An Orange from Jaffa is a 2024 short film written and directed by Mohammed Almughanni. The Polish, French and Palestinian co-production film follows Mohammed, a young Palestinian, who is desperately looking for a taxi to take him through an Israeli checkpoint.

An Orange from Jaffa, winner of Grand Prix at the 46th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, was shortlisted for the Best Live Action Short Film at the 97th Academy Awards in December 2024.

Synopsis

Mohammed, a young Palestinian, sets out on a stressful journey to cross an Israeli checkpoint using a temporary Polish identity card. Despite being refused by other drivers, he finally gets a ride from Farouk, a kind-hearted taxi driver. However, they face significant trouble when the checkpoint authorities discover Mohammed’s earlier failed attempt to cross. The film vividly portrays the harsh reality of living under occupation and the personal toll it takes.
