Hi Onel5969, I hope this message finds you well! I saw that you reverted my redirect/move for Piperia elegans (to Platanthera elegans) earlier. I wonder if we could just discuss it a bit? The Misplaced Pages page for Piperia is already a redirect to Platanthera (because the former is now considered a synonym of the latter), so I thought I would just move Piperia elegans to Platanthera elegans. Looking through the pages for the other former Piperia species, however, it seems that none of them reflect the genus change. If I moved all the former Piperias to their respective Platanthera pages to ensure uniformity, would that address your objection, or is there another issue? I am also working on hopefully expanding the pages for the former Piperias, if that helps. Best regards, ] (]) 22:14, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

== Reason for deletion of Time Will Tell (Hebe Tien album) Misplaced Pages page ==

Dear Editor:
May I kindly seek your clarification on the purpose of deleting the Misplaced Pages page on Time Will Tell (Hebe Tien album)? The Misplaced Pages page was curated with hours of effort from various parties including myself. At the very least a proper reason to justify the deletion should be provided. <!-- Template:Unsigned --><small class="autosigned">—&nbsp;Preceding ] comment added by ] (] • ]) 09:54, 3 November 2020 (UTC)</small> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->
:{{u|Moiboy}}, first, the article wasn't deleted, it was redirected. Second, the reason was given in the edit summary. It doesn't pass ], which says in those cases, the album title should be redirected to the artist. The current sourcing includes two advertisements, an instagram pos (non-reliable), are all about a different album of hers (''Nobody Knows''). At first, I thought it might be a simple case of the computer translating the title differently, but none of the tracks appear to match. Even if they were about this album, the current sourcing doesn't come close to establishing notability. ] ] 11:57, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

:{{u|BEN917}}, hi ... yes I could, but you can do it yourself. You need to go through the RfD process (redirects for discussion), or in this case, or requesting a speedy deletion through G6, and explain that you want to move the existing page there. I am hesitant to do it myself, since I'm not sure what the correct title of the article should be. == BLP subject's academic writing used as sources ==

Hi, I recently interacted with an academic, ], whose BLP was vandalized. He reintroduced text that had been deleted, and another editor removed it, telling Wainer that because of his COI, he needed to make an edit request. Wainer was surprised, as the contents that he tried to reintroduce had been on the page since it was approved by you via . That led me to take a look, and I noticed that when you approved it, over half of the citations were to books, papers, and conference proceedings (co-)authored by Wainer and 1 to his CV. That puzzled me, as I thought that these aren't independent of the subject and so generally aren't acceptable as sources. You're a much more experienced editor than I am, so I assume that there's something I've misunderstood about this, and I'm hoping that you'll briefly explain when / the extent to which an NPROF's professional publications can be used as sources in his/her BLP. I'm asking because I'm trying to improve the page of another NPROF. Thank you! ] (]) 20:52, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

::{{u|Onel5969}}, Thank you for taking the time to respond. I wasn't wondering about establishing notability. I was wondering about ] statements like "Articles should be based on reliable, independent, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy" (there's a similar statement in WP:VERIFY) and "the great majority of any article must be drawn from independent sources." Another experienced editor, ], had also told Wainer "You need to get independent sources for the material" that Wainer wanted to reintroduce, most of which had been sourced to his own publications. :{{u|Reel315}}, Hi. First, when asking a question on a user's talk page, it is always helpful to put in a link to the article you're talking about, like this: ]. While it wasn't a problem to track it down in this case, it can be probelmatic. Now regarding your query. The two notability guidelines are ] or ]. In a nutshell, to meet GNG, you need several in-depth articles about the subject, and they have to come from independent sources. Currently, there are zero of these in the article. All are promo pieces about the film. Most folks use newspapers and periodicals to come up with sources, sometimes books. I did a cursory search and found very little about the documentary. Doesn't mean the sourcing isn't out there. the WP:NFILM is what is known as a SN, or specialty notability criteria. That list is very specific and can be found at the link. Hope this helps. But remember that not everything is notable. It helps to familiarize yourself with the notability guidelines, and that can help to decide what to write about. ] ] 17:58, 9 November 2020 (UTC)

The reverting to the redirect was an easy call, since the term was used on the target of a long-standing article. :{{u|Cwmhiraeth}}, hi. I'm of the view that an editor who evades the rules, especially major rules, should have very few tools. Especially not reviewer or autopatrolled. The most egregious offenses to me are sockpuppetry, copyvio issues, and UPE. That being said, folks make mistakes. I saw the discussion you had on their talk page (which was going to be my first suggestion), but I don't think it shows a proper understanding of Copyvio. Hell, many times I'm not sure, but I try to err on the side of caution, without overwhelming folks like you who do the grunt work of actually doing the revdel. I'd be more concerned if they had autopatrolled rights. I've reviewed several of their articles, and this is the first one I can remember which had a copyvio, so I don't think it's a problem at the moment. Their logs don't appear to show any activity as a reviewer or patroller, but their apparent lack of understanding of copyvio would be an issue if they decided to start actually reviewing/patrolling. I don't think removing the patrol rights would do any harm, and might be a good precautionary measure. ] ] 12:05, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

:Hi Tim. First, it's always polite to leave a wikilink to the article you're talking about when leaving a comment on an editor's talkpage, like this: ]. Second, please remember to 'sign' your comments with 4 tildes, like this: <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>. That will allow the editor to know who they are communicating with. Now, to show notability you need several sources which go in-depth about the school, as opposed to mere mentions are simple blurbs. These should be from outside sources, not school websites or publications. In addition, they should also include in-depth articles from non-local sources, for example if the article was from a Cardiff or London paper. See ] and ] for the entire rundown of guidelines. If you want to work on the article, I can move it into draft for you, and then take a look at it after you've done some work on it, or answer questions for you. Dear Editor:

About the first article, an editor on Misplaced Pages wants to remove it. My son wrote it long ago as a present. It has been edited often since so I am not sure what to do.

