Anne Heche (born May 25, 1969) is an American actress.
Heche was a noted thespian even at her high school, Francis Parker, and the soap opera As the World Turns offered her a contract in 1985, when she was only 16. However, both she and her parents felt it best that she finish high school first.
Immediately after her high school graduation, she accepted another soap offer and left for New York City. Heche first became famous by playing the dual roles of Victoria "Vicky" Hudson and Marley Love Hudson on the American soap opera Another World from 1987 to 1991, for which she won a Daytime Emmy Award. She went on to date Steve Martin for two years (she was the basis for the Heather Graham character in Bowfinger). In the second half of the 1990's she starred in a number of high-profile films (including a stint as Harrison Ford's leading lady) but all the films failed at the box office, which limited her career opportunities.
However, most know her for having a lesbian relationship with comedienne Ellen DeGeneres. She conducted many bizarre television interviews and claimed in her autobiography, Call Me Crazy, that she was mentally ill for the first 31 years of her life after being sexually abused by her father (who died of A.I.D.S. in 1983). She also claims to have an alter ego that was the daughter of God and half-sibling of Jesus named "Celestia" who has contacts with extraterrestrial life forms. Heche is married to the cameraman Coley Laffoon, whom she met while he was filming a comedy special for DeGeneres. On March 2, 2002 Heche gave birth to a son, Homer Heche Laffoon. Her mother, Nancy, is a devoted Christian and psychotherapist, who does not believe that her late husband sexually abused Anne. Nancy tours the nation speaking with ex-gay groups; the two women are reportedly not close. In 1998 Heche's sister Susan Bergman wrote a book about the family and their relationship with their father.
In 2004 she was nominated for a Tony Award for her role in a revival of Twentieth Century; she also returned to regular television acting on the WB drama Everwood, in the contract role of Amanda Hayes.
As of May 2005 Heche's acclaimed work on Another World is being repeated on the cable channel Soapnet, Monday-Friday.
