Windows Blackcomb is the code name for an upcoming version of Microsoft Windows, announced in February 2000. It is due sometime between 2010 - 2012, following the predicted release of Windows Longhorn in 2006. It will have both a version for the client, or average user, and servers.
At the time of Windows XP (NT 5.1)'s official release, Blackcomb was to be its successor. However, its introduction was pushed back several years after Longhorn was announced as an intermediary.
Blackcomb has been slated to include any new features proposed by Microsoft (such as WinFS) whose development will have not reached a stable phase by the time of Longhorn's release.
Blackcomb's true product name is still unclear.
