Also, that disambiguation that you claimed you were doing...it doesn't really make sense, you changed Wesleyan to Methodism...how many people do you think would have been confused with going to the Wesleyan page, where references are MOSTLY about the doctrine, not some school in CT, which in fact has nothing to do with Methodism these days AT ALL! People are smart enough to realize that when the sentence read "The Church is firmly ]", it is not about a CT school but about the doctrine.

I think your time will be well-utilized if you add the letters in the word Wesleyan and then link them all to your university by saying that they appear in the name of your university. I am sure your buddy Jmabel will enthusiastically endorse such a worthy cause. How close is that to linking the name of a band that nobody really has heard about and perhaps no one really cares about to the page for Wesleyan University? That's what I deleted. Garbage surely deserves deletion more than info about people that have made significant contributions to society. Feel free to check the additions (claimed to be copyrighted) now. What do you want? I don't understand. I can no longer edit with my old username because your friend, rrickK, who I wouldn't say anything about banned my IP (strangely, it happens so often, there is another request about him on this very page). He did me a favor because I don't wish to spend too much time here. (I wish I were at Edinburgh University to have more time to do so, though) And frankly, like I pointed earlier, communicating with you is not worth my time. If this is insulting to you, I am sorry. This is not a perfect world. We all make decisions based on some rationales. Simply put, I prefer to optimally allocate my time among activites that benefit me the most. That includes not communicating with people to whom I have to constantly explain my logic or actions which seem transparent to people of the level of intelligence that I normally surround myself with. A sufficient number of your comments have solidified my opinion about you. At some point your called that "hatred" or whatnot...well, yes, I do not like dumb people. Your web page's profile added additional evidence to my suspicions. So, that's it. You are PNikolov-free. Go, make the world ....a "better" place. And all the people who I commented about (according to you "insulted") happened to be graduates of the same university over a dispute for pages of THAT university. It is called conflict of interest. I think it is now resolved, so I am back to contributing where I normally do and you to whatever makes you happy. And if you prefer to waste with some requests for mediations and whatever else you like...go ahead. In economics (game theory), it is called Signalling. I take it to be a reflection of the almost non-existent opportunity cost of your time which only strengthens my opinions about you as noted above. But don't expect me to engage in some kind of lengthy polemic about numerous issues. It won't happen.

Yes, the RfM is now moot. For your future knowledge -- and I'm not expert on this, never been through this, this is my understanding -- signing on to an RfM is an almost totally different matter than giving evidence on an RfC. Signing on to an RfM says, "Yes, I'm a party to this matter, I'm one of the people who needs to be involved in any mediation." The RfC is just about gathering the facts of the matter in one place. -- ] | ] 17:48, Nov 19, 2004 (UTC)

:] | |||
Yes, I cut and pasted and did some edits..so what? Like 10% of what I read at wikipedia has sections of articles that are copied verbatim from somewhere else. Misplaced Pages is about as pure as a backalley whore. If you hadn't have tagged it or I would have just reworded some of the headers, no one would have noticed, and therefore there would be no problem. Furthermore, by rendering the article uneditable, you are preventing changes from being made that would make it more to your liking. There shoud be no academic honor system in wikipedia because wikipedia is not even close to an astute academic foundation. Anyway just my opinion.--] 05:12, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
== Thank you! == | |||
==Popular culture== | |||
Thank you for letting me know about the Wiki-eitquette on signing revisions, it is greatly appreciated.
Hello Asbestos! Thanks for the feedback on popular culture. A little explanation. I guess when I see "references in popular culture" in an article I get a bit prickly because popular culture is different in different parts of the world, and the phrasing doesn't seem to recognize that - I guess it seems like assumes that there IS only one kind of popular culture, because the references are pretty much always Anglo-Western. The way things are at the moment, it betrays that Misplaced Pages is less international than we'd all like. I guess by changing the phrasing I'm trying to recognize the slant rather than leave it as implicit. In fact the idea of including such references ''at all'' could possibly be seen as ethnocentric because I suspect they are a concern particular to Anglo-Americans. I had a debate with someone on the Lake Titicaca page about whether such references should be included at all in an encyclopedia article, but I gave up on that one because there seems to be a general consensus that it is. That debate is probably still there if you want to have a look. I guess because the vast majority of these references are American it gives the encyclopedia an American slant, and also makes it seem like such references are truly relevant to the subject being addressed in the article, and I personally think they aren't, fun though they may be for people who are familiar with the references. Also by including them in the article it implies that they are somehow as important as the real facts about the subject, and I think that can come across as patronizing, such as on the Lake Titicaca page, which might discourage non-Anglo-American contributors who hit a page on their area or culture, see a good portion of it devoted to American trivia and get turned off.
However - you are an administrator which means you understand Misplaced Pages policies way better than me, and I accept what you have told me, so I will stop changing that when I see it. That being said, do you have a page you could point me to where I could read something about Misplaced Pages's policies or approach on a) ethnocentrism, and b) (in)appropriate article content?
::Oh dear, not signed either... Ah well, this would be from ]. --Asb
Also you don't need to go through my history - I've only changed it occasionally when I happened upon it, and haven't been at all systematic about it. You've probably hit upon them all already.

