Hiroshima (広島) is a city in Japan that was heavily damaged by the atomic bomb Little Boy (the second to be detonated, and the first ever used in military action) in the last week of World War II.

Hiroshima was founded in 1589, on the coast of the Seto inland sea, and became a major urban center during the Meiji period.

Area: 741.63 km; population (October 2000): 1,126,282.