The second problem is an article in my Sandbox which I moved, I thought, successfully to Misplaced Pages but Misplaced Pages says it won't come up. Can't imagine why. I think I wrote the title in the wrong box but I don't know how to change it to the right box. Could you do this?

Hi Joan. For the first time in a long time, I'm not seeing enough in-depth references from independent, reliable sources to show notability. The first reference is perfect. If you had at least one more like that, it would be fine. Two would be better. Onel5969 09:24, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Dear Onel5969TT me, I found good references with lots of information at last! BLP subject's academic writing used as sources

Hi, I recently interacted with an academic, Gabriel Wainer, whose BLP was vandalized. He reintroduced text that had been deleted, and another editor removed it, telling Wainer that because of his COI, he needed to make an edit request. Wainer was surprised, as the contents that he tried to reintroduce had been on the page since it was approved by you via AfC. Thank you! FactOrOpinion (talk) 20:52, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi there. Non-independent sources can be used to satisfy WP:VERIFY, but do not go towards establishing WP:NOTABILITY. While most articles need to pass GNG, I most likely passed Wainer's article based on his Google Scholar rating, which qualifies under WP:NSCHOLAR. I hope that clears it up a bit for you. Onel5969 21:40, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
Onel5969, Thank you for taking the time to respond. I wasn't wondering about establishing notability. I was wondering about WP:RS statements like "Articles should be based on reliable, independent, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy" (there's a similar statement in WP:VERIFY) and "the great majority of any article must be drawn from independent sources." Another experienced editor, C.Fred, had also told Wainer "You need to get independent sources for the material" that Wainer wanted to reintroduce, most of which had been sourced to his own publications. I'll keep your comment in mind that non-independent sources can be used to satisfy WP:V. Thanks again, FactOrOpinion (talk) 23:35, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

Dear Editor:

I have a funny kind of request. I moved this article to Misplaced Pages too soon. Will you put it back in my sandbox? The subject is more than adequately covered in several sites on the Internet. I don't need Earwig's copy viol to tell me that i have overstepped. I may delete it from my sandbox as I don't know the subject and can't contribute anything. Thanks! Dear Editor: Happy First Edit Day!! and Favour to ask:

The title of this article has been placed correctly in the Category Canadian Women Artists but the second part of the title has been translated to English. This is not correct. Canada has two official languages. That is why the title is in English and French. Could you correct this please? Thanks! Joan Joan arden murray (talk) 16:20, 7 November 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for reviewing Lior Haiat. Is there an issue with the Seiden Law article that needs to be improved? MaskedSinger (talk) 22:24, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
Hi. Not sure about it's notability. While well-written and well-referenced, several of what might be the best references are behind paywalls, so I can't see them. The sheer amount of refs made it difficult to slog through all of them, and the several I was able to open and check out did not seem to be that in-depth about the firm. Sorry. But nice job on the Haiat article. Onel5969 22:56, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
No problem. Thank you! MaskedSinger (talk) 05:27, 17 November 2024 (UTC)

Barn owls

I haven't gone into all the details of the recent move, it looks rather confusing, but I'm fairly sure that barn owls in Britain are going to be Tyto alba so that's what you should be changing links to. Having Barn owl as a dab page and Barn-owl as a content page is guaranteed to cause confusion and misdirected links. DuncanHill (talk) 01:34, 18 November 2024 (UTC)

Yeah, I don't disagree. After I did a few, I went back over the discussion. It's going to make disambiguating all those pages a bear. Onel5969 01:42, 18 November 2024 (UTC)

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:20, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of All-time FC Cincinnati roster (disambiguation)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on All-time FC Cincinnati roster (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Misplaced Pages page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Misplaced Pages pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 22:24, 22 December 2024 (UTC)

Abandoned Draft: Mark Joseph Stern

On 17 February 2023 Onel5969 moved page Mark Joseph Stern to Draft:Mark Joseph Stern

On 17 August 2023 Justlettersandnumbers deleted page Draft:Mark Joseph Stern. The reason given: draft page was abandoned.

https://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Mark_Joseph_Stern&action=edit&redlink=1

Would it be OK to publish a new version of the page? I do not need to restore the old draft. I am completely rewriting it.--Toploftical (talk) 18:25, 28 December 2024 (UTC)

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner... the holidays and all. You don't have to aske permission to write, or recreate a deleted article. But if an article has been deleted, it usually means there wasn't enough independent, in-depth sourcing to show that the subject meets notability criteria. So if you do re-write it, I would suggest ensuring that it is well-sourced, and those sources are independent and in-depth. Else, you run the risk of having it deleted again. Hope this helps, and Happy New Year. Onel5969 19:20, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