One more to which I expect you to reply...The personal attack is not really an attack. It an outragous response trying to understant the logic of someone who consistently complains about what to me seem like trivialities. Shouldn't that be a reason enough to lose credibility in someone? In addition, this guy Asbestos simply can not argue his case. If you are not outraged at someone's inability to argue a case with solid logic and yet being obstinate about making changes, how would you react??
...and something esle, Asbestos, to make it easy for you to distinguish between facts and opinions. "Opinions" expressed by respectable guides like Barron's and Pope, are based on statistics. Statistics...in case you never knew...are facts! Selectivity is _not_ determined by what someone thinks. Let me repeat that for Asbestos because he won't get it from the first time. Selectivity is _not_ determined by what someone thinks. It is determined by various statistics: percent of people applying from out of state, average GPA of applicants, average SAT, etc. (I do not know the exact methodology, but what's important to take out is that it is based on numbers). Let me not repeat the last sentence again with risk of becoming annoying...but Asbestos has justified the need for that. So, it is not an opinion. Hence, its purpose is NOT to attract attention, but rather to state a fact. Hence it is NOT a POV.

An aside: Don't worry my dear. Having lived in England, I am very familiar with Edinburgh. It is a great place for undergraduates and I've heard a lot of wonderful things about it but only on the undergrad level. However, when I myself considered going there for DPhil in Economics, I was told by students in the University itself that all M.Sc. programs are cash-cows for foreign students (apparently you are one yourself there) and the quality of students is really really poor, so that made it an easy decision for me not to go back to the UK. So, yes, comparing schools wasn't my forte, especially, when they accept me and I reject their offers due to low academic standards. Hahah

The last 4 users haven't even bothered to comment on their edits and the ones that do fail to asnwer on the discussion pages the discrepancy between keeping the text on your alma mater's page and deleting it on the Ohio Wesleyan's. If that's not illogical and inconsistent, then what is?
==RfA thanks!== | |||
And listen...this issue is not even close to the conflict of interest on the Wesleyan page. Clearly you don't go around on every single college page and make edits...an by edits I mean deleting a word or two...and not contributiing anything substantive. Instead, you add or you keep the same edits that you delete on the OH Wesleyan's page on your own alma mater's page. So, it is pretty clear that you have other reasons to revert edits that I make and be inconsistent in your logic. Why? I know why...the other 10 users that you cite perhaps don't. Notice...nothing personal in this paragraph...just arguments...

