In the middle ages, Garabaghlar was one of the ancient cities of the ]. Thanks to its location along the main caravan routes linking ] with the ], the craftsmanship, trade and the economy have been highly developed in the city. The city, as the seen from its name, was covered with a large garden and greenery. Ditches were built from the small rivers and springs flowing from the mountains. According to him, in the 17th century, about 50 thousand people lived in the Garabaghlar; there were 10 thousand houses, 70 mosques, 40 minaret, a large caravanserai, market, bath-house and etc. In the XVII-XVIII centuries the city has declined as a result of feudal wars and infighting. 2 thousand people lived in Garabaghlar at the beginning of the 20th century.
