Definition and Features

What is the purpose of social media? The article doesn't explicitly ask and answer this question. By focusing on the user's experience, however, the article implies that the purpose of social media is the sharing of user-supplied content. This is not inaccurate. But there's another purpose which the article downplays: social media was created and exists for the purpose of generating profit for social media companies. Shouldn't the article prominently include this as part of its definition of social media? Focusing not just on the user's experience but also on the fundamental purpose of the technology as a way of making money for the social media company could allow readers of the article to better understand the tension inherent in this technology. Thoughts?

@D.Holt I think that you have raised an excellent point. Social media are far more than interactive technologies. Yes, these technologies are used for creating, sharing and aggregating user generated content. Perhaps when social media started off, this was their purpose. But social media has other purposes. Social media is far more than sharing. Its new purposes are for profit or surveillance as suggested by Nick Srnicek in the book Platform Capitalism or Shoshana Zuboff in the book The Age of Surveillance Capitalism. At the very least this page should have a link to other relevant wikipedia pages such as the Platform economy Derek J Moore (talk) 10:07, 2 April 2024 (UTC)

Here's what I am proposing to do for the social media is a great way to learn about your community and the world around you section:

About 60 years over with a disability

Do people not I shouldn't say people that landlords or office managers can just move into our town in Carson City and all they freaking care about how much money they're making I have told them million times try to tell them about my disability and they shut me down these people are rotten people they would rather kick a lady out 60 years old with a very disability that has to have coming up dialysis. they've tried to bribe me they've tried to say I've never lived here that was gone between mines and these people don't get it at all oh my God that makes me sick so I'm so glad that in the third month of 2024 landlords owners cannot kick a senior citizen or a major disability they pass this law they've got so much money that they think they can buy everybody I am a person that's living in this apartment is so I love it here but I am not going to let these people take us down we fought hard to get here and I'll fight even more they think that they can just walk into your place and no notice they can just back money can cause stupid I've tried to warn them I've tried to talk to him about it and then all I get is you know what I'm disability we're sorry you're sick but yeah one of the owners that right here on my porch we've got somebody waiting for this place too bad because this place has been up the code I've already turned them into the correct. Well guess what you guys are not going to move in here he tried to brag me with 500 walking dollars they have met so many times but now they're in a pickle because they they swear I was not on the lease or anything okay I lived at the other apartment for two and a half years then I moved over here or I'm not now trying to say that I haven't lived here for 3 months none of my nieces matter guess what and now registered with the courts with advocates because of this law everybody that's going to read this look it up n e b okay . Go to rights for senior citizens with disability they can't kick you out they can't even if you can't pay rent or even they can't kick you out anyway over 60 with a severe disability and that's me and I'm so happy this is coming to affect and The advocates right yes she knows the new law too but you're toots. I'm severely sick I want to try to tell him that all my documents I've been here for almost 2 years and that's trying to say that my nieces that I have were no good okay they think I'm stupid but you know what I'm going to call the news I've got to be letterhead I'm calling now that a journal I mean I'm going to do whatever I can to get this out there because they have got so much money they don't care about rules they think they can whatever they can't break Israel. and I'm going to be the speaker the sound the person that will make this really difficult for these rich people to come in here and they don't care there's so much hair that has to be brought up to code you can stay in the apartment but we've already got it right you try to talk to him they tried to talk to you with themselves and nobody around you know I want to be somewhere I don't have to worry about that that I am 60 over 60 and I have a major disability and I want to be somewhere relaxing call at my home there's so many things in this place it has to be brought up to code and the next person I haven't complained because I'm just perfectly they keep pushing buttons and they're pushing the wrong one because this b**** is mad and I'm speaking of all disability 60 and over even under 60 if they have a good reason for their disability that one the judge will be in charge of that. The advocates I have when I want to go tell him about this new law that oh my God now he's got so excited excited me and as soon as they the thing is difficult Faith made up so much s*** and they think they can take me in a wild ride now it ain't happening and I stand for all the people out there .I've already called the state bored as what needs to be up to code this place is there such Foley if you can come in here and rule our town maybe they have different departments but you cannot mess with the law and the law and the third month 2024 was passed the funny thing about it here that they came strolling through here when my roommate left you don't get to walk through and said these people are absolutely idiots they can't fight with disability they can't fight with a award letter from disability they can't change the Nevada State statue of limitations my advocates working for me and together and he is so excited about getting in front of the judge me too me too made assholes are not going to do this. Now I'm going to put up a fight I'm going to get a hold of the news yeah they'll want to hear about this because you no more money in the world is going to keep from the law Nevada. this is how crappy and boys and these people are see they screwed themselves when they started messing with me and I'm not buying every damn thing I can and so far I found the most that we can stand the ground on the three cases that already come forward every one of those people they won their case to what the judge evaluates and advocates say they're getting really mad but now they can't come in at all one they walked in one day I live by myself so I'm walking around like and then she pounds on the door and then she comes in and I said who's here I said I'm not having clothes on what the hell are you doing I can come in you know no you can't give him funny I hope they serve me with the five day and seems possible but to see the thing is they started off with me not even existing here that I haven't lived here the total time okay I have two leases okay and wow and I have everything I knew I've got receipts for rent I have never ever missed not even gone over matter of fact I paid my rent was always early by a few days and that's just how it works for me and they don't even care about that they don't even care that you paid right on time or early I'll say care about it they've got studio apartments that just built and they're the size of a and your dining room your sink and stuff is the bathroom sink I need you for the washer in there that dries and washes but their piece of s**** you know you got three guys moving into a small place combine it. Okay I'm going to jump on into this when you guys are going to love this one they are absolutely not getting by me for nothing and it's just really really scary that these people are allowing for people to live in one of those little cracker boxes so you can afford to live in them I pay $85 a month for I've lived here over 2 years and have a receipt for every single month I've got documents for my disability showing that I lived here cuz you have to give him at leasright now and that's the problem yeahave a roommate for a year and he got sick with a 2600:1010:B326:9959:0:E:5010:8601 (talk) 09:42, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
