LimeWire is an open source Gnutella network client. It is written in Java, and hence is platform-independent.
Like BearShare which is developed by FreePeers, Inc., LimeWire is commercial software created by LimeWire LLC. LimeWire and BearShare have been the two leading vendors driving Gnutella protocol development after the GDF was founded by Clip2's Kelly Truelove.
LimeWire is available in two versions: a basic, free version (contains spyware), and an enhanced version sold for a small fee. The LimeWire source code was published under the GPL and is available at LimeWire's development site.
