Jeff Hanneman, born August 19, 1964 in Oakland USA, is best known as a guitarist of the thrash metal band Slayer. Jeff Hanneman wrote probably the most well-known thrash song ever: Angel of Death.
Hanneman has long had an interest in Nazi Germany and Nazi war medals. Many people have unfortunately taken this to be evidence that Hanneman and the rest of Slayer are Nazis. The song, Angel of Death is based on Josef Mengele, the Nazi doctor who committed horrifying and often pointless experiments on prisoners of the concentration camps, but like fellow guitarist Kerry King, Hanneman dismisses people who refer to him as a Nazi. His grandfather is actually from Germany, and although his grandmother prevented German from being spoken in the household, Jeff's father still speaks with a slight German accent.
Along with Tom Araya's brother, Jeff's brother John started a thrash band called "Bloodcum" that did not get anywhere. Like all of the members of Slayer, Hanneman is known to be very laid back and easy going.
