Beshaba a.k.a. "The Maid of the Misfortune", is a fictional Faerunian Intermediate deity. She is considered the deity of bad luck, fate, capricious activity and accidents.

Overview

Beshaba is a deity is thought to be more revered out of fear, than of reverence or desire of any religious miracles. Her alignment is one of Chaotic Evil This is due to two reasons; mainly, Beshabic dogma and theory states that bad luck befalls everybody, and the only option to be spared from such malignance or unfortunate occurances, is by worshipping her. The second reason, is that she is a Goddess who is renowned by some, for being spiteful and malevolent.

Her clergy is responsible for the spreading of Beshabic doctrine, and spreading talk of her awe-inspiring diadem, and suggestions for offerings, like sacrifice. Clerics must offer an entreaty for their spells, and make sacrifices of alcoholic beverages such as burning brandy and wine. There are two festivals in the calendar of Beshaba followers, namely "Midsummer" and "Shieldmeet". Both are celebrated by indulgence in food and drink, and revelling behaviour.

Beshaba is the sister of Tymora, and both dislike each other. Her symbol is black antlers on a red field. Her weapon is a "barbed" scourge, aptly named "Ill Fortune".

Life

Beshaba came into being as a result of Tyche splitting the Cataclysm of Dawn, which also triggered the waning of Agathos Daimon. Tyche was infected with a taint of Moander Darkbringer, and she has to be split into two parts, the enemies Tymora and Beshaba.

Beshaba is considered to be attractive to many male deities, and some have testified that they have been devoured with her lustful passions. She has rejected advances from Talos, and other hopefuls.

Beshaba's aim in life, is to dessicate and disintegrate her antithesis, "Lady Luck". She also delights in cursing others, such as causing seafarers to lose their navigational instincts, or causing travelers to get lost. She has no allies.

The aforementioned Agathos Daimon has an important role in Beshaba's life. Daimon was in love with Tyche, who was involved in a menage a trois with the Lathander Morninglord. Daimon, though he is in dread of Beshaba, has roused himself to seek reunification of both Beshaba and Tymora.