{| class="messagebox" style="width: 95%"
|- | |||
|'''Dear Fellow Mediators:''' | |||
I'm writing to all mediators listed as active to point out several emergent issues that require the immediate attention of all active mediators. The Committee has come to a place where we can neither provide the function we were created to provide (timely formal mediaton for the English Misplaced Pages community) nor correct matters to be able to provide that function. In specific, we cannot perform any mediations, because most mediators are no longer taking cases, and we cannot add new mediators, because mediators are no longer responding to requests to join the Committee. I am in a place where I continually accept new cases for the committee, only to see them go stale after several months because there is no mediator willing to take it, and where I deny candidates a place on the committee because no mediator will speak up in support of them. I ask that all mediators take ten minutes to look over the following matters:
*There are '''five requests''' to join the Mediation Committee, three with no comments whatsoever, and two that have been up for more than a month without sufficient commentary to determine a consensus on promotion.
**] | |||
**] | |||
**] | |||
**] | |||
**] | |||
*There are '''four''' unassigned mediation cases, and will likely be at least two additional ones within the week.
**] | |||
**] | |||
**] | |||
**] | |||
I beg, beseech, and pray each Mediator to please take a few moments to '''at the very least''' comment on the five candidates, and to consider taking one of the open cases. We are at a place where we are literally relying on the kindness of strangers: Almost all cases are being taken by non-Commitee volunteers at this point. Putting the ] (which only changes when we add a new case), and the main committee page on your watchlist so you will know when new nominations and cases are added, would go a long way to helping the Committee succeed. (If having the main page pop up on your watchlist every time someone else comments in a nomination is too annoying, I can move them to subpages like RFA, so that the page will only change when a new nomination is added.)
Additionally, I ask that all mediators check that they have a current email address subscribed to the Mediation Committee mailing list, mediation-l, to avoid the need for future talk page messages of this sort.
My apologies for having to air the committee's dirty laundry in this manner, but I fear it is the only way to get everyone together to bring the Committee back to life. For the convenience of those who simply cannot be involved due to time constraints, I will be listing those that do not participate in any Committee activities as ], so that we have a clearer picture of who exactly we have available to take cases. I am, by separate posting, asking all mediators emeriti to return to actively participating in the requests to join the commmittee.

== AfD vs VfD == | |||
Hi Asbestos! Thanks for your message.
You seem to be hinting that there's some hidden deletionist motive behind me reminding people that AfD is not a vote. If that were true, you'd have a good point. Unfortunately, I can show you plenty of incidences where I do this with people who are "voting" delete. And I can even point out one incidence where I've come down on a "neutral" "vote". The point, of course, is that the direction of the "vote" is irrelevant. The very act of "voting" is the problem.
Many people, both inclusionist and deletionist, vote on AfDs. They look at what others are saying and simply cast a vote for what the majority are feeling. Often this is done by without even bothering to read the article.
This then has an effect on newbies. They find the wonderful world of AfD and leap in with votes. They are told that it isn't a vote, it's a discussion, but they then point to other people on AfD and say "he's voting, she's using the word "vote", they're all saying it's a vote, why shouldn't I vote?". And thus AfD gets ever more broken.
AfD is broken. It doesn't scale. It often produces bizarro results. It can be a pitched battle. But it's all we've got - no-one has come up with a better system. In fact, AfD ''is'' the better system - better than the truly broken Votes for Deletion it replaced.
So we have to manage with what we have. What we have is a discussion forum about articles that may or may not be suitable for the encyclopedia. They require community discussion and a consensus to emerge. That consensus is what the closing admin acts upon.
If people are voting, then the admin can't see the consensus; all s/he can see is a tally of votes. AfD doesn't, however, work by a tally. The procedure for closing is complex - an admin reviews the opinions and discussion and takes action based on what the consensus seems to be, what seems right, what seems best, what works. In that context, votes are bad things. They obscure the function of AfD and the discussions. They make life harder for everyone.
So what's the solution? We're stuck with AfD, there's nothing to replace it. So we need to try to make it work better. There are a number of ways of doing that - people have been discussing them on WikiEN-l for a few weeks. The solution was easy: for people to stop bitching on WikiEN-l and to start acting. Stamp out the practice of saying "vote" and "voting". That stops newbies from being fooled. Stamp out voting itself: tell people the truth - if they "vote" without giving a good account of themselves '''they will be ignored'''. It's not too much to ask: why do you want this article to be deleted? Say something, add something to the conversation. Don't just vote - it adds nothing.
By policing AfD we start, if not fixing it, at least making it less broken. One day's worth of policing last week had a profound effect. People got very busy, altering their statements to remove the word "vote". Some AfDs were even withdrawn. The entire process, for about 48 hours, was slicker, easier and cleaner.
All from just putting an hour's work slapping people for saying "vote".
I apologise if I hurt your feelings when I slapped you for saying "vote". However, I'd hope you won't use it again, so perhaps I'm not ''that'' sorry ;o) The newbie you talk about will never use the term again, either, I'd imagine. I no longer use the term. Other people are turning to each other and saying it on AfD, ''"this isn't a vote"''. People today have changed their "vote" to a statement of their opinion.
This is all good. Honestly. And surprisingly well-thought-out. ]<b>]</b> 14:40, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
:Fair point! I'll work on my wording a bit more. Thanks. ]<b>]</b> 15:46, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

