Indus defining much of the ecosystem of the Indian subcontinent is a dubious claim at best

Indus is a river that runs on the periphery of the continent, I don't see how it can be said that the river defines the ecosystem on the subcontinent, instead representing a small portion of the varied ecosystems present across it Infernomoonsault (talk) 21:24, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

Seems sensible. Changed the caption to "The Indus is a major river of the north-west of the Indian subcontinent" - bland, but there we are. Johnbod (talk) 23:43, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
@Johnbod: How about keeping the original caption and adding northwestern in between, something like - "The Indus defines much of the ecosystem of the north-western part of the Indian subcontinent." ? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:59, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
I don't know if even that is true. Is it? Johnbod (talk) 13:39, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
Btw, the caption to the same photo at Indus River is "Confluence of Indus and Zanskar rivers. The Indus is at the left of the picture, flowing left-to-right; the Zanskar, carrying more water, comes in from the top of the picture". So the Zanskar is actually the main river shown. Johnbod (talk) 13:42, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
@Johnbod: What if we write exactly what's written in the image description. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:51, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
We could do - are we sure Ladakh is part of the subcontinent, rather than the Tibetan Plateau? Johnbod (talk) 19:01, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

my edit was removed

my edit was correct, it did not contain parts of ladakh and baluchistan (insular india)

also empires like muarya and delhi sultanate and mughals called their empires as ' empire of jambudvipa' and 'empire of hind and sindh' and 'empire of hindustan' which all mean india or indian subcontinet so indai did exist as a political entity . greeks called mauray empire as ' indika' WhatAGreatWikiTuber (talk) 14:04, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

Sources needed for BIOT

To say the British Indian Ocean Territory is part of the Indian subcontinent seems like a bit of a stretch. Please provide WP:Sources for it. Nolicamaca (talk) 20:09, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
