Bugger bugger bugger, I saw a map in the transport museum in budapest we went the other week and it had the lat and long but in pretty much a mercator projection. My missus was more interested with the toy trains so I didn't get a chance to take the measures off it. If it's wrong (as it is) it should be deleted but I am still trying to get the measures right. The thing is it's specifically Kingdom of Hungary, but the more atlases (atli? :) I look at the more different lats and longs I get. And anything one does on Hungarian articles is rather contentious, so it is probably really better deleted. Because people whose great grandfathers were part of the Kingdom of Hungary will say no that's Croatia or Slovakia or Slovenia or Yugoslavia or Jugoslavia or The People's Republic of East Kebab. Since Hungarian politics is ''very'' contentious and goes on racist grounds in far more than would be allowed in where I come from, this is better off deleted. :{{outdent}} Thanks for pinging me in on this. I know it was a long time ago. ], yes I did guess it was the ] all that time ago, but ''that'' didn't seem quite to fit either. Since then I took something and with Inkscape made a ] (five if you include ] as a fifth colour, blue, but could have been made a fourth colour as those that surround it are all in three other colours, it is just more pleasant to have it in blue but not mathematically necessary) and split out all the layers and borders and so on into separate layers on the SVG. I seem to recall I called it ] or something &ndash; and I emphasise this is ''not'' the Kingdom of Hungary but the modern-day Hungary. All I had left to do was get the text labelling right. Searching for "a new look for an old map" was something ''roughly'' want some commenter said, may well have been ] here but may not have been (a long time ago, just going from memory: and those exact words are what was printed on the front of the first ] fold-up ] (often called "Map"; Beck himself never called it a map: I have good references for this from publications of the ] in woodware) of 1933, so I am probably confusing those words with the same sentiment expressed. This is all such a long time ago, I give as hints for those who can search better than I.
:On the plus side, by pure coincidence (these are not common around here in Budapest) my local pub has a nice 1898ish German (I think) map of Austria-Hungary; certainly pre-]. This is a five or six colour map and I am pretty sure it is in German but I am going from memory, I don't think it's in Hungarian. It would be about {{convert|40|x|25|in}} and I daresay somehow I could get it scanned in, in one of the largescale printers in the town (who I happen to be also on good terms with, for various other reasons) or just take four A3 scans and stitch them with photoshop, assuming that my scanner doesn't distort too much. I am on good terms with the landlord as I have given him my ] and various other British pub memorablia, it is that kind of pub, very much a "local", so I can ask to borrow the map (it's framed) or just go in on a quiet afternoon with a straightedge etc and try to get some measures off that. I think it is ''not'' the same as the image is here, though quite similar. As a start shall I get the maker etc, would that help at all, before I do the trig etc off it? I have a very good straightedge and fifty quids worth of ] adjustable protractor that I use for technical drawing on my A0 ], it's about {{convert|25|in}} long on its hypotenuese, which should be enough to measure angles and distances with some kinda veracity, I am not sure of the projection without looking again. Is it worth me taking a look and reporting back, probably will be about UTC+2 Friday tomorrow, else Monday? If you give me some nice trig points "in the middle" I will do my best to give you the readings off of them. :] is the one I made the four-colour svg version of. It just needs tidying on the text labels layer if I remember right, I can't remember its name. The computer it was on is long gone. ]? Something like that. We have ] on Commons, but that's not it, cos it's not four-colour and has labels in Cyrillic, is a jpg not an svg. Perhaps unfortunately it got deleted as unused. I'd need to ask an admin to dredge from about 2009 onwards. Users working on it would have been mostly me and perhaps occasionally the missus, no longer editing at Misplaced Pages for many a year due to very harsh and undeserved comments after excellent translations of English articles about ] into HU:WP (something she is an expert in, more than I know and I'm bloody English): Her username was/is ]. ] (]) 16:51, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
::OK, the map you included wrongfooted me, this is exactly the map that is nominated (duh!) I was looking at the map you included on the right. No, don't give up on it, I'll try to fix it. It is nearly OK, all the coords and borders and counties etc are done on separate labels and I think it is much better than the boring brown map transcluded via {{tlx|Infobox Hungarian settlement}}. We just need to fix the edges and fix the text-label layer for some reason the font doesn't scale properly, I never did work out why, I shall try again. One reason to separate into different layers in a good GIS fashion is so that with a flick of the wrist one can turn off all the labels, turn off e.g. the county borders, make all the counties brown and just fill one particular county in a different colour (for Hungarian county articles) etc etc etc. I hand-edited the XML for the SVG to make it all nice, it's much much nicer than its predecessor for putting into a GIS etc because each county edge and county border and county name etc is labeleed in a very consistent fashion. The underlying SVG is ]. The polygons for the borders go actually in a kinda "cogwheel" order so that some going anticlockwise have their boundaries against the others going clockwise, rather in a toothed gearwheel manner, but that was just my pedantry; each county actually has its own borders as it did on the original, but on the original the borders for e.g Budapest to Pest County were a bit different from the borders of Pest County to Budapest, i.e. there was a gap or overlap, which now there is not in "my" version, they have all the coordinates bang on, as I did them all in hand in the XML not with some "snap it roughly to where it looks right" tool. All the bordering points have the same coords but the opposite directions (clockwise or ]) which helps the SVG polygon fill get it right without overlap or gap.
:I think we should keep it and try to fix the labels and the "fix" coordinates for it. I suppose this was a labour of love but I think it does make it better than what is used in the infobox, it scales except for the text labels and the old one has errors in the border coords that leave gaps or overlaps, it just doesn't seem so at the scale used in infoboxes, as the rendering of the borders and the pushpins for the places are far larger than the errors, at even a large-screen resolution scale. :The text labels are fine on my I think 1972 across screen in full view. When I made this I think I had a 1024x768 screen. It's when the labels are all squished they don't scale down properly, and get all scrunched up, I have never quite worked out why. Can you fix ]? Because it does not display correctly on recent Olympic basketball categories. For example, ] (1936–2004) and ] (2008–2024) have some kind of cutoff. this prototype contains, as a subset, everything module chessboard "done the right way" needs, and will show the chessboard even when JS is disabled, or the required JS module is not loaded (naturally, not the "interactive game" part). the extension will use php, but the prototype is mainly lua+css.

