ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Bell (Belinda)

Hi Pburka

I've just seen that you removed the Slavery template from the article on Bell. I'd be grateful if you could explain to me why you think it's inappropriate for this article.

Two reasons. First, the template appeared to have been copied into the page, possibly using the subst keyword. Most templates shouldn't be copied. Second, that template is meant for more general topics related to slavery. It's not included in most articles about individuals who were enslaved. pburka (talk) 17:02, 16 December 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for responding. My apologies for adding the template incorrectly. It is used on the page on the Joseph Knight case, which also relates to slavery case law in Scotland so I thought it was appropriate.

It's always a judgment call. I would guess that someone thought it was appropriate on that page because of the significant emphasis on Knight v. Wedderburn, which appears to have been an influential case regarding slavery. Feel free to put it back if you think it makes sense, but please don't subst it. pburka (talk) 16:09, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

January 25: Misplaced Pages Day
You are invited to Misplaced Pages Day 2025, hosted by Wikimedia NYC at the Brooklyn Public Library's central branch. The special focus this year will be the launch of our "400 Neighborhoods" campaign for the city's 400th anniversary and WikiProject New York City/400 Task Force. We'll also have a lightning talks session and you're invited to sign up for one, though space is somewhat limited. Saturday, January 25, 2025 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm Brooklyn Central Library, Grand Army Plaza Afterparty: 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm (off-site venue, TBA)