I have posted this post off to other staff members also. I am not sure if this is the best route to resolve this, but can think of no other way.
The article Johnny Lee Clary has been deleted. I have known Johnny through telephone conversations and email for a short time now (about 3-4 months). He recently came and shared his life story in for our church group for the first time just two weeks ago. Before I met Johnny I became interested in his story i.e. his conversion from the head of the KKK in the US, to being a Christian Minister who now teaches against race hate groups. I found the article ] as it still is today, deleted, except for some small talk. If you read the talk you see what I have said at the time (notice I have gotten no reply, probable my fault as I don’t know heaps about WIKI policy). From my understanding Johnny Lee Clary was posting as The KingOfDixie and looks like he tried to change a few things on Wiki concerning the KKK. While this is a controversial subject, Johnny being the former leader of the KKK would probably know a thing or two and be able to contibute, but that’s another story. He eventually made an article about himself i.e. Johnny Lee Clary. Johnny being quite new to Wiki and ignorant of rules of conduct found himself at odds with some admins and had his site deleted.

Subect: Winair Airlines
I recently added a crude history of Winair/Long Beach that you decided wasn't worthy of keeping. That's okay with me as you can obviously choose to include what you wish and delete what you find objectionable. However, as the founder of Winair and having been involved with the airline until I finally closed the final book on the organization in March 2007, I can say with some authority that I know what happened and what didn't happen with Winair. The article published in the existing profile is far from correct - but it was published in a newspaper. Is that the test of acceptability? Newspaper reporters have a lock on reality? How are they verified? I would be more than happy to write a more detailed and better phrased article on Winair and give dates, chapter and verse, etc. Your call. You are the judge...

Almost a year ago you asked about an SVG image of a ... I haven't been back in all that time so I only just read it. So, sorry for the late reply!
Anyway, you asked why the SVG seemed jagged-edged while the JPG was smooth. It's nothing to do with monitor resolution, it's because SVGs aren't antialiased (smoothed/blurred on the edges), at least not normally. Since the original image was tagged as needing an SVG conversion, I just did it. I've since got the impression I was being an overenthusiastic n00b and treading on people's toes, so: sorry about that, too!
Oh, and the main reasons to use SVG over raster images are scalability, consistent image quality/editability, and file size. 1.0 Collaboration of the Week
Hi, I noticed you signed up as a member of the Misplaced Pages:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Misplaced Pages for future publication on CD or paper. Recently, a 1.0 Collaboration of the Week was created to work on essential topics that are in need of improvement, which will ultimately go in a release version of Misplaced Pages. You can help by voting, contributing to an article, or simply making a comment. Thank you for your support. :) Gflores 08:02, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Thank You
I never said I was leaving, i'll still be around in one form or another, but thank you for the concern. The best way to help me out now is to speak out against authoritarianism on Misplaced Pages, if we don't have rules...rules for everyone... we will have chaos, and this project will eventually collapse. Question
Thank you for the barnstar, i'm beginning to believe working with Jimbo under current conditions is impossible, although I won't give up hope at least for a few more days. (Still awaiting a reply from the e-mail I sent him). In any case, I won't be uncivil, but I was wondering your opinion on two things...
- A Wikiproject/Grassroots movement against authoritarianism and for the rule of law on here for all.
- Advocating for a position similiar to the Roman Tribune, an advocate of non-administrators who has power only in keeping an eye on administrators/bureaucrats/arbitrators/etc. and making sure they follow policy. Karmafist 17:54, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