if you are interested, i'll be happy to discuss the details. the bottom line is that doing it this way leads to a significantly simpler module, and generates shorted, sweeter, cheaper and nicer html (e.g., no "img" elements so no <nowiki>] and ]</nowiki>. as a free bonus, "reverse" (showing board from black POV) boils down to adding a single class to the wrapper div.

The infobox at ] is very poorly formatted, with a lot of white space on the top. It looks like this is what this template does when the text for the labels in the awards section is long. == AFL season ladder progressions ==

The new template implemented by you on multiple AFL season pages has one major issue. A typical ladder progression enables the user to sort the table by each round and display the teams in the order that they ranked after said round. Using your template, sorting the team in Round 1 for example, would not display the correct ladder for Round 1. After many attempts, I have not been able to find an easy solution to have the ladder progression both maintain correct ladder positions and be able to use something like "color_B" to highlight the cell. If you could find any way that would work, it would be greatly appreciated.

If the user sorts the table by the first round. Essendon, the team in first place, are sorted into fifth place. Furthermore, in my attempts to make the 1900 ladder progression, I was not able to colour the cells and be able sort. By implementing a separate colouring parameter, it would solve both problems. Hello Frietjes. An RfC recently closed at ] concluded that if possible, the squadlist (which currently displays two side-by-side lists created by inserting {{tl|fs mid}}) should be turned into a list that displays in two side-by-side lists on wide screens and a single lists on narrow screens.

Someone has created a version in ] that moves the right-hand table below the left one when a screen is narrowed, but it retains its separate heading and has whitespace between the two (there is also a sandbox version of fs mid ({{tl|Football squad mid/sandbox}}).

Do you know whether it's possible to amend it so that the heading and whitespace disappear if the tables flip to being one below another rather than side-by-side? Cheers, ] ]]
: ], the whitespace is easier to adjust than the heading itself. for the whitespace, you basically want an outer container that takes care of the top, bottom, and left margin. then you stick two left floating tables inside of that container which have zero margin on the top, bottom, and left, and a small margin on the right. I put examples in ]. the first set uses the existing templates as a base, and the second set uses the sandbox as a base. :], unfortunately, there is no simple automatic solution. the top of any right floating element will push the top of any subsequent left floating element to come after it. the general solution has been to re-order the floating elements any time that you see this. another solution is to use {{tl|stack}} which will nest right floating elements when space allows it. you can also use stack to group right floating elements, but those elements must have the same width. the documentation for ] has several examples showing the problem and how {{tl|stack}} can be used to solve those problems. but, the best method for simple situations is to just alternate right-left-right-left elements floating on the page, or make sure that there are no left floating elements that come after a sequence of right floating elements. for pages with lots of images, you also want to be aware of ] which happens when you put a right and left next to each other and the text is sandwiched in the middle. if there isn't a WP page about "float management" there should be (covering stacking, sandwiching, etc. all in one guide). ] (]) 14:34, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Trying to summarise: The outcome of the RfC was to have a squadlist that appears in two columns on wide screens or a single column on narrow screens. The current squadlist always appears in two columns. I managed to create a rudimentary one ] by combining div col with the squadlist tables. There are two improvements needed for this: (1) to stop the columns being so far apart on wide screens, and (2) to remove the second heading when it compresses to a single column. Hi. Following this ] which resulted in a consensus to merge ] and ], we made a ] to decide HOW the resulting template should look (which ended over 3 months ago). Now, we have implemented some changes to Football squad player (which are now live). However, there are a couple of issues:
#One of the results of the RfC was that it would be ideal to show two columns on the PC version, and a single column on mobile version (] is how is should look like on PC, and ] is how is should look like on mobile)
#It seems that Fs player2 doesn't use a "Fs player2 start", "mid", or "end", rather a wikitable, which complicates things (see ], for example)
#Finally there is ]. If we redirected fs start and end2 to the main ones, the table would work, but the headings would be out of order (e.g. the nationality of the players appears in the last column). {{t|fs player}} needs to be reworked to able to accept both the normal input and the parameters used in {{t|Fs player2 sort}}.

