Friedberg is an unincorporated community in Davidson County, North Carolina, United States. Located on both sides of the county line, Friedberg straddles Friedberg Church Road. Neighboring communities and municipalities include Arcadia and Winston-Salem.

History

The first settlers in what would become Friedberg were Adam and Maria Spach, who arrived in 1754. While they waited for enough neighbors to warrant the founding of a local church, the Spachs traveled by foot 14 miles to nearby Bethabara Church located in Bethabara (now encircled by Winston-Salem). 19 years later, in 1773, Friedberg Church was built in present-day Davidson County.

From its start stability has marked Friedberg. A second church was built in 1788 and a third church built in 1827. This one served thru renovations until it was demolished in 1976 for the congregation's current sanctuary, a 600-seat structure dedicated in 1980.

Friedberg was granted a U.S. Post Office in 1860; its Postmaster was Lewis Rights. It has been in continuous operation ever since.

Education

Friedberg is the location of Friedberg Elementary School part of the Davidson County School System. The school feeds into North Davidson Middle and North Davidson High—both in nearby Welcome.

Fire Department

Friedberg is served by the A-RC-H (Arcadia-Reedy Creek-Hampton) Volunteer Fire Department as well as the Griffith Volunteer Fire Department which is located on Peters Creek Pkwy in Forsyth County.

Development

Friedberg is mostly a residential community with a few commercial establishments and a small number of farms. There is a mixture of businesses including: retail chains and restaurants. The area is, however, beginning to grow as Winston-Salem expands.

Much of the community's vacant land is being excavated for housing development, as many attempt to escape higher property taxes in nearby Winston-Salem.