I'm in complete agreement with you there that we need authority. However, the authority should come from our beliefs(a 💕 for all, built by a kind and diverse community) and our policies, not a cult of personality. Karmafist 18:51, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Help on NPOV interpretation
Hi Asbestos, you were the first one to welcome me here some time ago. And I'd like to thank you again for your hospitality. I need some help.
You can find the problem where I need some help here: NPOV policy on representation, the meaning of the conjunction "or"
I think those who answered me are not official administrators. And nobody has been able to answer my latest question on how my interpretation links up with NOR -- as these policies are supposed to be mutually linked. (I also posted this in the village pump and there was no response from any official. Same thing happened at the help page.
I am quite convinced that my interpretation is the right one knowing the need for expertise in Misplaced Pages.
Anyway, I hope you can do something and clarify this issue. Thanks. Lafem 10:12, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for the immediate response, Asbestos. I needed that assurance that I am not alone here. And thanks also for the example on the common cold. That was enlightening. May I copy your response to the other pages (Help Desk and Village Pump) so others can share from your response? Thanks. Lafem 00:45, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Users from 144.173.6.76 vandalising
I see you blocked this IP in late Jan. Similar vandelism is also being done on 144.173.6.77 which was blocked for 24 hours by an admin who is on Wikibreak. See University of Exeter Halls of Residence for examples. I have been reverting this mess for a while. The comments he/she has added and the stuff on the talk pages suggesting these IPs are a shared proxy leads me to suggest that they are probably on the University of Exeter system so it is difficult. There are some good edits from these IPs, but there is a lot of nonsense. Would another block be a good idea? --Bduke 02:36, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

Universism DRV
Hi, Abestos, you voted to undelete the Universism article last year. The outcome of that VFD shelved the article until March 2006. However, the issue has come up again just shy of that date, the article is again undergoing a DRV. Since last year, Universism has been featured in many media outlets, including the LA Times and CNN's Anderson Cooper 360. Would you please vote again in favor of undeleting the article? --Mindbender 20:53, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
Copyvio
Yes, I cut and pasted and did some edits..so what? Like 10% of what I read at wikipedia has sections of articles that are copied verbatim from somewhere else. Misplaced Pages is about as pure as a backalley whore. If you hadn't have tagged it or I would have just reworded some of the headers, no one would have noticed, and therefore there would be no problem. Furthermore, by rendering the article uneditable, you are preventing changes from being made that would make it more to your liking. There shoud be no academic honor system in wikipedia because wikipedia is not even close to an astute academic foundation. Anyway just my opinion.--Hypergeometric2F1(a,b,c,x) 05:12, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
Popular culture
Hello Asbestos! Thanks for the feedback on popular culture. A little explanation. I guess when I see "references in popular culture" in an article I get a bit prickly because popular culture is different in different parts of the world, and the phrasing doesn't seem to recognize that - I guess it seems like assumes that there IS only one kind of popular culture, because the references are pretty much always Anglo-Western. The way things are at the moment, it betrays that Misplaced Pages is less international than we'd all like. I guess by changing the phrasing I'm trying to recognize the slant rather than leave it as implicit. In fact the idea of including such references at all could possibly be seen as ethnocentric because I suspect they are a concern particular to Anglo-Americans.
Also you don't need to go through my history - I've only changed it occasionally when I happened upon it, and haven't been at all systematic about it. You've probably hit upon them all already.
Thanks for the advice. You've made me look at it from a different point of view. Mona-Lynn 20:21, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
I just had another idea - would you object to "references in international popular culture"? At least then that would recognize that there is also a local version of popular culture. Mona-Lynn 20:23, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Merging two accounts
Hi Asbestos - As an administrator I wonder whether you could give me a hand. When i first joined Misplaced Pages I created an account called Mona-lynn and made a few changes under that name, but then created another account, Mona-Lynn, to reflect the way I spell my name. I'm not the most experienced user but you seem to have some good vibes around here when it comes to disputes. Mediation Committee Business
Dear Fellow Mediators:
I beg, beseech, and pray each Mediator to please take a few moments to at the very least comment on the five candidates, and to consider taking one of the open cases. We are at a place where we are literally relying on the kindness of strangers: Almost all cases are being taken by non-Commitee volunteers at this point. Putting the open tasks page (which only changes when we add a new case), and the main committee page on your watchlist so you will know when new nominations and cases are added, would go a long way to helping the Committee succeed. (If having the main page pop up on your watchlist every time someone else comments in a nomination is too annoying, I can move them to subpages like RFA, so that the page will only change when a new nomination is added.) Additionally, I ask that all mediators check that they have a current email address subscribed to the Mediation Committee mailing list, mediation-l, to avoid the need for future talk page messages of this sort. My apologies for having to air the committee's dirty laundry in this manner, but I fear it is the only way to get everyone together to bring the Committee back to life. For the convenience of those who simply cannot be involved due to time constraints, I will be listing those that do not participate in any Committee activities as mediators emeriti, so that we have a clearer picture of who exactly we have available to take cases. I am, by separate posting, asking all mediators emeriti to return to actively participating in the requests to join the commmittee. Yours respectfully, Essjay (Talk • Connect) 02:26, 19 May 2006 (UTC) |

