include any notable goalies. For example the wooden sticks and youth players. I will try to get some images soon for the page and ask other box lacrosse fans if they can as well.

Happy Editing! ] (]) 06:18, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

::That is ridiculous. Yes, it could use a pic of an NLL goalie... but wooden sticks are still a high percentage of what goalies use in the OLA (therefore still modern).... whether it is MSL, Sr. B, Jr. A, B, or C... and the OLA is the hotbed of the sport. Most of the goalies are from last year and are wearing legally-sized Boddam, which is the benchmark for the sport. Also, older equipment has a place on the article as a reference point for the advancement of the sport's technology. I would also like to point out the "Stick and Gloves" section to the anon, we could add a pic of a glove there... want to provide a "free" image of one? Also, does anyone have a "free-use" image of an NLL goalie? ] (]) 09:31, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

:::Good point DMighton wooden sticks are still quite popular in box lacrosse leagues today. I was thinking maybe non-wooden sticks would be more appealing to the viewers but now that I think about it that isn't very logical. Sorry for the inconvenience. ] (]) 19:32, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

::I have added Tye Belanger of the Colorado Mammoth as the lead image of the article. It was taken Summer of 2014, in the OLA's Senior B League. Most NLL players usually spend their summers in the OLA or BC Sr. Leagues. He is wearing regulation gear. I would like to add that there is only one image of youth lacrosse in the article. There is one of Senior, 2 of Junior B, one youth photo (Midget A), and one just generic goalie photo... the first four of these are all in modern and legal gear.

::I can get some pics of a Warrior Wall stick to go with the wooden one... maybe even some gloves... can't guarantee what brand they are though, only NLL goalies get free gear from sponsors usually. ] (]) 19:44, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

:::If you can you get an image of gloves you should definitely do that. Also nice shot of Tye Belanger great picture. ] (]) 22:11, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

::I'll ask one of the Windsor Clippers goalies if they'll let me shoot their gloves. Thanks, that is Tye with the Sarnia Beavers... the team has relocated to Wallaceburg (Thrashers)... Calgary Roughnecks 2017 Roster/Template Problems

Hi,

So I went and edited the template the best I could for the new season and the Roughnecks.

I submitted the edit and when you go here Template:Calgary_Roughnecks_roster it shows my edit perfectly.

However, if you return to the Calgary Roughnecks page, it's as if I didn't touch it. I'm stumped.

Cheers, --WestJet (talk) 06:28, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

Playoff scores

For both 2016 NLL season and 2017 NLL season the scores for the playoff games are missing. 2015 has them so I was wondering why not now. Saying a team won a best of three series 2-0 or 2-1 with no scores doesn't seem helpful. LordAtlas (talk) 05:43, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Hartford Hawks lacrosse

Hartford Hawks lacrosse was saved from Speedy Deletion yesterday. — Maile (talk) 21:34, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

I cleaned up and added sources to the Lacrosse at the Summer Olympics articles. I am looking for more contributors to review the articles and add material. The articles could really use more sources. Anybody with some newspaper archive expertise would be helpful. I do have one lead: The Baltimore Sun magazine section on April 5, 1951, June 26, 1955, and April 23, 1978 has articles on the 1928 Olympics. Thanks.

Make active

I want to make this page active again, but I’m not sure if I would be able to. Is there anyone who could help me revitalize this project at an important time for lacrosse with the forming of the PLL? Twooeight (talk) 16:06, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

I made it active. It's as simple as that. As for the work getting people to contribute again, that's a bit harder. Look at these suggestions: Misplaced Pages:WikiProject_Council/Guide#Revival. While I don't think the PLL is an important milestone for lacrosse, I don't care what motivates people to work on the project's goals. Dig in and the more the merrier.
Also, please see my sections above on Lacrosse at the Olympics and improving the lead article Lacrosse. Or just read the articles and make some edits to improve them! Thanks. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 04:05, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

To do list

I propose:

  1. clearing the open and ongoing tasks except the most recent addition by Twooeight. The old Did you knows? could go too.
  2. moving infoboxes, categories, maybe resources to subpages linked on the main page.
  3. looking for a really good project page to use as an example.
  4. reaching out to active members and soliciting new members with posts to the talk pages of major articles.

WikiConference North America

Hey all!

The organizers of WikiConference North America (WCNA) created an Etherpad surrounding planning which I will link here. if you Command F "sports" you will find the section. This will be the very first panel WCNA has ever had on sports so not much to go off of here.

Please ping me if you have questions as this page is not on my watchlist. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 20:43, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources

Main page: User:Headbomb/unreliable

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Misplaced Pages. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Misplaced Pages editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Misplaced Pages:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Major RfC on capitalization of all our articles

I thought this was a done deal back in this 2022 RFC but obviously not. A handful of editors did another rfc with no sports projects input at all. And it's being challenged because we just noticed it. This could affect almost every single tennis and Olympic article we have, and goodness know how many other sports. Some may have already been moved it you weren't watching the article. And not just the article titles will be affected but all the player bios that link to the articles. Sure the links would be piped to the right place if thousands of articles moved, but if the wording in a bio still said 2023 Wimbledon Championships – Men's singles or Swimming at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's 200 metre backstroke that would likely need to be changed by hand. There is also talk of removing the ndash completely.

Perhaps this is what sports projects want and perhaps not. Either way I certainly don't want projects ill-informed as the last RfC was handled. Express your thoughts at the following rfc. Fyunck(click) (talk) 21:00, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
