Captain Jack Sparrow is a main character in the film Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), played by Johnny Depp. Depp claimed Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards as an inspiration for his perfomance, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor.
Jack Sparrow is a pirate. He used to command the Black Pearl, searching for a legendary cache of Aztec gold—but his crew mutinied and marooned him on an island, alongside a pistol with a single shot (in order to kill himself instead of letting starvation kill him). However he escaped, and went looking for revenge against the leader of the mutiny: First Mate (now Captain) Barbossa. He kept the pistol and shot for the purpose of shooting Barbossa with them.