- Hi, just to let you know, I've changed the page you created into a Redirect, so that anyone who types in Barrie Wallace Zwicker in the search box will go automatically to Barrie Zwicker. You can still see what you wrote on that page by looking at the history, or going here, which means you can merge anything from your article into the original as needed. — Asbestos | Talk (RFC) 21:12, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- This is very helpful, Asbestos, and thank you for your merge suggestion, which I will follow. I searched for Barry Zwicker before writing the article but it did not show up, presumably because the original article was in limbo over a deletion suggestion. By the way, what is the preferred way to answer an entry such as this one that you just made on my User Talk page? If I answered it there, would you get an automatic advisory of new message, or does it have to be copied over onto your page as I am doing now, for you to become aware of it?--PureLogic 21:30, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion : Byron Smith
I see that you are on Speedy Deletion patrol. I have been working on a page that continuously gets a speedy deletion although it is neither patent nonsense nor pure vandalism. Is there a reason why this keeps happening? Does Speedy Deletion get abused? This is completely frustrating that people don't follow the rules.
Can you tell me what I did wrong? How can I update a article if it gets deleted in a split second?
The article I keep writing is "Byron Smith" a mountaineer from Canada that has made quite a bit of news recently in mountaineering. Google the name, it's the first to pop up.
The article was deleted for the final time on June 24th.
Thanks Mark

AfD vs VfD
In fact, AfD is the better system - better than the truly broken Votes for Deletion it replaced.
Stamp out voting itself: tell people the truth - if they "vote" without giving a good account of themselves they will be ignored.
However, I'd hope you won't use it again, so perhaps I'm not that sorry ;o) The newbie you talk about will never use the term again, either, I'd imagine. I no longer use the term. Other people are turning to each other and saying it on AfD, "this isn't a vote". People today have changed their "vote" to a statement of their opinion.
This is all good. Honestly. And surprisingly well-thought-out. ➨ ЯEDVERS 14:40, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- Fair point! I'll work on my wording a bit more. Thanks. ➨ ЯEDVERS 15:46, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:Barringer.gif
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Barringer.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Misplaced Pages (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Misplaced Pages:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -SCEhardT 12:30, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

