IPA-xx templates

Replace with {{IPA|...}} and delete. Like with the lang-xx templates, the new syntax frees us of having to create these templates for every language. Previous batch. ({{IPA-all}}, {{IPA-le}}, {{IPA-va}}, and redirects require more than just replacing - with |.) Nardog (talk) 23:59, 27 December 2024 (UTC)

Replace and delete. This is an outdated system which requires an endless cycle of creating, updating and fixing potentially thousands of language templates, while {{IPA}} requires a single template and module to be updated. Gonnym (talk) 11:22, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
  • Replace and delete per nomination. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 00:52, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
  • Please please please don't delete. This will make entire article histories of multiple articles unreadable. For the "lang-??" templates this was not quite as bad, because those were typically used only once or twice per article somewhere in the lead sentence glosses, but the IPA-?? templates are often used multiple times throughout an article and their contents can be crucial for understanding article text. Fut.Perf. 09:31, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
@Future Perfect at Sunrise: We can prevent new uses without affecting old revisions with {{REVISIONTIMESTAMP}} (example). For the record, you're not opposed to the replacement, right? Nardog (talk) 09:53, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
I'm not opposed to the replacement. I'm afraid I'm not sure I understand the REVISIONTIMESTAMP trick. Are you saying that would be an alternative to deletion? i.e. we would keep the old templates around and make them display as they used to whenever they are being called as part of an older revision view, but show a warning when used on a newer or current version? That sounds like a decent solution, if it's feasible. Fut.Perf. 16:37, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
Exactly, and it is feasible with code like the link above. Nardog (talk) 03:09, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
I disagree that this is actually an issue. If you want to see the text in the IPA template, you can look at a current version. Gonnym (talk) 13:27, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
Which doesn't of course help me when what I want to read is a past version and what was the text in the template back then. Fut.Perf. 16:37, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
The small inconvenience you might have is worth it (I don't believe almost any user actually reads past version articles). If you want to see what the value of the IPA template was, you can always copy the content and view it with the modern template. Also, even if the template stays and isn't replaced, you aren't really viewing the past version and what was the text in the template back then as any change to the template and module in its backend today will cause previous versions of the page to show up with the current module. In short, Misplaced Pages does not take a screenshot of how a page was at the time. Gonnym (talk) 10:56, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

Template:PD-Coa-Mexico

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more templates or modules. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the template's talk page or in a deletion review).

The result of the discussion was keep. The templates were updated and the nomination withdrawn by original nominator. (non-admin closure) Rjj (talk) 04:07, 31 December 2024 (UTC)

No transclusions. This template does not appear to be usable on the English Misplaced Pages, since all files to which it applies, such as File:Flag of Mexico.svg, have been moved to Commons (or could be moved to Commons), where the template is used in over 1,900 pages. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:41, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

I see that there was a 2017 TFD that was withdrawn for {{PD-Coa-Mexico}} and similar unused PD File templates, but the templates' documentation was not updated to match the justifications. If this template is kept, I recommend that this and similar templates be documented to explain why they are here and how they should (and should not) be used. I have provided example bare-bones documentation at {{PD-Coa-Finland}}, which was involved in the previous TFD. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:44, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
  • Keep {{PD-Slovenia}}. Slovenia has a shorter term for photographs, so it is possible for there to be an expired photograph of a still-copyrighted architectural work (which is usable on English Misplaced Pages as {{PD-USonly}}). This was in use briefly for an old photo of a Slovene chapel. It was eventually determined that the chapel was also architecturally acceptable for Commons, but I could foresee a similar case occurring again where an old photograph of a Slovene building could not be uploaded to Commons. It also has potential application for old free photos of non-free content (e.g., statues, murals) used under the NFCC. IronGargoyle (talk) 22:03, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

Template:Taxon details

Unused. I don't see an encyclopedic purpose for this; it is apparently designed to reproduce some information from the WoRMS database. Some of the information is completely irrelevant to Misplaced Pages ("Taxonomic edit history" is the history of edits to the WoRMS record), and information that is potentially relevant to Misplaced Pages (e.g. "Environment") is better presented as prose here than in a table. Plantdrew (talk) 02:27, 27 December 2024 (UTC)

Template:Crystal Skate of Romania

Non-notable figure skating competition. All individual events have been redirected to the parent article, rendering this table unnecessary. Bgsu98 (Talk) 00:11, 27 December 2024 (UTC)

Template:Finance ministers of Russia

All three templates should be merged on the basis of Template:Finance ministers of Russia. It should be a single template of RSFSR – Soviet Union – Russian Federation finance ministers. It will ease navigation too. I hope that someone will do that, because I don't know how to merge templates. MarcusTraianus (talk) 09:39, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
