Hi Guy – appreciate your comments on my edits to The Guess Who. I wonder, though, what to call the current band other than a cover band, as the musicians have no connection to the original The Guess Who, other than having been hired by an original member to perform The Guess Who music, often without any original members participating. :'''WOW!!''' Very impressive! On my ], I have recently added ] to my '''legendary''' 'Reds or blues' section. Tee hee... well, a far number of editors seem to be unable to write a musician's article without using "legendary" at least once, so I thought I would have a go too. Joking apart, my conundrum is whether Rhodes passes muster in the notability stakes. Four recorded tracks, with only two actually released, is a meagre output, but his association with ] is well documented, along with his somewhat unique instrument for a blues musician. I will leave you to have a look at the links I have found, duly noting that some are considerably more reliable than others, and would appreciate your thoughts. There is no rush on this one. I am still trying to string together an article for the other red link in that section, and seem to have got writer's cramp, or the jitters, or "Yeah, the tremors in my thigh bone". Ta,

I wanted to ask about Misplaced Pages publishing companies. Would you have some information about these? Is this something which can be asked on this forum? Hopefully it is ok to ask this question. ] (]) 03:05, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
A recent edit has changed his date (and place) of birth. To be fair, the editor cites <ref>{{Cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=XQU3AgAAQBAJ&pg=PA367&dq=Boyd+Gilmore+belzoni&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi3sJ6oj5znAhWBo1kKHT4HBSgQ6AEwAnoECAYQAg#v=onepage&q=Boyd%20Gilmore%20belzoni&f=false|title=The Blues Encyclopedia|last=Komara|first=Edward|last2=Lee|first2=Peter|date=|publisher=Routledge|year=2004|isbn=978-1-135-95832-9|location=|pages=367|language=en}}</ref> stating June 12, 1910, as opposed to the previous June 1, 1905. There are discrepancies in that ] also quotes June 12, 1910 (or 1913 depending on which part of their article you read); whereas gives "b. June 1, 1905 near Inverness, Sunflower County, Mississippi." Which is what I think I must have used when composing the original article in November 2016, Does ''BARE'' contain anything ? Plus, as it stands, the Wiki article now shows born 1910 in the main text and infobox, but still 1905 in the categories.
:Sorry, I can't help you. You could look at ], and see if that helps direct you towards an answer. ] (]) 14:44, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

I am asking a favour again. There have been a couple of single edit IPs who have, without any supporting evidence of course, added that Martinez died on 11 February 2024. I have reverted both, but have begun to wonder whether it may well be true. Martinez is 76 years old after all. Try as I might I can not find anything of proof on the net. He is/was an Englishman, albeit of Moroccan descent, and I am assuming he died in the UK - but you know the problerms inherent in assuming anything. Can Detective Hamilton work his magic ? Thanks. - ] (]) 14:45, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
:As you say, there's a disagreement between Komara, which gives June 12, 1910, in ], and ''BARE'', which (p.188) gives June 1 {{sic}}, 1905, "near ], ]", with a footnote (p.447) which states: "The 1910 census disproves both the SSDI and Death certificate birth dates of 1910." ("SSDI" = Social Security Death Index.) SSDI in fact gives his birth date as June 1 {{sic}}, 1910 (not June 12) - although the ''California'' Death Index gives June 12, 1910. Census information gives him as aged 14 in 1920, 22 in 1930.... but so far I haven't been able to find him anywhere on the 1910 census. You'll have seen , with the comment "He was born June 1, 1905 (some sources say June 12, 1910)." That is the sort of approach we should be adopting, I think. We need to move this discussion to the article talk page, perhaps, if we can't resolve it here, and I'll ping {{ping|Twixister}}. ] (]) 07:42, 25 January 2020 (UTC)

I just think saying just "Cheshire" is confusing, because it is not modernly part of Cheshire. Would you be OK with something like "then part of ]"? Or even "modernly ], then part of ]"? I have used similar wording for people for people born in West Virginia when it was still part of Virginia. ] (]) 23:55, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
:The general guidance here is to refer to places by the name that was used at the the time they were born. No-one with an interest in 18th century history would use the modern term "Merseyside". I would object less strongly to a wording like "..then in ]...", though I think it's unnecessary. But, the main problem with that article is the general lack of referencing - I'll try and get round to that, as Wright has been on my "to do" list for a long time. ] (]) 09:18, 26 January 2020 (UTC)

Well done; cleaning up the section that said there had been a final reunion. This was apparently in a private room somewhere and it didnt make sense to report it as a performing group, playing publicly. I tried to modify the headline to reflect that there WAS no new group but I didnt know how to neatly remove the headline. I did not understand why a headline was there about something which never happened. Youre obviously a classic music lover like me. I WISH Left Banke could have reunited before Michael's 2015 death, while Martin Caro, Lookofsky/Brown, Cameron and Finn were alive. That would have been a legitimate reunion with substantial core members. But they waited too long and couldnt achieve this. Then, from 2015 to 2020, 3 of those 4 passed away simply due to mortality and the passage of time. It may have been nice for a reunion to occur, but wasnt worthy of a reference source to emphasize speculation on an event that MIGHT have happened, but did not. The editor Floridakitties really went crazy, didnt they? Haha.