The role of Iran and Syria during the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict
Hi! I understand u. The reason why i had started to write teh article is simple. We hear in the news and also in die discussions that Iran and Syria are involved in that conflict. We also read and see the Hisbollah has it's links to Syria and Iran and Iran and Syria have an active role. So I tried to write down what is pubished in science about that topic. How are the links between Syria, Iran and Hisbollah. What are the goals of the three and ´how is that part of the conflict look like. U can read it in the media and also in the political science books, btw i study that subject, that there is a triangle between Syria, Iran and Hisbollah which works also in the conflict. So I want to start to write down here the background of the three and what's written by different siencetests bout the conflict and the background. Someone said in the german wikipedia they want to delete it 2. Atm the majority say they should keep the article. Also in the german wikipedia atm there are persons who want to delete all parts of articles which descripe the conflict. They even wanted 2 delete the main article. Hope u will write back soon. --Japan01 14:57, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
The role of Iran and Syria during the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict Part II
Hi Asbestos, it#s about the article bout Iran and Syria during the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict. In the german wikipedia. We have now a big article bout this. Die Rolle des Iran und Syriens im Libanonkrieg 2006. Perhaps you have some people in the english wikipedia who like 2 translate it, if u think u want to do it. In the german article we tried 2 write down what's with the 2 countries and the debate about these countries and their role in this conflict. The article was hard discused in the german wikipedia, but it survived 2 delete process. --Japan01 03:24, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
RE: Johnny Lee Clary - Please help
Hey there, my name is Nick, my username is Potters house and I have encountered a problem with trying to provide any information about Johnny Lee Clary.
I found the article Johnny Lee Clary as it still is today, deleted, except for some small talk.
Also note his contributions: Featured articles: · African American literature -- My first featured article. Thanks to everyone who gave feedback. While I didn't start the article, I obsessed on it for an entire month and wrote most of the copy. · Ku Klux Klan -- I began work on this article after it became a featured article. Since then I've mediated several editorial disputes on the article (including one of which kept the article from being delisted as a FA) and made a large number of edits. Potters house 00:11, 27 July 2006 (UTC) Nick.
(Ohio) Wesleyan again
Have a look at and at the article. Similarly at ro:Universitatea Wesleyan, da:Wesleyan-universitetet, fr:Université de Wesleyan, etc. This cannot be coincidence. (My attention was called to this by Talk:Wesleyan University#Foreign Language Pages). - Jmabel | Talk 06:08, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for weighing in on the talk page. With reference to the anon there: it's really frustrating that when one tries to be modest about barging into foreign-language Wikipedias, someone is always liable to say dismisively "see, he doesn't really know any French" (etc.). I can see why some people come in boasting and high-handed instead, just hoping to bull their way through. - Jmabel | Talk 22:35, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Deletion review: web operating system
Hi, I'm looking to some of the members of the Misplaced Pages:Harmonious editing club for a review of an article that's having a wild ride into existance. If you can have a look at Web operating system it points to others like WebOS and Internet Operating Systems that some think it should be merged into. Many thanks for your time. - JohnPritchard 18:44, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Misplaced Pages:Photo Matching Service
Thought you might want to know about this, it has the same goals as Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Photography, but is better organized. If you have any questions, please contact me on my talk page. --Gphoto 19:23, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
Graphics Lab
I saw your name listed on Wikiproject Illustration or the list of graphic artists, and I thought I'd let you know that a Graphics Lab has been created on EN. Based on the highly successful French and German graphics labs, it seeks to better organise and coordinate our graphic design and photo-editing efforts. Up until now, there has been no common space on EN where users could ask for maps, charts and other SVG files to be created. What's more, the Graphics Lab has discussion boards, tips, tools and links; in sum, a good common workspace. Come help us out! The infrastucture is already in place, and now we need participants. :) --Zantastik talk 01:22, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Preterism Page
Hello,
I'm working in close conjunction with Dee Dee Warren who has done a lot of work to the Preterism entry. I have followed the protocol in the discussion page but now that I am trying to make an edit to the actual entry, it says I have been blacklisted. Could you please help?
I want to insert this entry AFTER the paragraph about Sub-variants
Since the late 1990s, some Full Preterists have been progressively trending toward a more universalistic conclusion wherein all people are ultimately redeemed via an application of the New Covenant to all people regardless of their actual profession of Christian faith. This trend is being fervently resisted by traditional Full Preterists.
P.S. I AM a Full Preterist so my critical comments about the trending of Full preterism are well founded, especially as documented in the talk page.

Image tagging for Image:Pastinha.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Pastinha.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Misplaced Pages's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

