==WP Board of Trustees etc.==
My comments here will be short and to the point: I'm no longer taking part here. I have received an astounding amount of support, especially by email, but it's time to go. I tried to walk away in August, and managed to do so for quite a while, but I eventually came back, because of the many requests I received urging me to return. Many of you have written to ask me to not leave, to not give up what I have here, but I'm afraid it's time to make a clean break.
Essay, sorry that you took offence to my queries about expenses for Board members (or more accurately, my misunderstanding of your response) and no, I haven't seen any changes in the description of the Board members' responsibilities etc. as the hot link at the top of the page to the candidates etc. has vanished on my computer.
I ask that the first steward to see this message please remove my various flags from this wiki, as well as from Meta, Commons, and Wikiquote, and remove the bot flags from my bots, which of course will no longer be running. My tools will be taken down shortly. I had planned to delete my user-space myself, but I don't want anyone to think I was going on a rampage, so instead, I ask that one or more administrators who are friends please delete the 288 pages that form my userspace (leaving only my userpage and this talk page).
And no, I'm not pushing anything (that ] policy makes sense to me). I believe that I was explicit in expressing my concerns and I'll think that you'll agree that my query resulted in an apparent re-wording of the trustees' responsibilities to more accurately reflect reality.
I've enjoyed my time here, and done much good work; my time, however, is over, and leaving is the best thing for me and for Misplaced Pages. I walk away happy to be free to go about other things. I hope others will refocus the energy they have spent the past few days in defending and denouncing me to make something here at Misplaced Pages better.
I think most reasonable Wikipedians understand that the position of trustee is not e-mails and sitting in coffee shops, but after reading some of the nonsense that lands on your talk page from other users, I can understand how you might come to the conclusion that many users are inhabitants of La-La Land.

:I think the fact that we had a 13, a 14, & a 15 year old candidate sign up demonstrates that there '''are''' plenty of editors who aren't aware of what is involved with the position. :Indeed, I do have a lot of la-la-esque posts show up here, but my concerns are less about editors who are in la-la land and more about those who are good, hard working editors who aren't aware of what the trustees do, the amount of time involved, and the potential exposure involved (even if the Foundation does pay for them to attend meetings, the concern about criminal and financial liability came from the Foundation counsel, not me). ] ] 06:15, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

==WP Board of Trustees etc. ==
A little research solves the perceived problem of good, hard-working editors not knowing what the Board does, no? But I suspect that many good, hard-working editors could care less what a WP trustee does, as they have no desire to sit on the Board.
Municipal elections (where candidates in Canada are unfettered by political party nomination races) invariably draw a cast of unprepared/ unsuitable candidates out of the woodwork, but generally, things work out for the best in the end in the vast majority of instances.
But candidates for WP's Board should also know that travel expenses/ per diem's are not paid out automatically, according to WP's by-laws. Unless they are approved by the Board on a case-by-case basis (as I read Article IV, Section 3, anyway), the trustee has to absorb/ pay the expenses. If I'm right on that, that should be known upfront as well by each candidate. Perhaps each candidate should be given an electronic package to help ensure they know what they're getting into. Hope you're enjoying your summer. They never last long enough for my liking. ] 21:18, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
