The Fengshan Tropical Horticulture Experimental Branch of the Agricultural Experiment Station of the Ministry of Agriculture(hereinafter referred to as the Fengshan Branch of the Agricultural Experiment Station ) is an experimental unit under the Agricultural Experiment Station of the Ministry of Agriculture . Its predecessor was the Fengshan Tropical Horticulture Experimental Branch of the Agricultural Experiment Station of the Governor-General's Office of Taiwanestablished in 1939. Located in the northeast of Fengshan District , Kaohsiung City , it belongs to the tropical climate zone, with a land area of ​​55.88 hectares. Its main tasks include: breeding, cultivation, pest control, and processing experiments of tropical fruit trees and vegetables.

history

Following the establishment of the Agricultural Experiment Station of the Governor-General's Office of Taiwan in April 1939, the Fengshan Tropical Horticulture Experiment Station was established as its branch in Niaosong, Niaosong Village, Fengshan County , Kaohsiung Prefecture . The land was donated by the Taiwan Contract Pineapple Company  , covering an area of ​​about 50 hectares. The Fengshan Tropical Horticulture Experiment Station is engaged in research and investigation related to the cultivation and variety improvement of tropical horticultural crops, as well as processing experiments of tropical products  . Its main businesses include pineapple variety improvement, pineapple processing, processing of fruits and vegetables such as papaya and tomatoes, and cultivation experiments of crops such as pumpkin, tomato, watermelon, cabbage, and eggplant  .

After the war, the Fengshan Tropical Horticulture Experimental Branch was taken over by the Taiwan Provincial Government in October 1945 and became part of the Taiwan Provincial Agricultural Experimental Institute. It also merged with the Western Specialty Plant Seedling Cultivation Institute, which was established on Fengshan Street in 1944. In August 1949, the Fengshan Tropical Horticulture Experimental Branch was renamed the Branch .
