Percussionist Michael J. Hinton attended The Juilliard School, receiving a Masters Degree in Musical Performance. Mr. Hinton is notable for having decades of experience as a performer, working on many popular Broadway productions, including “Les Miserables," “West Side Story,” and “Miss Saigon.” Mr. Hinton toured extensively with Liza Minnelli. He has also performed with The Grateful Dead on numerous occasions and is considered a Grateful Dead Family Member.

Along with Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart Hinton is credited, co-wrote and performed part of the soundtrack for the film Apocolypse Now.

Now, retired from performing, he is a percussion and piano teacher and manages the website https://musicschoolnj.com/.

Currently working on his memoir, he is featured along with his wife Mineko Yajima in a video titled, Music, Minkeo, and Me, an extensive 2-hour biographical documentary video about Hinton's career.