The Guess Who

Hi Guy – appreciate your comments on my edits to The Guess Who. I wonder, though, what to call the current band other than a cover band, as the musicians have no connection to the original The Guess Who, other than having been hired by an original member to perform The Guess Who music, often without any original members participating. Thoughts? PSPazW (talk) 21:23, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

The term "cover band" seems inappropriate and unnecessarily demeaning. Just use the word "band", or something like "the Kale/Peterson band". No need to take sides - WP:NEUTRAL. Ghmyrtle (talk) 21:48, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

Joe Hayman

If I can make an observation, Hayman's "Cohen on the Telephone" was not the first record to sell a million copies. That was Enrico Caruso's "Vesti la giubba", first released in 1903.<ref name="The Book of Golden Discs">{{cite book | first= Joseph | last= Murrells | year= 1978 | title= The Book of Golden Discs | edition= 2nd | publisher= Barrie and Jenkins Ltd | location= London | page= 9 | isbn= 0-214-20512-6 | url-access= registration | url= https://archive.org/details/bookofgoldendisc00murr/page/9}}</ref> Hayman's 1914 recording did sell a million copies and was the first 'million selling comedy dialogue disc', selling over two million copies in the U.S. alone. (Same source as above, but on page 10 on the book). Hayman's was seemingly the sixth million selling disc. Pedantic, but what else can a man with a book do !? – Derek R Bullamore (talk) 22:49, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

OK - my (less than perfect) sources say something different, but I'll happily tweak the text! Ghmyrtle (talk) 22:52, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
By way of explanation, I have had my Murrells' open a bit recently, largely to help polish up various Wiki articles on million selling recordings by Hank Ballard. I should also perhaps inform you that Caruso's epic title translates as "On With the Motley". What is has to do with Dick Dastardly's accomplice is not clear. I probably could have worded 'had my Murrells' open a bit recently' better too, but I am getting old. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 23:04, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

Question Regarding Misplaced Pages Publishing Companies

I wanted to ask about Misplaced Pages publishing companies. Would you have some information about these? Is this something which can be asked on this forum? Hopefully it is ok to ask this question. 141.154.53.27 (talk) 03:05, 14 April 2024 (UTC)

Sorry, I can't help you. You could look at Help:Contents, and see if that helps direct you towards an answer. Ghmyrtle (talk) 14:44, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Paul Martinez

I am asking a favour again. There have been a couple of single edit IPs who have, without any supporting evidence of course, added that Martinez died on 11 February 2024. I have reverted both, but have begun to wonder whether it may well be true. Martinez is 76 years old after all. Try as I might I can not find anything of proof on the net. He is/was an Englishman, albeit of Moroccan descent, and I am assuming he died in the UK - but you know the problerms inherent in assuming anything. Can Detective Hamilton work his magic ? Thanks. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 14:45, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

I've added a couple of sources for his death - so far I've only found social media posts giving a date, but I'll take another look. Ghmyrtle (talk) 17:28, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

Lil Green

I had quite forgotten about this case, but recently stumbled upon the article's talk page and noticed my comments posted in November 2023. I do think that the article should quote 1901 as her YOB as, at the very least, a more "viable alternative" (or some such wording). Would you care to revisit this one please ? Thanks, - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 21:30, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

Will do, if I can find time. Bob Eagle (and Stefan Wirz, and this - https://msbluestrail.org/blues-trail-markers/lil-green) - who I would regard as reliable - state 1901, which I think we should give priority to. Interestingly her gravestone - https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/28558920/lillian-green#view-photo=226727589 - gives 1905, which I don't think I've seen anywhere else! Ghmyrtle (talk) 22:24, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
Many thanks for your work on her article. I feel it reads so much better and is logical now - particularly the sentence that starts "After the early death of her parents..." Excellent effort on composing wording for the 'Notes' section too. One minor aspect, but do we have a reference to support the final sentence beginning "She died of pneumonia..." The sentence has been in the article since at least January 2009 ! Cheers - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 21:34, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
I see you have covered the situation with a relevant reference. Thanks again. To prove I am capable of something positive, I will add a sentence or two to the article's talk page to explain where we are with the date of birth. I am sure some editor, somewhere down the line, will question the position. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 12:13, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

Lottie Kimbrough

Here is an interesting thing - well, vaguely interesting, but you will see what I mean. We have no death date for this lady, who wrote the well-covered song, "Rolling Log Blues". One of those who recorded that number was Buffy Sainte-Marie, and it appeared on her 1966 album, Little Wheel Spin and Spin. Here are the credit notes which AllMusic supply for the album and look who is credited with "Choir/Chorus, Vocals, Vocals (Background)". Either this a very, very early sampling effect, or AllMusic have it wrong (the mistake, if that is what is, is also in the the Misplaced Pages article for that album), or Lottie was alive and well in 1966. What do you think ?? Derek R Bullamore (talk) 12:44, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

AllMusic is wrong. The liner notes here state "...the chorus is by Lottie Kimbrough..." - but in context that clearly refers to the writing of the song, not the recording. Stefan Wirz has no death information, and so neither should we here. Ghmyrtle (talk) 13:14, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
Ah, right - a confusion in the wording then. Does that mean that Buffy nicks the bulk of the royalties for that track ? Poor blacks, still diddled even when seemingly dead. Cheers. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 16:33, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Tommy Godfrey

I believe you were the person who added a reference from Roy Hudd's book about pantomime. It seems extraordinarily unlikely that he played principal boy in pantomime. If that is what Roy Hudd said, could you add a quotation to your reference, please? Chemical Engineer (talk) 21:09, 12 July 2024 (UTC)

According to the book: " a funny man. A fruity real Cockney voice, a good ad-libber and the thinnest legs in show business. A pal of mine, the press representative Laurie Bellew, reckoned it was worth the price of admission just to glimpse Tommy's legs in Principal Boy's costume. We knew him, latterly, as a fine, always totally real, character actor on television and film but he had a sterling Variety background. He was an excellent tap dancer who started, as a boy, in a three-handed act, Godfrey, Randall, and Deane...". Ghmyrtle (talk) 22:02, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