Hello. I was wondering if there was any chance you could look at whether the upgrades requested to this module at ] are possible? I have tried messing around in ], but it's all been very trial and error as I don't know Lua and am now stuck (see the current version of the ]) and a request for assistance at ] went nowhere... I think some of it should be fairly simple for someone who knows their way around the code (particularly manually adding a colour and possbily even the switch to simple parliamentary elections, which I seem to have got at least half way on... Having a universal results table would be a massive benefit as at the moment virtually all of them are Wikitables, which are prone to being repeatedly changed by drive-by editors and trying to maintain some form of consistency is incredibly draining. If there is a better way to do this part, that would probably make the other part of this request much easier, as then most of the substituted content could be directly included in the single preload page instead.

Hi, in your edit where ] was added, I don't think it is working correctly. The tracking category has over 13K in it, but it looks like the category is showing all the articles where infobox school is used, and where the 'country' parameter is wikilinked, like: ], instead of Ghana (non-linked). Because, when you take one of the articles and remove the wikilink on the country parameter, then the article does not go into the tracking category. Essentially, the tracking category is only showing where the countries are wikilinked, and not if they're missing a country data template, which seems to be the result desired. Not only is it a big help for getting some consistency in presentation, but the automatic totalling and percentage calculation has helped identify several errors in the tables (both from editors mistranscribing numbers from sources, and mistakes in the sources themselves) by comparing the automatically-calculated totals/percentages with those given in the original tables/sources. Howdy! So I'm a huge fan of you User:Frietjes/addcheckforunknownparameters.js and have used it a TON. Since the logical next step after using it is to insert {{unknown params category|foo_bar}}, I added a few lines of code that send that to the clipboard, hopefully saving a few keystrokes. Argo Navis, although it looks like I am the author, all I did was migrate it from the old Template system to the new Module system. you can see the old template history in the history for the documentation page. I agree that it looks like the relief map doesn't have the same edges as the non-relief map. it looks like the problem started with this edit where the relief map was changed by Obersachse? Help with Template:Summer Olympics by year category navigation

Can you fix Template:Summer Olympics by year category navigation? Because it does not display correctly on recent Olympic basketball categories. For example, Category:2004 Basketball Olympic squad templates (1936–2004) and Category:2008 Summer Olympics basketball squad navigational boxes (2008–2024) have some kind of cutoff. I thought of asking this template's creator for help, but she is blocked indefinitely. sbaio, it looks like the problem is that the name pattern changed between 2004 and 2008. the easiest solution is to move Category:2004 Basketball Olympic squad templates and earlier to Category:2004 Basketball Olympic squad navigational boxes which would still be an accurate category name. harder would be to have the template automatically check for two names. Thanks for explanation. I have another question regarding templates in the mentioned categories. Is there a way to summon some kind of bot that would make a mass deletion request for those templates. I have already nominated a bunch of such templates at Misplaced Pages:Templates for discussion/Log/2024 November 18#Basketball national team roster navboxes. However, there are about 156 more such templates that should be deleted. I also thought about WP:SPEEDY, but I am not sure which criteria would fit it. – sbaio 16:03, 20 November 2024 (UTC)

Demt1298, thank you for asking! there are a couple database reports that are generated that keep track of transclusions of missing templates (here and here). by prefixing the missing templates with {{t}} it changes the transclusion to a link and removes it from the clean up list. thank you! @Frietjes Good to know, so should I just use it while they are in the sandbox, or should I use it for a new article I have written and am awaiting for the linked article to be written in the future? Removing citations

Please go back to articles where you removed citations to Allmovie and fix them. In this edit, for example, you removed a citation to Allmovie simply because some random template was deleted. In all the edits you did this, please go back and restore the citation, cited to the URL that the template used to point to.
