Sankhuwa Khola Hydropower Project

The Sankhuwa Khola Hydropower Project is a 41.06 MW run-of-river hydroelectric project under construction in the Sankhuwasabha and Bhopur districts of Nepal. It is being developed by Guras Hydro Pvt. Ltd., a private limited company established in 2020.

Project Details

  • Location: Silichong Rural Municipality (Ward No- I), Sankhuwasabha District and Salpachilichho Rural Municipality (Ward No- 1), Bhojpur District
  • River Sankhuwa Khola, a tributary of the Arun River
  • Catchment Area: 334.808 sq- km
  • Design Discharge: 15250 cubic meters per second
  • Gross Head: 315.92 meters
  • Installed Capacity: 4106 MW
  • Annual Energy Generation: 244.745 GWh
  • Dry Season Energy: 79B44 GWh (32.42%)
  • Wet Season Energy: 165 a (679%)
  • Headworks: 42-meter-long boulder-filled concrete weir, intake, gravel trap, and settling basins
  • Waterway: 5,710-meter headrace tunnel, surge shaft, 725-meter penstock
  • Powerhouse: Open-type powerhouse with Francis vertical turbine units
  • Tailrace: 73-meter-long box culvert discharging into the Arun River
  • Transmission Line: 4 km, 132 kV single circuit line to Sitalpati 220 kV substation