The Wes mess
Did you see this? Further suppression of evidence that a conflict ever occurred. The edit is by an account with no other edits, before or since. The edit summary is "user was removed per admin request", which I suspect is as misleading as much else that came from the same source. I agreed that anything that you and he-who-is-(by his own volition)-not-to-be-named agreed upon was OK with me, but: did you agree on this? - Jmabel | Talk 18:23, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Non-PD images
I would not have been able to create my version had yours not existed, and I am grateful for that. I had never really investigated licensing until your brought it up. I just felt PD > all else. But I Just looked into the matter, and the GNU deal says:
“ | Secondarily, this License preserves for the author and publisher a way to get credit for their work, while not being considered responsible for modifications made by others. | ” |
But your Sharealike one says
“ | ShareAlike (sa): Permit others to distribute derivative works only under a license identical to the license that governs your work. | ” |
But the license that governs your work says you are not responsible. Am I missing something? Sorry i'm being a little defiant these licenses just confuse me.-Indolences 15:44, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Re-booting Magic WikiProject
I'm contacting you because you are listed as a participant at the Magic WikiProject. There is a draft for a new version of the main project page up for discussion and I would welcome your comments or suggestions. I wrote the draft because I was encouraged to try to do something to breathe some life back into the project and also to address some long standing problems that seem to dog it. The draft is posted at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Magic/draft magic project page. Since starting to edit at Misplaced Pages in February I've contributed 25 new articles to the Magic project and added material to many more. I would really like to see this thing get going again but I need at least a few people to give some sign of encouragement if I am to continue.

Replying to a really old message
Almost a year ago you asked about an SVG image of a coffee pot...
You may well be right that there wasn't much point in the SVG version in this case: I don't really know. -Melian. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.56.98.125 (talk) 14:17, 3 May 2007 (UTC).
Bit of help, please?
I've just gone down the list of administrators and randomly chose you in an attempt and in the hope you'll help me with, what appears to be becoming, a nuisance editor. The user in question is User:0Andrew0, who has made edits to my user talk page (before removing the edit before I noticed it). I contacted the user via their talk page requesting justification for the edit, only for my question to be removed from their talk page (as seems to be the case with other people who have contacted the user). This I reinstated on his talk page but again was removed. The user has also gone and added {{toolong}} to Talk:Birmingham. The first edit of this kind, I removed, however, it was readded and I did nothing to prevent myself from starting an edit war with the user. I am quite surprised over these edits from the user as their previous edits have been of a good standard and very useful, which leads me to believe the account has been hijacked or they have had a sudden turn of faith.
Therefore, what I ask is, can you give me advise to how to approach this user? or, can you do something yourself over this user? Thank you. - Erebus555 21:34, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image (Image:WesleyanCardinal.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:WesleyanCardinal.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 08:18, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Image:LeabraScreenShot.jpg
You created this image, and I believe you actually own the copyright to it. Please consider changing the license info to a free license like the GFDL. Otherwise, I am afraid the image will be deleted as it could be replaced by a free image illustrating the same ideas. — Carl (CBM · talk) 17:27, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use Image:LeabraScreenShot.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:LeabraScreenShot.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Misplaced Pages articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Carl (CBM · talk) 17:27, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:TedHawkins.jpeg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:TedHawkins.jpeg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Misplaced Pages constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Magic secrets - discussion underway
Hi! As a member of the Wiki magic project, I thought you might be interested in contributing to a discussion about magical secrets on Misplaced Pages. There has already been agreement as to the removing of unsourced magic secrets, as detailed here. However, I think consensus needs to be reached as to what should be done after the secrets are removed. Should the secret be placed on the talk page? Or is just a comment as to why the secret was removed sufficient? The discussion is taking place at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Magic#Removing the method - what next?, and if you are able to take part, that would be great.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:ArcadiaLogo.gif}
Thank you for uploading Image:ArcadiaLogo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Misplaced Pages:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Fair use rationale for Image:SonHouse.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:SonHouse.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Misplaced Pages articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Misplaced Pages:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
File source problem with File:Receiving stigmata.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:Receiving stigmata.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Misplaced Pages:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Notice of change
Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that if you are inactive for a continuous three year period, you will be unable to request return of the administrative user right. This includes inactive time prior to your desysopping if you were desysopped for inactivity and inactive time prior to the change in policy. Inactivity is defined as the absence of edits or logged actions. Until such time as you have been inactive for three years, you may request return of the tools at the bureaucrats' noticeboard. After you have been inactive for three years, you may seek return of the tools only through WP:RFA. Thank you. MBisanz 00:20, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Misplaced Pages:New article template
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Misplaced Pages:New article template, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Misplaced Pages:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Mkdw 03:56, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
