I've seen you making a lot of great improvements to a number of articles about Cambodia - it's a country I'm very fond of, and it's great to see it getting some high quality attention -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 21:47, 20 March 2011 (UTC) |
Buppha Devi
It is Buppha Devi. Where do you get that Bopha is used more? In many of the old media (old photographs, old video), it is Buppha Devi. Her name is romanized as Buppha Devi at Sihanouk's website as well as at Sihamoni's website. You tell them that they are spelling her name wrong will you? Also, I was the one that created the article. I did not know better than. Many Cambodians do not pronounce things right (Sovann is often mispronounced as Savan, Sihanouk is often mispronounced as Seihanouk). And hence, I got the pronunciation of Bopha Devi from my mother. I figured out later that it is not correct because the royal family names are supposed to be pronounced in Pali styles (meaning the vowels are more similar to Pali reading). I would appreciate it if you would revert your edits. And next time when reverting an edit please discuss it with the person who edited first to avoid this problem. Thanks. --Dara (talk) 04:00, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
- Also, another point. I believe the main reason you may think 'Bopha' is more common is because of Misplaced Pages's influence. That article with that spelling has been online for years. 'Bopha Devi' occurs in websites that seem to get their information from Misplaced Pages and in posts written by Cambodians (that don't know any better). But if you search for 'Buppha Devi' you will see that it occurs in sites such as Devata.org (Kent Davis), UNESCO, in the royal family members' websites as I mentioned, in scholastic PDF files, in news articles on current events (Apsara Mera premiere), etc. In Paul Cravath's Earth in Flower Book, her name is spelled Buppha Devi. And I can go on but I think that's enough. --Dara (talk) 04:17, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
Discuss with me this...
Why do you keep reverting my edits in Buppha Devi and Cambodia? You cannot argue that royal authority spells her name as Norodom Buppha Devi. It's even spelled that way Julio Jeldre's book, a book that is approved by the royal family of Cambodia. And also, check out the sources I posted in the section above. Do you even bother reading your own talk page? I'm trying to discuss it with you and you are ignoring my messages. And the images for the name of Cambodia and the national motto are not necessary in the Cambodia article. It's your problem if your browser can't support Khmer Unicode text. And in the same vein, it's your problem if you happen to use a browser that can't support certain file types used on Misplaced Pages. There should be no substitute for text when it can displayed in Unicode. --Dara (talk) 03:08, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
How does Khmer Unicode look like on yours? Its very tiny, you barely see what it is means. Is there a way the Unicode could be bigger. Like Thais Unicode its big and clear, but Khmer its too small. --KnightxxArrow (talk) 12:32, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- It appears in the font I select it to (the font is called KhmerOS Metal Chrieng, but this is my choice). Your display issue is a problem with the Khmer fonts provided by Microsoft. They are just too small by default and Microsoft doesn't realize that and doesn't seem to care to fix this by providing new fonts. So, to get around this, you can download additional Khmer fonts and figure out to set that as the default display font for Khmer. This is no problem on other current operating systems or Linux distros such as Ubuntu which uses the fonts provided by KhmerOS.
- BTW, please discuss future reverts with me. I do make edits with good reason, especially article name changes. For example: Nokoreach is not a good romanization as it does not reflect that these are two words. Compare to Angkor Wat, it was also romanized as Angkorvat or Angkorwat and other ways. But we do know these are two words. Nokor Reach should be as such. --Dara (talk) 00:03, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
Romanization for Royal Palace, Phnom Penh
Please do not tweak UNGEGN romanizations to your preference, is not official but it does have it's own set of rules that you should follow if you come across this romanization. I would like to point out that while I agree, barom sounds like it is pronounced 'barum,' by tweaking the UNGEGN romanization, you are portraying this romanization style incorrectly. The romanizations with the diacritics are UNGEGN romanizations and all instances of this romanization should follow UNGEGN rules. UNGEGN romanization is not necessarily officially endorsed by Cambodia for acadamia but it is by the UN for geographical names. I do add this romanization sometimes to non-geographical articles as I feel it is better to use a standard rather than some ad-hoc form of romanization. Romanization is up to the editors' choice here. We do not have a concensus like the Japan WikiProject does (which is to use Hepburn romanization). --Dara (talk) 20:55, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Please give your opinion on the Cambodia article talk page
Hi, KnightxxArrow
This edit warring obviously can't continue so I've brought the map issue over to Talk:Cambodia so everyone can discuss it. Could you also please discuss the revert of my references as well? I think people can see through my introduction of the issue that you do have a reasoning behind the map, but I don't understand the removal of references and therefore wasn't able to give any clues.

- Good luck. KnightxxArrow has shown in a lot of uncooperativeness the past year; he/she doesn't bother discussing anything with me and totally ignores any argument I may have against the reverts done by him/her. It drives me crazy. I am hesitant now to edit Cambodia-related articles anymore because if any contributions I make are simply going to be wiped/reverted without consideration then it was in vain (at least discuss it with me!). The struggle I had to keep the Buppha Devi article named as such (instead of Bopha Devi which is not used by her or officials) was totally unnecessary. KnightxxArrow, I sincerely hope you lose your stubborness and open up your mind to any arguments that I and other Wikipedians may have. I can accept if I'm wrong if you point it out, but I believe I do have good points myself and you do not bother listening. The Khmer text images I removed in the Cambodia article were removed and replaced with Unicode text was with good reason and I posted about it in the talk page. Here I am, back and I see that my edits were arbitrarily reverted without any discussion. Sincerly... --Dara (talk) 01:47, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Khmer Rise Party
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Khmer Rise Party requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Gaurav Pruthi 11:11, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

An article you recently created, 2019 Dallas municipal election, does not have sources and citations as written, which are needed for it to remain published. Copying within Misplaced Pages requires attribution
Thank you for your contributions to Misplaced Pages. It appears that you copied or moved text from Phnom Krom into Prasat Phnom Krom. While you are welcome to re-use Misplaced Pages's content, here or elsewhere, Misplaced Pages's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Misplaced Pages, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from ]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Misplaced Pages:Copying within Misplaced Pages. Thank you. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Misplaced Pages). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Misplaced Pages's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Proposed deletion of List of markets in Phnom Penh
The article List of markets in Phnom Penh has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Misplaced Pages is not an indiscriminate repository of information. This article is almost entirely a list of non-notable markets.
While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Jacona (talk) 20:53, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
