Background

Gapasin graduated from The University of Notre Dame in 1996. In the same year, he was accepted into the University of Missouri (Mizzou) School of Law in Columbia, Missouri. In 2005, he graduated from the Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School in Charlottesville, Virginia. In 2014, Gapasin inducted to “The National Trial Lawyers Association, Top 100 Trial Lawyers” for 2014.

Gapasin has litigated a number of trials that have garnered high-profile media attention and that have been covered by major news outlets such as CNN, Fox News, and The Washington Post. He also contributed to a multi-series documentary titled, The War Comes Home, by Elliot Smith of Bloomberg News.

In 2010, Gapasin acted as military attorney to Pfc. Justin Stoner, an individual in the 2nd Infantry Division that caught the other unit members smoking hashish. He was beaten by some of the members of his unit. He was taken up his chain of command and had to explain what happened. He then mentioned the murders committed by SSG Gibbs and other unit members, which opened up the case. Stoner had no charges pressed against him and was honorably discharged in 2012.

In 2012, Gapasin represented Maj. Christopher Garbarino, who was facing sexual assault charges. He was acquitted of all sexual assault charges and only convicted of being drunk.

In 2014, Gapasin handled the case of Army Staff Sergeant Angel Sanchez who was accused of sexual assault against 8 female soldiers; Sanchez was later found guilty. Sanchez's case was one of the cases that pressured the United States Congress to make several reforms in handling sexual related assaults complaints.
