Plot Holes

Removed plot holes because they are uncited and false. Constantino said he wanted them UNhandcuffed, and taken to the warehouse. It even said so in the closed captioning. Also since when is a product placement a plot hole? Totally irrelevent and an attack on the episode.

Maggie's Last Name?

Is there any source that indicates Maggie's last name? She appears to be simply credited as Maggie but in Semper Fidelis, she introduces herself as Mullin (or Mullen, the spelling is questionable). In the event she may be listed on Jericho character list, including her last name (since it was revealed in the episode) would be appropriate. The closed captions could be in error. I hear no "s" at the end but rather something like Mullen. Nevertheless, I'm still searching for a proper source.--Kamikaze 17:49, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Mullen the traitor

Being that Jake and Robert aren't stupid they knew she couldn't be trusted. Apparently they aren't done using her.

Does Jake not find it HIGHLY suspicious that she was put in the jail cell and immediately began talking about "someone on the outside"? If he was suspicious then he is definitely one cool customer to not show any sign of it.--Jwsmiths 00:57, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

The War with New Bern

I think some consideration needs to be addressed as to why Constantino believes so strongly that Jericho is responsible for the attack on New Bern by Ravenwood. 74.69.159.42 22:41, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

My guess is that Ravenwood probably told everyone about Jericho to breed mistrust among neighbors. Obviously this cannot be substantiated at this point.--72.195.180.218 00:40, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Or, as happens often in such situations, he started drumming it up to justify his coming actions born of desperation and, in the process, started believing his own propaganda. Over the centuries, many leaders have used scapegoats as a method of rallying people together to work towards a common goal. New Bern has been hit hard by Ravenwood and paranoid and fearful as a result, is half-starved, and desperate. These are the ingredients for complete chaos and social breakdown. To combat this, there are a handful of effective methods that have been used in similar situations in the past, all involving strong leadership- rally around a common cause, rally around a common hope, rally around a common faith or ideology, rally around a quest or crusade, or, as appears to be the case here, rally around the hatred of a common enemy.

Blaming Jericho for the problems they face is a phenomenon we see today in many countries- they see the West as being luckier than themselves, and this breeds jealousy, which breeds hatred, and this is then used by dictators and zealots to fuel them to work together to destroy that perceived enemy. The truth of the matter- that most of their problems are created by the very same dictators that they rally behind, or by oppressive social or environmental factors that have nothing to do with the west- is lost in the furor of hatred of the scapegoated enemy. Add in a dash of real friction between the two (the West having been active in the shaping of the Middle East over the past century for the real world, or the attempt on the mortar factory in the series) and you have that little spark of legitimacy that gives credence to the propaganda of the dictator and sweeps away all doubt.

Constantino seems to have started out using these rumours as a rallying cry to get his people to band together, and then, somewhere along the way, started believing it himself. This is similar to what happened with the National Socialists in Germany in the 1930's, and no doubt similar psychological factors played into this as well. Prior to the attack on New Bern by Ravenwood, Constantino was just the sheriff, and the mayor was in charge. After the attack, the mayor stepped down and Constantino added his position to his own. In germany, the crippling depression that followed the loss in WWI led to the view of the Weimar Republic as weak and innefectual, and this view helped lead to the rise of the National Socialists and the events that precipitated WWII. It looks to me like the writers for the show have taken their cues from a wide variety of real-world incidents and psychologies to craft the situations found in the series, so it is little surprise that this would follow suit.--Breandán 05:34, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, Kamikaze, so why are you posting off-topic discussion? The original comment is perfectly legitimate anyway, s/he is stating an idea for the article. My reply to that would be: Without a source we don't know why Constantino holds a grudge. Matthew 12:58, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
